   - Slipstream - Party Report
by MIKE + JESTER / QUARTEX

Our journey to the party starts in
Leicester where Mike Quartex meets up
with ADS & Dax of Inner City, they
leave at 7:30 pm, five hours later
they arrive at my house; but before
they get here they have many problems
to overcome, firstly they arrive in my
road but knock at the wrong house,
luckily a gorgeous woman in a skimpy
dressing gown answers, next they drive
to Speedy Dennis's, he was out, in the
meantime they try to call me, but they
had the wrong number. Finally they
get here, we start calling some boards
and download the many new cracks
available. After no sleep and much
tiredness we decide to leave for
Bournemouth. As the party is not far,
we arrive within 45minutes of leaving
my place.
We park the car, see a sign
'SLIPSTREAM CONFERENCE' Cool!. We
walk down the side of the hotel and
find the conference hall, it was well

furnished, it even had air
conditioning, reluctantly we paid our
entrance fees(4 pound is alot for a
copy party). We'd arrived at 11:30 am
at this time there was only about 50
people present; adjoining the main
room were two small rooms, we occupied
one and set up the modem. In the
other room videos were being shown
(Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,Back to
the Future 3) but the highlight was a
porno movie where the 'star' turned
into a green alien!
By 14:00 many more guys had turned
up, most of the English groups had
made an appearance, by 17:00 the
kickoff tournament had started. The
winner was a Slipstream member aged
15, his prize: 2 porno movies!!
  At 18:00 the demo competition
started, Dan of Slipstream collected
all the demos,Slipstream,Anarchy,THR,
Magnetic Fields & share and enjoy
entered demos. The judges were to be
Mike / QUARTEX, Havoc / ECSTACY
Alchemist / Crack uk, myself plus two
guys.

After our first review, we'd THR,SAE
and Slipstream all tied for 1st place,
so we decided to judge the 3 remaining
demos on GFX,MUSIC,TECHNICAL and
LASTABILITY.
The outcome was: of a possible 240
points, in third place came The
Hacking Relation with 94 points,
second place went to Slipstream with
139, and the overall winner was the
amazing tunes 2 intro from SAE with
154 pts.

The judges felt that the SAE demo
was better than the Slipstream one
because all the ideas in the SAE demo
were their own, whereas the music in
the Slipstream demo sounded too much
like Romeo Knight/RSI. Of course
Andi/Slipstream was furious and tried
to make us change our minds, a case of
a bad looser maybe!
Anyways T.I.W received the prize on
behalf of Comrade J (A Naksha Mouse).
Then all the demos were compiled onto
2 disks, by 20:00 we had all left.

Our next journey took us to L.F of
Slipstream's (now Reaktor) house, of
course they left too quickly so we had
to buy a map and try and find the
place .We got there really easy.
Again the Green Alien porno movie was
showing (cult viewing by all). We set
up the modem (AGAIN!) and called the
U.S boards took down a shitty demo by
Paradox, but no more new wares.
At around 23:00 we left Kevin's
house and travelled to Gandalf of the
Druids, we stayed there overnight
before returning home in the morning.

CONCLUSION: A cool party, good
settings in sunny Bournemouth, lots of
groups.It was well organised (well
done Dan and Kevin),and I'm sure that
Slipstream (now Reaktor) will hold
another conference. Of the groups
that attended here is a list of some
of them: Slipstream (Yo Dan and
Kevin),Quartex, Anarchy (Hi Mr. Big ),
Ecstacy(ChillSteve(Havoc)),Silents UK
(Burp! Dave),Cryptic,Crack UK, T.H.R.
(I hope they got their mummy's
permission to come),SAE (Russ, Dream
Warrior); to name but a few.
