A Partnership - Some1&Morrow

This is, more or less, a try to make another interview with a rather new cooperation team, Some1&Morrow of C-Lous and Razor 1911. Be pleased to meet them!

To start with, Morrow is not the same person as Prime, who left the scene about year or so ago.

- Former groups
SOME1: Nation, Scoopex, Circle(!), Hare-Krishna, Illusion, Razor 1911, Ica handlarna (sorry, but I can't remember ALL my former groups).

MORROW: Rebels, Razor 1911... (Quality, not quantity.)

- Famous tunes 1995: Session, Celestial, Revelation 1995, Broder Jakob, Journey in my head, Mindbender 2... and too many chip-tunes.

Both of you have been around on the scene for a while and released quite some stuff, but you have never been so popular and well-known as you are right now. How come?

- We have been quite laid back until now. We made lots of music but not very much was released. We didn't care very much either so it was our fault. In Razor we always got in the shadow of the hyper-mega-ultra-star Lizardpling. We made our music but nothing happened. In the end of 1995 things started to change. You could listen to our tunes here, there and everywhere. People suddenly opened their eyes (ears) for us and here we are, in the middle of the success.

Why do you think people like your music? What's your strength?

- I (Morrow) think that it's our different styles. We have released everything from acid jazz and trance to Orup and trip hop. There is something for everyone! That's our strength... Why we make so different kinds of tunes is probably because we are two (Some1 + Morrow = 2). We continue an old Swedish custom with powerful teams like the never-to-be-forgotten Tip & Mantronix, and we try to be of the same class as they are.

As Some1 prefers to make fast tunes and Morrow mostly like to compose slow tunes, is there any noticeble distinction between styles in your modules?

- First of all, I (Some1) want to make one thing straight, breakbeat sucks! I (Morrow) think you can hear in the tunes that both of us have contributed with parts. Slow parts and fast parts, that's why our music sound so strange. And as you say you can see a tendency that I do most work on our "mag-alike-tunes" and Some1 works with the heavier stuff.

Naturally, there must be problems assigned to cooperating. In what way?

- All our efforts to sit down and compose always end up the same way: Instead of making music we go wild with different sex games all night long. This is a rather big problem because we never get any tunes finished.

Then, what is really good with cooperating when making modules?

- There's nothing good with it. Except that if you don't feel like composing, you can always let your "partner" start, make and/or finish the tune... (Hehe.)

How do you solve the problem with different ideas?

- Eh? We sometimes (read always) have different ideas, but we can't see why you call that a problem. Different ideas only lead to a lot of "different" tunes. Although a module started by your friend is sometimes impossible to continue, all due to lack of "sanity" in the style... (Hi mom! /S1)

How come that you first started to cooperate?

- Why don't you rent (or why not see it on cinema): Ostkaka the movie. (Oscarsbelonad...)

Is it really good that a group has more than one musician, or in your case, one cooperating team, when it comes to group-releases?
- Sometimes, being just the second (or third) best musician in a group can be a dough (You mean that it can be a pile of money? Or the substance you bake bread of? /ToJ). You never get anything released (Now everybody realizes that we are talking about RAZOR 1911...). But in the same time, the reason for not leaving a group (Razor 1911) is FRIENDSHIP! In my case (Some1), it doesn't matter if (you're black or white?...) you can't release so much for your group. The most important thing is that you are good friends and that you can have a nice time even outside the scene... If you are 10 musicians in the same group it will be hard competition and you will probably compose better. But there are drawbacks too. If you want to get known and popular on the scene you have to be really active and release lots of tunes. You have to be connected to your group, release a music disk and make the music for all of its productions. The only way to attain that result is to be the only musician or cooperating team in the group.

Today, many of the very best Amiga musicians stop to compose on the Amiga and continue on the PC. When is it your turn to discover the 32 channels for real?

- What is a PC??? Never heard of it!?

At the moment, it looks like that the "new" Razor 1911 project has become extinct. Why? Is it only Colorbird's and Diesel's fault?

- We don't think it's anybody's fault. We're all growing older and some of us just want to "see the world" (military service...), and some persons just want to... well, do something else... (Analpoker?). But have no fear, because Razor 1911 is NOT(!) dead. As long as we (Some1&Morrow) are still going strong the spirit will never die...

Can we expect to see a music disk from you guys in the near future?

- Yes! We're going to release our not-so-soon-coming-music-disk after Christmas. It will include a lot of 67 channel music (Sega megadrive) and some chip tunes (all under 1.5k).

What are your future plans when it comes to more professional music?

- Professional what? Oh yes! We have talked to Stakka Bo, Roxette, M. Jackson and Madonna and they were all interested in our music. They also wanted to make a cooperation CD, but we said no. Our own CD will soon be out in the stores. Oh, by the way, we're having a huge (sold out) consert in Globen, Sweden in a few weeks.
Seriously, we have ran out of time lately to make real music. We have set up a stock with nice synth hits with elements of guitar. Perhaps we release some kind of demo tape along with the music disk, just wait and see...

Thank's a lot for letting me intrude upon your lives a dark day like this!

- It's OK. When do we get our money??? Gnarl!
