THE SOUTHERN PARTY REPORT Report from The Southern Party Written by Warlord / Impulse First of all, I must explain that if you have read something about this party, you must think that it was a very little party, and in fact it was so ... but I think that it was very different of the rest of the parties. Arrangers: TIC-JAM/IMPULSE/DARKNESS Place: San Fernando, Spain. Date: 24-25 July 1993. To do a party in Spain is no easy. Since the Amiga appeared in Spain, only one party has been held ... it was the last year, organized by the best spanish groups: Fifth Generation and Darkness ... and only 34 guys appeared at the party place ... not a big party, eh? In this party we tried to do a big party, but to do this in a country where the scene is so little is in fact impossible. We have a lot of problems with the money, because we expected to collect about 150.000 pts (about 1.000 us dollars) and this was a real problem if you think that only the giant RGB monitor costed us about 550 dollars or the power installation 100$. The responsibles of the caffeteria said us the day before the party that he was not interested in opening the bar if only 50-60 guys come to the party. The shirts were a problem to and finally we only made 100 shirts ... and like these, we had a lot of problems the week before the party. Finally the party was held. There were exactly 267 guys at the party... a total record in Spain!. The groups present at the party were: Tic-Jam, Balance (Not the REAL ones! -Cs), Fifth Generation, Artifizial, Software Failure, Darkness Impulse, Batman Group, Intense, Art Regia, Lloret Free Byte, Digimed ... and a lot of independent guys. As I said before, it wasnt a big party but the local was big enough to everyone, there were no problem with the power supply, nothing (NOTHING!!) was stolen and everybody left the party happy and satisfied ... and I think that if the people are happy then it was a good party. The quality of the releases were really high, above all, in the gfx competition ... the quality of the spanish graphicians is one of the best of the scene, in spite of they are not know outside Spain The results were: DEMO COMPETITION: 1 .... Troglobyte / Darkness 2 .... Gurumaster / Fifth Generation 3 .... Rhino / Batman Group INTRO COMPETITION: 1 ... Oriol / Darkness 2 ... 007 / Fifth Generation 3 ... Kustom / Darkness MUSIC COMPETITION: 1 ... Dolby / Darkness 2 ... Estrayk / Darkness 3 ... Evelred / Fifth Generation GFX COMPETITION: 1 ... Reliant / Necropolis (F.G.) 2 ... God / LLoret Free Byte 3 ... Warlock / Darkness And that's all. We hope that others groups will arrange a new party here in Spain, and the Spanish scene will grow soon... and don't forget to give Spain a chance! - Warlord
