Who is Clawz of Bomb? He stormed the scene with the main sound tracks in productions like Real, Origin and Motion; He is also one of the men behind the superb music disk, Seduction. Now he is just resting on his brilliant work, waiting to be lifted further up in all scene charts... his name is Clawz, the musician who seems to have become the new Audiomonster of the French scene, when it comes to popularity stakes! "My official name is Mathieu Berthaud" , introduces himself the 20 year old Clawz. "I do not spend most of my time in front of my Amiga, but I really enjoy composing music on it... I often share my spare time with college friends or spend it practising fitness" In fact Clawz looks very different from your average fat scener, especially thanks to his one and only passion, skate boarding, from where the origins of his handle happens to come from. "I used to practise skate boarding 4 years ago, and there exists a brand of gloves, called Clawz. I don't even know how I liked this name, but I took it as a handle. At least, I'm nearly sure that nobody is using the same pseudonym as me! Now I'm used to it, even if I don't find it particularly pretty..." Maybe this is why our Clawz has recently altered his scene name into Claws! Claws is no scene newcomer at all. He has been member of various top groups of the past, like The Special Brothers, Digital and Complex. Nowadays he resides in Bomb, the group he formed together with his friend and adventure companion, Gengis. Musicians are strange people. Some don't even remember their first steps into the world of composing. However this is not the case of our Claws; "I have been composing for about four years now. My first module? It was just a masterpiece with a 3 note theme and horrible chords. Great!" Claws tells us that one of his most liked pieces of work is "Help tha fool", or better, Real's end part module. "It was fun and pleasant to compose" , smiles the relaxed Claws. Like some of his scene colleagues, Claws is no hardware maniac at all, and he doesn't even own a hard disk; the only composing aid he is used to, is an old sampler. "My Inspiration comes from all the music I listen to every day, but not precisely from a particular style of music. I nearly have NO synth equipment at all and thus my samples come from various CDs or from my friends' synths" When it comes to scene music, the French man has his own favourites. "I think that Heatbeat is my favourite composer, mainly for what he has brought to Amiga music. His themes are really strong (Scrambled Mind, Paras or Move-ment-al) and his technique, especially his volume control, is very pure. I also enjoy listening to music from Spaceman; his excellent tune in Groovy or his modules in Wonder Dog are great" Claws also agrees with the masses, when we ask him about his opinion on the Finish Dizzy. "He is the most original composer on Amiga. He has an awesome technique and great themes! I love his music! For me, Banana Split is the best module ever" As many might know, the group Bomb has nowadays gone commercial. Hence Claws is nowadays more active, making music and generating sound effects, under the BomB Software label. Their first project ever, the Doom clone, FEARS has been well received by the gaming world. Their publishing house, Manyx is overwhelmed by the success of this project, and is trying to convince the team to release a Virtual version, to be played using a Virtual Headset! "The development of a game is different from that of a demo, but also much more interesting. Fears consists of 30 levels, has many monsters to kill, secrets to solve and escapes passages to find. Gengis has done the code whilst Hof, Titan and Suny did the graphics. We hope that people will buy it!" , says an enthusiastic Claws. Claws and his friends in Bomb have nowadays decided to take it easy when it comes to demo producing, having also missed the opportunity to take part in the main demo contest at the recently held French event, the GASP party. "But we're planning to release a music disk and maybe a new demo by the end of the year" , says Claws. ROM leaves the French musician to his sound experimentation, and looks forward to see a life sign from Bomb at The Party 5!
