Today, 31st of January 1996, i (DELiTE) decided to pull the plug on my bbs (ATMOSPHERE). Numerous reasons not to do that have been thought over for months now, but it seemed like it wasnt going to get any nicer so it was enuff after 1,5 years (to be exact since the 28th of June 1994). Analyzing the scene was something i was loved/hated for, so therefor i will make some statements bout that as well. When i started the sysop-thang, i was one of the 'last' dudes really into the scene. This is something that you might disagree on, but i know of numerous others that they agree with this. Anyways, nuffink worth to argue about, the state of things have changed. In the beginning it was normal to have so-called traders online which pumped it full! and every day, every hour it was a busy bbs. there was competitiveness between the dudes, causing me to get even further excited about the bbs. When we compare this to today, lots of dudes are gone. Some of them are on PC now. Some are on the net (with or without my help), with other words, yesterdays users arent the same ones as today. Todays users don't give a damn bout trading and charts and whatsoever (this seems to be the case in every country), resulting in less frequent calling users. Now this doesnt matter. Getting files yourself as a sysop is an okay thing to do as well (i think), but when you start getting 30mb+ a week and there isnt even 15mb download of those same files, then you are doing stuff no-one is interested in. And i dont want to continue that. Furthermore, i'm being dependant on 2 good friends here (which happen to be sysops as well), and if i'm only getting files to support them, then i don't need a bbs no more. Remember, i didn't START a bbs for the files (coz i can't see none of them anyways on a fucking ECS). This isn't the case for MOST of those sysops out there rite now, with their initial thoughts like 'hey! lets get a bbs! so i dont have to spend money on the phonebill!'. Needless to say, i really HATE those sysops, and hope their harddisks will be infected/destroyed/stolen/whatever. Those dudes aren't 'scene', those dudes aren't 'cool', those dudes are fucking incompetent idiots! If you read this and you are one of those, feel free to hang yourself..... Anyways back to the good part of this file (damn. I did it again, making it a rant&rave you all love/hate to read!(=) I know i will miss it! sure i will! perhaps i'll return (yeah, like all those countless others who stated that), but one thing IS certain, and that is that i ain't gonna do this disappearing act most of them pulled in the past! I'll be around on countless boards, doing the oldskool thang, namely trading. (if you dont know what trading is, sell your modem). And ofcoz i'll be in- fecting the internet with my presence as well (coz thats what i'm known for:-) so if you desperately need me, check IRC channels #amigascne, #amielite or #snes for my presence, and i'll kick some butt okay? ;-) otherwise look me up on *ANY* of the telnet boards around, coz thats where the trade will be in these coming times (wanna bet on a bottle of booze?)
