SATURNE PARTY REPORT

Saturne Party report

Written by Napoleon

It was probably the last party in this
summer '93, and the first such
important in France... You know what
happened to the Beach Party in the
summer '92 and since the Iris party in
December '91, the whole French scene
was awaiting a big party. The Saturne
Party was announced around 8 months ago
by the Saturne Group, this group was a
bit unknown on the scene (as White
Label in Holland) but they made it !!!

A beautifull place...
So on the Saturday 4 september 93, I
went to the Party near Paris... The
place was quite beautiful, there was
room for around 1000 people as stated
in the invitation. A little cafeteria
sold sandwiches, drinks and pizzas at a
very low price !!! For example a
sandwich costed 10FF (=2$ or 10Kr...).
Only 366 guys were here, but all best
French groups were represented as
Sanity, Dreamdealers, Digital, Majic
12, Iris, Intense, Movement, Syntex,
Analog, Angels, Cryptoburners, Trance,
Stellar, Mentasm, TSB, Ozone and a lot
of others...

The competitions
The first competition was ping-pong, on
the afternoon of Saturday. And then
the Sensible Soccer compo. The serious
competition started some hours after
the deadline (midnight on Saturday).
First one was the music, the organizers
choose 12 guys to select the 10 best
modules, but as the 12 guys seemed to
understand nothing in music, all the 10
modules played were quite bad, some
dudes were a bit angry on the
organization as Baby/Union,
Killerman/M12, Doh/Cryptoburners,
Clawz/Digital because their modules
wasn't played... Some minutes later it
was the gfx compo on A500, a high level
competition as you know there is a lot
of great graphicians in France as
Ra/Sanity, Suny/Movement,
Alex/Movement, Walt/Melon Dezign,
Hof/TSL, Mack/Melon Dezign ... 42
pictures were shown and there were at
least 10 great pictures, there were
also a lot of japanese pictures... For
the first time there was a gfx
competition on A1200 (YES! -ed.), but
only 10 pictures were given, some were
quite stunning but we have to wait
several months to see great AGA
pictures...

The most interesting competitions
started, first with intros... The
maximal lenght authorized was 64ko, 8
intros were in competition. But only 2
were great from Angels and
Cryptoburners surely... So there can't
be any doubt about the results. The
AGA demo competition was a bit poor
with only 3 contributions from Intense,
Arkham and Movement, thanks to this
group for AGA support !!! In this
compo too, there wasn't any doubt about
the results, the Movement demo was
greater... The last competition, the
demo compo, the level was very low, on
10 contributions there were only 2 good
(I didn't write great!) demos: The
Syntex one and Nova... And that's all
!!! We were a bit disappointed that
there weren't contributions from
Dreamdealers, Melon Dezign, Digital or
Majic 12...

But all the competitions were finnished
at 5:00Am on sunday, so we have to wait
more than 10 hours before the end of
the party !!! The reason was that the
organizers couldn't use the big screen
during the day due to the light, so all
competitions were made during the
night... It was probably the most
important fault in the organization but
they promised me that next time it
won't be the same !!!

So we had enough time to get all stuff,
to make some packs... and to wait for
the results. At 12:30 they delivered
all the prizes and gave all the
results, some people began to go and
others stayed to have a chat
together... Then in the middle of
afternoon, everybody went...

Some conclusions about this party:
Well, the first prize in the
democompetition on A500 was around
1000$, I think it's no so bad, but if
we were more than 360 guys, the prize
would be higher, so remember for next
year !!! Because there wasn't a lot of
good productions.
