Thanx to Turrican for passing this interview sheet to and from Heavyweight. Profile ------- HANDLE: Heavyweight AGE: 21 COMPUTER: A500 with 68030/40, also have CD³² GROUP: Devious Dezigns ROLE: Trader, Pack-Maker HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN ON THE SCENE ? I have been in the scene since Januruay 1990.. I was initialy in the C64 scene until October 1992. I then got my A500, and started trading Amiga Stuff around Feburury 1993.. And haven't stopped since. WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE AN AMIGA ? The reason why I chossen an Amiga, was at the time when I bought it, all my friends all had/gonna get Amiga's. I hated the sight of PC's then (and still do.). The Amiga is the only computer to be using, all the rest is rubbish. Even if ESCOM stuff up the Amiga, I still will still be swapping, until there is no-one else to swap with. WHAT ELSE DO YOU DO ON THE AMIGA OTHER THAN TRADE ? My other scene-activities other than swapping, is leeching from Terra Firma (thanks Psyche). I also make up the World famous (yeah right!) pack called "Bits and Pieces". I have released a stock-inventory system (written with Spirit/DVS), called "Kronical". I am slowly working on the sequel to it, with will be a fully-fledged Relational Database (something like Twist, MS-Access, etc..), the current working name of it is "Simplicity". I am also, when I have time, going to write a Utility Pack menu, and to produce the associating disks, also possibly going to write a Doc disk menu and also produce the associate disks. A new Pack menu is in the pipe-line also, so watch out for that.. The menu will be totally different to that of now. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE TRADING SCENE AT THE MOMENT ? When I started trading, it was easy to get a lot of Australian contacts, and then they were always quite fast in repling. But now-a-days, it is more common for most "swappers" to take up to a month before they reply (If I'm lucky!). Also the number of swappers in Australia is steadly declining. I don't have that many Australian contacts, because of hardly no-one swaps. In the case of the Overseas swappers, There are still a lot of really cool guys swapping, and most of them are quite fast in replying. The quality of the stuff is not that great lately, because there isn't much being released in-between parties, so that slows things up in the non-party times. It is sometimes hard to find legal-only swappers, because most swappers will also want to swap games and shit. Usually, with most of my contacts, I don't swap new stuff (remember, I leech all the new stuff from Terra Firma anyway), we usually swap some old demos, because I like to keep a library of all the demos ever made. I currently have over 2450+ disks of demos (Scene Productions - not PD disks, like Fred Fish shit), and I am on the lookout for always more. WOULD YOU EVER SELL YOUR AMIGA AND BUY A PC ? Currently, I will never sell the Amiga, and will continue with it as long as I can do it. I will be very ashamed if I owned a PC.. Fuck da PC. The reason is that I will stick to the Amiga is because it is a "Godly" computer. WHAT FORMER GROUPS WERE YOU INVOLVED IN BEFORE JOINING DEVIOUS DEZIGNS ? Um, let me think, the first group that I ever joined on the Amiga, was Chrome (Australian), which was the C64 group I was in before. After that, I Addicts (Turbo's old lame crew). That didn't last long. After that I re-joined Chrome. A little bit after that, I started up my own group called "Toons" (remember the lame "Creamation" intro?). After that, I made another group with Darkside/???Movement???, and we decided to call it "Foda" (apparently Portegeese for the word "Fuck"!), and after I got sick of that, and joined a local group called "Kronical" (x-Eternal - remember those legendary days Psyche??), and that naturally progressed into Devious Dezigns.. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE CURRENT STATE OF THE SCENE ? The scene is getting a bit more better these days, because all the coders now know what to do with AGA these days. Granted that it is not as prolific as the 89-92 period, but it is looking better by the day. Some of the current AGA demos are really excellent, and we'll see what the future hold ahead. NAME THE 3 BEST GROUPS CURRENTLY TODAY IN AUSTRALIA. Um, let me see, Is there actually 3 groups in Australia??? Be pushing it, na, Um, I think Cydonia are the most prolific group currently in Australia, and maybe possible be the second best group (of course, can't compete with Devious Dezigns!! - Sorry, had to say that!), Sect is/was also a really promising group, expecially with their Scrapbook project. Also, there are always the swapping-only groups, like APD, Myth, and some others. NAME THE 3 BEST BOARDS. Sorry, I only call one BBS (in being Terra Firma), so I don't bother to call any others. (Also costs too much in Phone Calls). Why would you call somewhere else, if you can have a nice leech at a local BBS and get all the new stuff. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ESCOM BEING THE NEW OWNERS OF THE AMIGA? Um, I think that they are going to be a positive influence onto the future of the Amiga. The only thing that they have to do, is to make sure that there are new stock of A1200's and A4000's into the shops, because they can't afford to miss a second christmas season on the trot. ESCOM also has to make sure that they will bring out something, which is a improvement on the AGA chipset series. This should be in the shops in the new year. WOULD YOU LIKE TO SAY ANYTHING ELSE BEFORE WE END THIS INTERVIEW? Yeah, I would like to thanks my first and best contact, Turrican (Campbell - Yaaaaayyyyy!).. Also I would like to thanks everyone in the scene for making it still active. Also to the dudes at DVS, who eventually release things (Takes time to make it a Classic!).. Also to all of my contacts, who without them, I wouldn't be a swapper (obviously!), and I like to say "Thanks You" to all the 300+ contacts I have had over the years, and also for being a friend whilst swapping stuff. Also, one last thing, if there is anyone who is intrested in swapping old demos/music tapes/video tapes/VBS tapes, etc... feel free to contact me at:- Tony 96 Robinson Road Morley WA 6062 Australia NOTE: Legal only, also I sell VBS dongles, for more info, write to me. Catch ya later.
