    Mr.Hyde Of Andromeda interviewed

                 By Zerox/Gods

 ZX = *  MH = *

I started this interview with the winner of the Party 4 demo competition by
actually thanking him for giving the DISC Team this exclusive interview, and
afterwards I asked him to introduce himself, and that was what he did...

I am a student of mathematics, and about 19 years old. I once lived in Italy
but I can't remember much of it. My scene-'career' is like this:
Archmage and I founded the marvellous crew 'Mind Warriors' (kewl...), after
'releasing' one production with a flicking scroller and ripped music, we
joined up with Ralph and Bingo under the same group name. So we released
more demos with rotating skulls, rasterbars, techtech-logos and bobs. At
the IT/CRB party (the one that was busted), we met Hydra-Lord
Interface-Dr.Jekyll of ANDROMEDA. They were very serious, and they spoke
frequently about something they called 'design'. After a while we joined
up with them under the name 'Phantasm' - but due to some other group
calling themselves the same, we changed back to Andromeda. Here ends the
story of me coding what ever fell into my mind, and setting the colours
myself. Andromeda products I was involved in: Decaying Paradise - DOS -
 Mirror - Surrealism - Nexus 7...

As Andromeda really started up as a kind of local crew in the south of Norway
before it expanded to different parts of Norway, I asked if Mr.Hyde could
tell us a few words about his local sourrounding? An area that seems to give
birth to many talents of the Amiga scene...

We live in (or close to) Kristiansand. The town sucks. The people sucks.
Therefore, we sit inside our houses in front of computers. We are saved from
 the terror.

The DISC readers all know that Andromeda has been releasing good productions
for a while now, but what does Mr.Hyde consider as the definate breaktrough
 for Andromeda?

The year we released D.O.S. & Multica.

I've noticed that Mr.Hyde has been choosing nearly the same people within
Andromeda to coopearte with when making productions. Is this just a
conincident or are there other reasons why he is doing projects with about
the same people? I mean, Dr.Jekyll, Interphace, Archmage and Mr.Hyde are the
main persons behind a few Andromeda productions. And then there is also
 Quest and/or View...

It comes natural when you concider where we live, and who used to cooperate
in the old days - before HeadX++ joined from absence. However, it was planned
that HeadX also should have been in the Nexus 7 project. Due to a heavy load
 of school work, he couldn't.

So what do the following words mean to Mr.Hyde: " The Universe Is Infinite -
And So Is The Realm of Andromeda " ? By the way, it was taken from a famous
demo, he he... one of those Mr.Hyde decribed as the breaktrough for his team.

Yes, I know the words. It is the longest slogan ever. It states that the
universe is infinite. Personally I think that is a very hazardous statement.

I've heard that many of the Andromeda members are not only friends in the
scene, but also in their social life. Is this true?
Yes, about half of my friends are Andromeda members. As an example, this year
Hydra, View, Interphace, Dr.jekyll, Archmage and myself are attending the
 same school.

Think of that all you other groups out there, Andromeda certainly has a real
nice advantage by attending the same school and living nearby eachother.
Anyway, lately it's a fact that Andromeda has become quite inactive really,
even Mr.Hyde told me, so we can't hide that fact. Quite some people in Andro-
meda seem to be a bit tired of the scene. Therefore I simply had to ask the
question: "Why do you think Andromeda has become a bit inactive and just
releases bigger productions at some parties?"

Releasing demos has become a very hard task. That is why we don't release as
much as before. Many of our members have some schoolwork to do as well.

As Mr.Hyde has been around for some years, we asked him a question that is
far from original:" What changes have you noticed concerning the scene of
yesterday and the one of today?"

As everyone has noticed, there are fewer releases than before between parties
This is of course due to the fact that it takes more work to make something
that is worth watching now, than it did a couple of years ago. If you are not
making Melon productions, then you will not release your demo if it can't
compete in any competition. Another thing about the scene that has changed,
is people's attitude. There seems to be no hatred whatsoever between groups
today. (At least not compared to how it used to be!)

Yes, Mr.Hyde is right about that. There are less hatred between groups today.
One of the reasons can be that the scenemembers have become older now, and
besides, we don't attack groups anylonger, just people, he he...

It would be interesting to know about the production plans of Andromeda, so I
asked Mr.Hyde about that. I had heard something about an AGA trackmo coded by
Jaz and graphics by Decker... Following is what Mr.Hyde answered:

For the moment we have no projects under development. Jaz is no longer a
member so there will be no AGA demo from him.

As Hydra didn't want to be organiser anylonger and stopped making Andromeda's
internal letter, I've heard that much of the communiction between the members
are by using internet. So what I wanted to know was, how the present organis-
ing in Andromeda is, and if Archmage still is the organiser?

The present organizing is quite good, as always. The title 'organizer of
 Andromeda' still belongs to Archmage.

The year is 1995, and as stated before, Mr.Hyde has been a scener for very
long. So how can he explain the fact that he has no harddisk???

I had in fact one, but it broke down after 8-9 months of annoying R/W-pro-
blems. Anyway I am going to buy one, so no need for you out there feeling
sorry for me and sending money and/or flowers.

I guess of you out there want to join a very good group, and Andromeda is
definately that. Therefore I asked the following question: "What does a
scener have to do to be allowed to join Andromeda, in addition to being
 Norwegian?"

Being good at either coding/music/graphics, and having the right attitude.

At each and every party the Andromeda members go and spread their productions
after the competitions to everybody, so I guess all their party productions
get very well spread. But how is the condition of the Andromeda traders?

 Fine. They trade.

After that short answer, I asked another question (suprise!), but I was
hoping to get a bigger answer as well, here's my question anyway:
"Andromeda is known for its exellent designs. So when you start making
a production, do you start by making the design first, and then make rou-
 tines that fit afterwards, or???

We usually start by coding some routines. While this is done, we develope a
sort of a concept. This was the case of Nexus 7. When we know what we have,
and what we are going to have on the demo, we start making a designchart with
links. When we made Nexus 7, the music was made with the design so that
Dr.Jekyll and I had a design to follow.

What is Mr.Hyde's motivation to continue coding and being a part of the
 scene?

I want to realize my ideas concerning coding. It is great to watch a program
run after having thought about it for a long time.

Ok, I bet you want to know more about Nexus 7 now (in addition to the text
about its making at the FOCUS ON PARTY 4 corner), so here's what I said to
Mr.Hyde: "It's time to ask you some questions in connection with your last
great production. I'm of course talking about the latest success release, the
winner of the party 4 - Nexus 7. So I'll begin with asking you a simple
question: Was Nexus 7 just another demonstration of superiority? At the
competition in Herning it beat the demo that came second with over twize as
 many votes...". And Mr.Hyde answered:

I know the scores, and I find it peculiar. When Dr.Jekyll and I saw the demo
on the bigscreen, we where sure to be among the 4-5 best. We did not expect
to win. If any conclusion should be drawn from this, it must be that people
still like good design and realtime effects. It seemed like none of the demos
with large animations managed to fool the audience.

Nexus 7 really got some fantastic effects, I counted about 12 routines, and
in addition to that there are those great links between the different parts,
appr.3 of those + the picture by Archmage. So this production was another
well-designed release for Andromeda. What is Mr.Hyde's favourite routine
from Nexus 7? And what is the most stunning effect after his opinion? He told
me earlier that he got about 3 different versions of the Natural Motion,
which he worked with about a year... This is what he had to say:

You are right - the Nat.motionpart was a real pain for some time. But I am
afraid I can't point out any effect I like better than the others. What I can
do is to say that perhaps routines like the Landscape and the Gouraud part
are out of date, but they were not when I made them. We agreed that they
wouldn't spoil anything, so we included them in the demo.

I've noticed that the music fits perfectly to the different routines in Nexus
 7. How important would Mr.Hyde say the music is for a production?

Very. Very important. Much so. Indeed.

Now to a question that I thought might be very difficult for Mr.Hyde to
answer as it was quite rude, but I asked the question anyway. And it goes
like this: "Why do you think Nexus 7 won the demo competition at the party
and not one of the other good demos? Can it be because your demo came first
of the good ones, or maybe because of your very good reputation???"
I think we won because we got the best demo as a whole. Nexus 7 was not as
much of a 'rush-work' as some of its competitors. And as for the placement,
it is common knowledge that it is an advantage to be the last demo to be
 shown in a competition.

Ok... What does Mr.Hyde think of the other good demos released at the party
then? I was especially thinking about Psychedelic and Motion...

Psychedelic and Motion are both great demos. I think Motion has the best
concept, but they have fairly few routines. The Doom routine is quite
impressive though. As for Psychedelic, it has absolutely no links between
the numerous parts. This I don't like, but the coders have sure done some
work. They could have excluded some parts. And don't forget Roots by Sanity.
 The perspectiverotator is great.

There is really no doubt about which team is the best in Norway anylonger,
that is, there has actually never been any doubt about that the lastest
years... it's of course Gods...err...I mean Andromeda. A certain world famous
main-editor with the name Lord Helmet thinks however that Spaceballs is
Norway's leading team. As a matter of fact that is one of the reasons why
Lord Helmet wrote that untrue article about Hydra in RAW 6. Another reason is
of course that he wants RAW to become even more interresting to read. I guess
this is the background information for why Andromeda sent some fuckings to
Lord Helmet which they called a pathetic figure and lier. BUT what do
Andromeda have to say about the whole matter?

The scroller is a PUNISHMENT-scroller. This is an important fact. We don't
hate Lord Helmet. We just wanted to see justice done. Our way.

Hydra once said "Good article writers don't need an alternative to reality".
 What's Mr.Hyde's opinion?

I totally agree with my mast.. eh I mean Hydra. He's right as always.

So Hydra is always right, eh? Well, then all the articles in DISC are 100%
true also... as this interview? Err, DISC readers, I'll rather ask Mr.Hyde
another question instead... have you ever wondered what the winners at the
different competitions spent the money on? I do, so I asked this: "What did
you spend the money you received from winning the demo competition at The
Party 4 on? I hope Dr.Jekyll didn't take all the money from you, he he..."

Haven't spend any yet. I will use some of my share to fix my A1200. Under the
development of Nexus 7, I lost all my blue colours as well as my harddrive.

SO I didn't get to know afterall. Ok, here's finally the end part of this
huge interview. Mr.Hyde will just answer the first thing that comes into
his mind when I say a word.

Now my last words: "Thank you very much for answering all these questions. I
appreciate it very much!!! May the God(s) be nice to you! Now you can write
 whatever you want Sverre..."

As always, we had not much time to finish our demo, three things were neglec-
ted/bypassed: Some mmu-code (sorry! -just coldreset and boot without
startup!), the vectorclipper(so?), and the hidden text. The two first I can
not help now, but the hidden text (at least my contribution) is here:

'Mr.Hyde sends greetings to the following persons for various reasons:?:

Hydra: I will send you the half of my share soon.
Onkel: Ninja - the way of the sword.
Dr.Jekyll: Albert Einstein is still waiting.
 Size: ringa paa data!
Archmage: I agree to release Nexus 7 at the Gathering.

I thank everyone who gave me christmas presents / cards.
