Polish Summer Party 1996 A glimpse In an attempt to rival the forthcoming Intel Outside event, Flying Cows Inc, the funny Polish group of much talent and innovation, wanted to try their hand at organising, what was expected as a good introductory scene party for the summer season. As it is usual with most Polish events of a smaller calibre, the PSP was not advertised outside the Pole-borders, so the expectance of foreign visitors was literally non existent. The two day party (22 to 23 June) was coloured with the usual heavy boozing sessions that forced most Poznan inhabitants to look out of their windows, and think twice before joining the fun, especially after an utterly noisy heavy metal concert, held at 23:00! Organiser Zibi told ROM that the involved FCI members were quite disappointed that only 200 Amiga and PC sceners turned out; from the feedback they had managed to gather before the event could be finalised and announced, they had calculated a minimum audience of 500. Still, most known Polish personalities, did not miss to attend. As a result of such a poor attendance, most of the promised features and attractions were immediately put on ice, as from day one. One particular unkept promise was the same competition rewards; The first prize in the demo contest, turned, from a shining A4000 into an MTec card! Venture received an old Aminet 10 CD for their 64K of bytes, whilst graphician Yoga... an original game! Useless to say, that all second and third placers found themselves with an empty hand! ROM suspects that a big part of the Polish scene - or at least, the present ones - wanted to take their revenge on known VIS and groups, by not voting for their good releases in the competitions. Anadune and Lazur found themselves second, in two contests that they should have won with little effort. Musician Dreamer must have been quite disappointed when his competing module was not even ranked amongst the top three. This is a quite clear sign, that today's party audiences have found their own means and ways how to combat the always-growing fanfare of elitism. If it's unjust or not, in respect to the participants has to be left uncommented. As some bearing Poles told ROM, "the organizers are not the ones to blame for the little attendance. After all, we could still meet with fellow sceners, talk with our contacts and drink a lot" And isn't all this what a scene party is all about?
