sitting on our bud! Being laZy ,

about the HokusPokus-1.! Thank you all

HokuSPokuS is a ChartMagazine with some
little Fun stories and some little news
We are not planning to make it very big
because half the text of big DiskMags
isn't worth the reading.. so we keep it
simple!.. But we are always waiting for
some news , nice stories , reviewz! ,
etc.. etc.. So.. if ya have some text's

design of HokuSPokuS , a lot of people
didn't beleve that it was FACET's work
But it really was!.. I did like it,but
some of our readers sended us other
layout desings.. Tank you all for
sending these things!.. But I've cho-
zen for the design of my GFX man HUIB
I liked it verry mutch, i hope it's a
little better then the first one!!...
But if you want to make a better one,
just send it to me!.. If it's a cool
layout design, it will be used in HP3!

The Dutch scene has a great potential. Laugh if you want, but
it is true. The Dutch scene has brought a lot of cool people into
the scene (Facet, Danny, Crackerjack, Antony, Hein, Tsm, Fabian,
Jay 1 etc. etc.) but guess what happens all the time? We (the dutch)
always come up last...
Ramon B5 of Desire already said it in his article in Hokus Pokus
issue 1; there are a lot of dutch groups and there have always been
a lot of dutch groups. ... And that is exactly were the dutch go wrong.
They do not melt their powers into one great beam of Dutch red-white-blue
power (and a touch of orange) ... NO! The dutch people form hundreds of
little, inactive, lousy groups.
I say: What do groups matter?!
In a small country as Holland we should all work together. Facet
draws a picture for Hokus Pokus and Danny makes a piccy for Chit
Chat, Antony codes the new trackmo with gfx of Facet and music of
Jayce. Get the picture? Just be proud of being dutch, think of your
own country once and just cooperate.
Second of all, dutch sceners always have a tendency to go to other
countries. Maybe because they are ashamed of their little Holland,
I dunno. But just look at the scene history... Dutch get famous,
Dutch leave Holland. It seems to be an unwritten law in the scene.
I think this is very wrong. Why do you have to join bigger foreign
groups when you get a little better? Just stay here and make the best
out of the Dutch scene. We have great coders, musicians, graphicians
and swappers to spread all of it. Just stay at your homebase and just
wait and see what you can make of it.
Because of the above I am extremely happy with this Chart-mag-thingy
called Hokus Pokus. We needed it badly: an all dutch chart! Great!
I hope that Mellow will continue this project into the very far future!
I also hope that Mellow wants to include a corner in Hokus Pokus which
is written in the Dutch language. This will contribute a lot to the
dutch scene (in my humble opinion) because dutch is great to tell
exacly what you mean (for a dutch person ofcoz) and to tell some
little dutch-iside-jokes! What about that Mellow? Please include
that corner in your chart!
Last but not least I want to exit this article by telling you
a slogan of the legendary old-Axis!

Dutch Treat - A dutch promo!
A long time ago, back in 1993, some people in Holland (I believe
the group 'Origin' came up with the idea!) had the great
idea to make a cooperation demo. The demo was to be called:
'Made in Holland' and all kinds of different groups (or single
members) could participate in this project, as long as they
were dutch. Dutch coders could participate by coding a piece
of the demo, graphicians could feature with some cool gfx, musicians
were able to play their latests in the demo and so on...
As far as I (Sane of Monk) know this coop-demo was never released.
This is really too bad because the idea was very great! Everybody
knows that the dutch scene has never been very popular, not
amongst dutch people and not amongst foreign people.
This has always been a great problem for the scene in Holland.
Though the scene here really has some great people, this has never
came forward. Only few groups made name in the past and really
became internationally known. Examples are of course,-
Axis, Vision, Jetset, Legend, Desire and that was it already.
Only those handfull of groups were the groups with a hardcore
in Holland which have really become known around the world.
This is really ashame because individual persons with great
skills are not rare in Holland at all. Just look at the big names
(in the past and the present) which were born in Holland.
Because Holland has one of the smallest scenes in the world, were
everybody knows everybody (like in a small country-village),
this is the perfect country to start cooperation productions.
We can be one of the first countries which make great productions
by melting the powers and skills of different (Dutch) groups
together, and staying individual groups anyway. Cause, be honest,
what is Holland producing now besides a handfull of good prods
(This chart-mag, Chit-Chat, Big time/Axis ...)?! Nothing but
some boring crack-intro's!
I really think it is time for a revival of the Origin-idea of
the coop 'Made in Holland' demo. I agree with you that I am not
the pointed person who can start something HUGE like this, but
because no-one else gives a try, I will do it anyway.
Well, the dutch members of Monk (Jay One and me) are the first
ones who will participate in this coop-idea and we hope a lot
more will follow!
-The idea :
We want to make a cooperation between all kinds of (known or
not, that doesn't matter!) dutch groups or individual members.
This production will be AGA (of course!) and will be called:
'Dutch Treat' and it is going to be a multiple music demo with
various text-parts (some in dutch and some in english) and some
slideshow aspects. Some piccys come up in a slideshow-way with
cool musics, some cool routines will feature this demo and each part
will have its own music.
-Why? :
To give a little but more joy to the sceners in Holland, to
give a chance to skilled people who rarely get changes cause
of the few good prods in Holland.
To promote (PROmote-deMO=PROMO) Holland to the rest of the scene.
Finland did it a long time ago with their 3 disk musicdisk called
'Finlandia' produced by Complex and Dual Crew, which featured a lot
of musics from very known Finnish groups like Crusaders and TRSI to
'less known' Finnish groups as Scup and Byterapers inc.
We, as 'Hollanders' could do it a lot better and we have to prove it!!
Everybody in the dutch scene can participate in this project,
coders, musicians, graphicians, etc. as long as you are Dutch!
I really hope some people will get some enthusiasm from this
article and I ask everybody with a coordinate and/or design-skill
to contact me. Everybody who wants to participate with his/her
work or wants info on this subject can write us too!

The Imagination '95 was a pretty kewl
workshop , all new products were there
at the imagination! One of the most
importand company's at the Imagination
was SILICON GRAPHICS , they showed
their productions like: Indy, Crimpson
Baby ONYX ,Indigo ,Vault & Challenge
Indigo2. And they show the powers of
all those machines!.There was Realtime
image processing. Like all features
of adpro such as Realtime Motion blur
Blur, Rotating, mapping, (water) wave.
This wave was very simple by just
pressing with the mous on the chozen
24 bit picture!.. Nice effects on this
machine!
LightWave

Even lightwave was there on the work-
shop Img'95. 3gitaal Showed the best
work made with lightwave, sutch as
little movies, video clips, comercials
3gitaal had shown the powers of this
kewl raytrace program. They showed the
ALPHA, MIPS risc version of Lightwave,
but those versions are an EXACT copy
of the AMIGA version! 3gitaal showed
all kind of RAPTORS (version 1, 2, 3).
But they told that the PENTIUM 100 is
even as fast as a RAPTOR 1. Only the
PENTIUM is a lot cheaper then the RPT.
Internet

All systems on the Img'95 were connect
-ed by internet with eachother. So you
were able to walk in a VR-Imagination
workshop on a SILICON-Indy. Every Sys-
tem was connected with ISDN - internet
ISDN is around 5k/s it's not that fast
but it works better then the normal
a normal modem!..

AMIGA<>ESCOM

Amiga isn't DEAD!. Escom will continue
the production of the Amiga. Around
SEPT. this year the models A600, A1200
and A4000 will be back in production.
And they probably will be sold in all
Escom shops! And there are planZ for
special Amiga stores. That's what
about the older types. But Escom is
busy with some new stuff, they already
have designs of the Axxxx tower. It's
not sure that the design is made for
a NEW version A4000 or a whole new
AMIGA?.. (A5000 ??).. And there are
plans for new RISC Amiga's. It's not
sure witch processor they will use in
the new Amiga's , it could be the
HP-PA RISC or the PowerPC RISC (Motor-
ola). But i prefer the MIPS R4600 RISC
series or the ALPHA RISC (Up TO 300MHZ
) for the NEW Amiga's!!.. Thats Mutch
faster then HP-PA RISC or PowerPC!...
ALPHA & MIPS are used in RAPTOR and
SiliconGraphics!. The nices thing
whould be that the Amiga will be
changed to a BIG Workplatform sutch as
SUN, SiliconGFX, RAPTOR and other RISC

-The prods that top this charts-
When I read the first issue of Hokus Pokus I was surprised
by the older productions topping the chart. Well, after some
time I was not so surprised anymore because I realised that
in the old days (1989-1992) Holland had some pretty cool demo
groups (the -real- Vision, the -real- Axis, the -old- Desire and
a handfull of others like Jetset and Royal Amiga Force) which have
made awesome productions!
I came up with the idea to write a little article about an old
production topping this chart every issue. I want to do that because
some of you may have never seen these old products and some of
you may have seen them but forgot every detail of it.
I will choose a demo every issue which is in my opinion very good
and worth to over-review (that is what I like to call it: reviewing
it all over again!) it.
Anyway, this issue I will over-review the superb (still!) demo
of Vision called 'Can't be'.
-This is really an old style demo but ... for it's time it was pretty
innovative. Back in 1991 (aprox. because I can not find a release-date
anywhere! But somewhere in a scroller TSM says 'Asta las vista baby!'
That must have been around the time that 'Terminator 2 -Judgement day'
was popular, so that must be around 1991.) the leading guys of the Dutch
scene made this demo. TSM was responsible for the code and his brother
Hein did both the gfx and the music.
The demo starts with a 'decrunching demo' logo with bouncing balls in
the square around this logo. This was common for that period of time:
every group did something with the decrunch-time; TSM made bouncing
balls.....
Then the demo really starts. A great Vision logo with some cool balls
appears on the screen. What you will notice immediately is the awesome
music by Hein, you can not define in words, it is just great.
Then some texts appear as vectors on the screen saying something about a
new world record, the last text saying 'So what?' blows apart to separate
pixels. After a great picture of a person with sunglases and a wintercoat,
we discover what this new world record was; no less than 16 sinescrollers
come onto your screen! Notice the great, partly Dutch texts in the scrollers,
really awesome and funny!! That was pretty great for that period of scene-
history! (BTW: Crackerjack of Axis did some more sinusscrollers in his
'Can be'-part of his trackmo 'Unknown territory' a few months later! More
about that trackdemo in the next issue....) The green logo in this part which
says 'Can't be' is not so great, but nice anyway .....
Next, TSM, the master coder, introduces the 'burning vector' to us.
In a time of boring filled, glenz etc. vectors, this was a great new
way to introduce depth to us. (Again: more about depth in the next issue in
my over-review of 'Unknown territory'!) This was also a very fast pixel-
routine; 2500 pixels a frame (!) with a filled vector TSM still manages 1500
pixels a frame! A very nice effect indeed.
We go on and see a Vision vector on the screen. The scroller shows us
a nice text. The texts is like this ' .... we think we are in a very good
shape today .... ' And those guys were o so right because years later their
demo is still amongs the Dutch most famous and greatest releases! ...
Then we reach the last part of this demo. (Yes! The end 'can be' reached!)
This part shows us another Vision vector which bounces back and forth on
the screen in a kind of slomo-style! Very nice. The bad side of this end
part is that the music restarts here, Hein should have done a longer
version of his music for this great demo. Also a minor side effect is the
Bbs bullshit. But in that period of time understandable because every group
had 3,4,5,6 or even more boards.
As I said before this demo is very cool and the whole Dutch scene must
be proud of it .... So vote for this great piece over and over again!!!

How to do a vetcor-cut

We probably all know what I mean with 'VECTOR CUT' (also known as 'SPACE
cutted vectors') : YOU PLACE A NORMAL(LINE or Fill ED)VECTOR On THE Screen
and fool the viewer by letting him or her think that your vector cut's with
the back ground, while in reality it doesn't.
This is a real simple effect, but it looks so damn nice and a lot of coders
(starting or not) think to heavy about it. Here you have a simple approach
of how to do it... For this article, I've partly taken the method of
Syntax/Tomato Dreams, because my own method (although faster) is way to
difficult to explain in a small article ! So : Thanks Syntax !
Let's say that you've got some coordinates defining a line; x¹, y¹, z¹ and
x², y², z². You can then put the line in a drawing, showing how the line is
placed in relation ship with the z-axis :

This is THE article for wich you have waited so long... It contains THE two
ways to create a real stonking demo ! Interested ? Bet ya...
METHOD 1
--------
For this method you only need ONE extra hardware device (apart from your
monitor or tv ofcourse !) : an Action Replay, or a similar device. Lately
it seems that there's also a 100% software version of the cartridge around
(by Paradox ?) so this is by far the cheapest method ! Now here are the
instructions...
1. Load a real good (AGA) demo, like Nexus 7 / Andromeda.
2. Wait until a real storming effects pops up
3. Press the red button (or the short-key in the software version)
4. Enter the dissasembler and voila; you have a cool routine !
5. Change some of the parameters in the source
6. Change some colours in the routine
7. And voila : Your latest and greatest routine is ready !
METHOD 2
--------
This method is somewhat more expensive, altough it IS simpler... You need a
normal modem (although I don't know if you can get acces with a 1200/2400
BPS modem today !) and an account on a BBS with a SOURCES area... These
bbs' increase with the day, so this should be no problem at all. Browse to
the file listings until you see the (source) files of some actual (or even
non-released) demos. Download them, unpack them and load them into your
assembler. Now follow steps 5 to 7 of the previous method, and your routine
is ready ! Great eh ?
Do this a couple of times and you have gotten yourself enough routines to
create the best trackmo the scene has ever seen... Good luck !

This article will explain the best method to create a voxel-space. What ?
You don't know what a voxel-space is ? Well, just watch Mindflow & The
Party 4 40k intro from Stellar or Prey from Polka Brothers and you'll see
it !
It basicly goes like this; we first create a 2d landscape in, let's say, 4
bitplanes, then we want HOLD IT ! I can't continue this article !
- Why ?

- Don't be so silly... Why ?
+ 'Coz if I'll continue, every coder with the inteligence of a Corky (in
reference with the 'Alternative News' ?) could do a voxel-space with my
method !
- Is that so bad ?
+ Well... No, it isn't THAT bad... Infact, it would be quite cool... Let's
continue !
- Pffff...
As said, we first create a 2d landscape in 4 bitplanes. We then want it to
look like a 3d 'plasma' (voxel) landscape. We do this by putting HOLD IT !

marvellous routine, and it will be copied for 100% again and again, each
time without even MENTIONING my name...

I saw this routine in exactly FOUR intros in the past few months. And it
was EXACTLY the same; even the colours ! It will be the same with my
routine for sure !

I'm sick of it ! All those damn unfriendly routines and demos makes me puke
! What makes me even more sick, is the fact that in most cases those
so-called unfriendly routines are so simple to fix in order to work on most
computers (accepting that they're not AGA only or something !)... This
article contains some tips on how to make more system-friendly code, and
what you SHOULD do (and ofcourse what you SHOULDN'T !).
Ok, this may sound stupid, but a lot of coders don't wait for the blitter
to finish ! Now that's stupid !
Also, you should avoid using direct addressing and selfmodifying code. For
example, never use something like this :

Always use this method :

That's much more system friendly and in some cases it'll make your routines
actually work when you're in ASMONE
Also, check your routines on other computers (not pc's ofcourse !). If your
routine works to fast or buggy on an A1200 (supposing that you coded it on

Without joking, there seems to be a kind of -We can do it better, so we
don't have to be original- thinking nowadays ? There are ofcourse a few
exceptions, but overall there aren't very much new and innovative effects.
What can we do about this ? Do we already know all effects ? NO WAY !
Here's what pops up into my mind at this moment, suitable for both AGA and
ECS :

- Shade tunnel
- Water cut vectors
- Morphing water
- Burning texture tunnels
Ok... I admit the last one is a bit strange and also copied a bit, but the
first four are unknown for all of you. AND DON'T SAY THAT THEY AREN'T !
I have to admit that I wasn't that original previous year; especially not
Facet's Pussy 40k intro (which was mainly coded by me) didn't contain any
new effects... One routine which I was proud of though, was the double
fractal zoomer (how the hell did that bug came there ?). A lot of my
contacts really found a GREAT routine... Ok, wait till you hear how it
works, because in reality, there aren't two fractals... But that doesn't
matter right now ! All that matters is that we have to try and be original,
or forget your fame (and name !). So come on, and be original !
Oh, and don't use the effects mentioned above till I've used them ! Ehm...

Ift : Ok ok, don't panic ! My real name is Rene v/d Steen, I'm 16 and some
months old (or young, unlike you !). In the scene I try to be a coder

I've been in the scene since '92 and I'm still enjoying it.. I also
swap a bit, but less than some months ago -> I've just dropped about
30 contacts...
Ndl : I guess those 30 are really happy now.. :) Can you tell our viewers
what you have released since you've been in the scene.. (So we can
laugh !)
Ift : Ehhhh... I started in Silicon and only released some small party
invitations... In Score, I did nothing ! Then, in Abnormal I coded some
routines for the forthcoming SIH 2 demo, but then I left for Motive...
Did nothing there again, because after 4 days I left for Facet's Pussy
together with you... In FP I've released a HOKUS POKUS trailer (simple),
Prestige crackintro, party 4 40k intro (main part by me), and when you
read this, also the HOKUS POKUS #2 intro and the 28th of February demo
called Probleemloos ! Update -> My Amiga crashed while saving the
100% sources of Probleemloos, causing them all to erase themselves !
But watch out for my SATURNE 3 intro though... (This interview is
really up-to-date ! I left FP to join EssEnce ;-> ed)

? Hmmmmm... why are all the lamers uploading all kind of textfiles ?
? about the SIH'95 that it was lame???? ?

Ok the amount of people who were expected was just the half, there
were around 350-400 people, the organisation expected around 800
people!.. ok That SUXX!..
But for the real sceners the party was NEAT!.. lot of people from
outside countries were at the SIH'95.. More than half of al the
people i spoke on the party were from outside coutries, so people who
say : 'there were no people of outside coutries' , they are really stupiD!
There were enough cool groups on the SIH'95 like : MeLon - design , Axis -
holland , AbysS , Biosynthetic, Hoodlum, Polka (one guy)...
And there were enough cool scenes like : Devilstar , Walt , Anthony
Hollywood, Facet, Danny, SuperNAO, ISO, LowLife-axis, Dreamer...
And that were just a view of all the scenerS... Soo.. enough nice people!
But there were'nt enough people for the organisation, to get profit on
this party.

About the organisation!:

Congrats to the organisation! The organisation did the best they could do,
They arranged a nice COLOUR-Bigscreen with big boxes beside it for enough
Music Power! The sleeping hall was nice there was a nice soft floor
on the ground. (and that's not on every party! On Party 4 denmark you just
have to lay on the hard BETTON!).In the mainhall there was enough place for
everyone to put his/her computer!... The MAC-donnaldz was about 10mins
walking from the party place, so that was nice to! So the organisation
did well!...
The main reason about the less amount of people on the SIH is(what i think)
that a lot of people went to the beach or something because of the nice
wether!.. But you can see that the REAL sceners were at the SIH and the
(MODEM) LAMERS stayed Home... Well keep it like that, because we don't need
that kind of people on the SCENE-PARTY's!...
