TAR Interview - page 1 By: Mc Deal&Charly/D-TECT This interview was hold on the AmiEXPO' 90 in Cologne by Mc Deal and Charly of D-TECT. H-M: Hi Kali and Torsten (without 'h'). Please introduce yourself and tell us something about the hardware you use(d)... TAR: Hi! I'm Torsten Burock. I'm 20 years old. The first contact with computers I had as I was 12 years old. I had a ZX81. Afterwards I got a C 64. But now I'm using an AMIGA. Hi! This is Karl-Heinz Binder. I'm 19 years old and my first computer was the good old C 64. But now I'm certainly using an AMIGA. H-M: How did you get in contact with the Amiga (music-) scene? TAR: First we used Dynamic Drums. Then one day I got the Soundtracker and started to do some musics. At that time we were in Victory. By that, we meet the Top Boys. With them we made our first muzak-disk. After our first release we meet Mr.Magic of Prophet's AG on a copy-party and decided to become members of the Prophet's AG. In this group we made our second muzak-disk. Muzak- disk 3+4 were released as Public Domain because Prophet's AG died. The code however was made by Mr. Magic (also known as Michael Cremer) and Armin Sander. Together with Armin we're trying to improve the Oktalyzer. H-M: Do you already have done profes- sional muzaks? TAR: Yes. We've done the sound for the Disk-Mon-Professional. H-M: I have heared that you had plans to do something with/for Thalion. TAR: Yes, you're right. But we failed as we tried to applied to Thalion TAR Interview - page 2 By: Mc Deal&Charly/D-TECT for a job. But said that we're a great team together with Armin. H-M: What was the reason? TAR: We think it is very hard to enter the professional scene without having good contacts in this busi- ness. Another reason was that we weren't so famous because our pro- ductions weren't spread very good! H-M: For which productions have you done sounds? TAR: We made sounds for: Supreme, CJ, Crazy Comix, HACK-MAG, Fusco Slide Show, Threat H-M: Can you imagine to live out of music? TAR: Yes, but only as employee like Jochen Hippel or Chris Hülsbeck. Yes we would do it! H-M: What are your projects for the future? TAR: First we wanna finish the Okt- alyzer UpDate (we do the testing and give Armin new ideas). After this we do some songs for Simplex (that's the name of the game from Armin and Michael). This game will come out together with TAR #5. H-M: How much time do you need to do an average song? TAR: That depends of the inspriation. The song for the last HACK-MAG for example was 3 months old and we finished it in one evening. But we are able to make a song in one or two days like e.g. Future Melody from the last TAR tuneshow. H-M: Are you able to make short songs, too? That's the biggest problem of most musicians. TAR: Yes, we are. It is very important to be in the position to do this, because e.g. in a game there is not much free memory! H-M: Please give us some comments about the following programs: TAR Interview - page 3 By: Mc Deal&Charly/D-TECT TAR: Face the Music: Rubbish! Because it is nearly impossible to use the songs in own productions 'cause of the silly replay. Soundtracker: ST was very good at the beginning but this time is over. Sidmon: No comment. TFMX: Hm, you must be Hülsbeck to understand it! Future Composer: It's OK. Oktalyzer: That is the prefect sound-program because everything you need is in it and we have the possibility to change it to our needs. H-M: What is your favourite amount of channels? TAR: We prefer 6 channels. That's the best combination between possibi- ties in doing sounds and the sound quality. H-M: Do you have a contact address? TAR: Yes, if you want to contact us for songs then call: 09401/4718 (Karl-Heinz) 09401/1850 (Torsten) But only professional contacts. We won't become members of a group! And nothing illegal! H-M: OK. Thanx for this little inter- view. Have fun at the fair! Caio!
