THE COMPUTER CROSSROAD '93 The C O M P U T E R C R O S S R O A D '9 3 Party-invitation Created in a few days of March 1993 by Iceman, Zodiak, Delsion and O'Hara. Writer: Zodiak General Information: ---------------------- The Computer Crossroad '93! The first in a series of parties to be held by the very elite of Swedish demoproducers with the best facilities possible in an ideal place: Gothenburg, the second largest city of Sweden with connections to the rest of Europe by boat, airplane and whatsoever. We are proud to be one of the two PC organizers and together with our friends in The CodeBlasters we will try to make this party the best in PC history. Of course how fun any party can be all depends on who and how many come. So please consider going to this party ! The PC scene had its biggest gathering in Denmark at The Party 1992. The main reason why everyone came seems to be that Aars was quite easy to travel to. With the ferry/road/plane-connections to Gothenburg it couldn't be much worse for most people travelling to Gothenburg than travelling to Aars. If you live on the continent, check out the ferry connections. There are so many ways of travelling to Gothenburg! Some more and some much less expensive. The Computer Crossroad '93 official invitation text ----------------------------------------------------- You are welcome to The Computer Crossroad, which is the first of a new generation of demo parties arranged by the top groups on the Amiga, PC, Atari and C64 scenes. With 'a new generation' we mean that these parties are for all computer brands, therefore the witty name 'The Computer Crossroad'. This is the party for ALL hackers. We mention only the four brands Amiga, PC, Atari and C64, because we believe that they are the most popular computers in Europe. With 'the first', we mean that there will be a party here in Gothenburg even next year, and every year from now on. There will be competitions for demo programmers, music composers and graphic artists. These competitions will only be for the above mentioned computers. Where and when? --------------- The party starts on Saturday 29th of May and ends on Monday the 31st, and is located at the Swedish Exhibition Centre in Gothenburg, which is the main exhibition centre in Sweden. The party place is right in the heart of Gothenburg, right next to Liseberg, an amusement park with masses of exciting rides, artists, restaurants and the largest arcade hall in the world. All visitors have a free entrance fee to Liseberg. A few minutes walk or a tram ride away you find Kungsportsavenyn with pubs, restaurants, cinemas and discoteques. Competitions ------------ General rules for all competitions: - The competitors must be present at the party. - Only one contribution from each group/composer/artist. - All contributions must be 100% finished. - We will copy and spread all contributions except for the PC demos. - All entries must be delivered IN TIME at the information counter near the entrance. - All disks must be marked with a name and an address, so we can contact the competitors, this because one of the sponsors may want to have a word with the competitors about using their masterpiece. - Different from other parties, the deadlines are actually DEADLINES. Since this party is a rather big event, the schedule is tight and we cannot afford pushing any deadlines, so please be ready in time... - If a demo requires any user interaction, we want ONE of the competitors to run the demo in the control room. - All contributions will be looked at by a committ‚e of 10 people, and the best ones will be shown/played on the big screen/sound equipment. This is done because of the limited time we have to show/play all the contributions. 5 hours per computer only for watching demos is quite a lot... - In the demo compos, the prize money will be shared by the three winning demos, counted at a percentage of their votes. The more votes you get, the more money you win. Amiga demo - Prize money: 20000 SEK ($2800) -------------------------------------------- - We will run the demo on a A500+ machine with 1M memory. - The disk must start from the boot, even if it is a one-file demo. - We will show the demo for 15 minutes absolute maximum. - 10 demos will be selected by the committe. Amiga graphics -------------- - The picture must be loadable from DeluxePaint 4.0. - 30 pictures will be selected by the committe. Amiga music ----------- - The tune must be an executable file. - We will play the tune for max. 3 minutes. - 20 tunes will be selected by the committe. Atari demo - Prize money: 10000 SEK ($1400) ------------------------------------------ - We will run the demo on a 1040STE with 1M memory. - The disk must start from the boot, even if it is a one-file demo. - 10 demos will be selected by the committe. Atari graphics -------------- - The picture must be an executable file. - All formats are allowed. - Only the picture must be seen on the screen, no scrolls or other moving things. - 30 pictures will be selected by the committe. Atari music (modules) --------------------- - The tune must be an executable file. - We will play the tune for max. 3 minutes. - 20 tunes will be selected by the committe. PC demo - Prize money: 10000SEK ($1400) --------------------------------------- - We will run the demo on a standard 486-33MHz with ET4000, Soundblaster Pro. - The demo must be able to run from hard disk. - 10 demos will be selected by the committe. - We know from the earlier PC gatherings that the competition demos are often not bugfixed and sometimes run through batchfiles. Therefor, the PC demos will only be shown on the big screen, not spread like the others. You will be allowed to test your demo on the machine connected to the bigscreen (but not ON the bigscreen) before we show them to the audience. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - [ PC NOTE! ] [ We are plannning PC gfx competition and perhaps other competitons also. ] [ Information about these will be published in the Creativity Demo Net. ] [ For the latest information please contact the party staff. ] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - C64 demo - Prize money: 5000SEK ($700) -------------------------------------- - We will run the demo on a standard C64 with the old VIC and SID chips and the old 6526 timer chips, a 1541 drive, and an Action Replay MK6 cartridge. - 10 demos will be selected by the committe. C64 graphics ------------ - The picture must be an executable file. - All formats are allowed. - Only the picture must be seen on the screen, no scrolls etc. - 30 pictures will be selected by the committe. C64 music --------- - The tune must be an executable file. - We will play the tune for max. 3 minutes (phew!). - 20 tunes will be selected by the committe. We didn't mention the prizes in the music and graphics compos, because these are donated by the sponsors, and are subject to change. Please help us -------------- As the walls of the exhibition hall is rather naked, we would want all the groups to decorate it with posters, banners, pictures and other stuff. Note that we are NOT talking about painting the walls for us!!! The best decoration wins a prize. What is there? -------------- Normally, this is where we start bragging about the size of the hall, the size of the video screen and how many dogs we can kill with the sound equipment. We find the equipment sufficient for our needs, and we don't want to brag about it. We take things like that for granted. There is room for at least 2500-3000 people, so don't worry. How to get there ---------------- As the party place is in the heart of Gothenburg, there is no need for a detailed description. Just take the car, ferry, bus, train, plane or whatever to Gothenburg and find the Swedish Exhibition Centre (Svenska Massan). More detailed information on how to get there is in the folder, which we will send to you when you contact us. There are busses going from Stockholm - Gothenburg. Price 225 SEK round trip.
