INTERVIEW WITH YOGHURT/SPACEBALLS Interview with Yoghurt of SPACEBALLS Done by Jim / AWE (DP = Jim / AWE) (YO = Yoghurt / SPACEBALLS) DP: Hello Tomas!!! Introduce yourself and give us some info about youself. YO: Hi! You have in a way already introduced me, but my name is Tomas Andersen. My handle is Yoghurt and I've been a member of SPACEBALLS for approx 2 years now. Well... I'm 19 years old and started at an engineeringschool this year. I'm the main organizer and musician in our group, but I also do some graphics and swapping. Right now I'm working on a chartmag together with Shade of DEVILS. First issue will hopefully come some time in December. (..But no...!-ed.) DP: Tell us about your music! When did you start and so on? YO: I have always liked to make music. I started to play guitar when I was 7 years old, and since then I've made some tunes... I got my first Amiga 4 years ago, but I didn't make anu music until some time before I joined SPACEBALLS... Well, I guess it's hard to tell you how my music is. I make all kind of music... DP: How much time do you spend on a tune and from where do you get the inspiration for your tunes? YO: How much time I spend on a tune depends on the tune I make. Chiptunes can be made in half an hour, while other tunes will need several days.... About inspiration... I get inspiration from everywhere. Whereever you are there is some music around... Tv, radio shops, etc. etc.. When listening to all this, I pick up some ideas and try to compose something in my head... After tracking some of these ideas, I just continue the composing on the computer. DP: Give the readers some info about SPACEBALLS and about former groups you have been a member of! YO: SPACEBALLS started 2-3 years ago. Then the group consisted of 4 coders only. During the 2 last years the memberlist have increased and current members are now: Lone Starr (coder) President Screw (coder) Dark Helmet (coder) Prince <1(coder) Major Asshole (coder) Pagan (graphics artist) Sator (graphics artist) Morten (graphics artist) Nick (swapper) Scott (musician) TMB Design (Graphics artist) Vinnie (musician) Travolta (musician) Krueger (swapper) Godfather (swapper) Yoghurt (main oraganizer and musician) All members but Kruger and Godfather are Norwegians. Krueger is from Denmark and Godfather is from Germany. We have released two trackmo's called Spasmolytic and Wayfarer. Some intros have also been released. We will release a trackmo in Aars (already done and they actually won the first price with their amazing trackmo called: "State Of The Art".-ed.) this christmas. A musicdisk and intro is also coming soon. A lot of guys are probably wondering why we have choosen such a silly name as we have. The name SPACEBALLS was taken from the movie by the same name. Some of our members have also used names from this movie. I think it's inportant to have fun and not be too serious about making productions. This is life or death, but it isn't. There are other things in life next to the scene and we must not forget it! Having fun is important, having goals to reach in life is also important, but don't overdo it! I was a member of a couple of unknown groups before SPACEBALLS, but they don't exist anymore. Nothing interesting! DP: You did some of the music in the "Wayfarer" demo. Tell us some details about it. YO: The last 2 weekends before the party we worked very hard to finnish the sound for "Wayfarer". While Lone Star drew the vector objects, Vinnie and I made the sound. Vinnie did most of the music while I worked most with the sound effects. We had quite fun making these sound effects. We used the shower to make the rain in the first part. The sound effects in the main part was taken from Top Gun and Iron Eagle II. DP: Do SPACEBALLS have some future plans? If so, tell us bout them. YO: As I said we will release a trackmo this christmas. We will probably work on a game for some time in 1993. Some intros and a musicdisk/slideshow will be released. That's about it. DP: Do you like parties? What was your favorite party? YO: Yes, I think parties is the best part of beeing in the scene. At parties you meet all your friends (and enemies?), compete with other groups and have fun! These competitions is very good for the scene. The groups is getting better and better and the productions being made now seemed to be impossible to make some years ago. My favorite party is without the party in Aars, christmas 1991. The Gathering '92 was also great. I look forward to visit Aars this christmas. It will be stunning! DP: Are SPACEBALLS planning a party? YO: The thought has crossed our minds, but we don't plan to arrange one in the nearest future. Maybe a cooperation later... We'll see... DP: What kind of equipment do you have? YO: A500, 1 extra disk drive, a GVP sampler, Philips monitor... That's about it... DP: Tell us about your favorite musician, graphician, coder, group and diskmag. YO: My favorite musicians are Nuke and 4-Mat. I'm very impressed by their tunes. I don't have any particulary favorite graphician, but I think Mack and Facet are great... The Spy is a good coder and I'm impressed by his work. My favorite groups are ANARCHY and SILENTS. The design and coding is usually great in their productions. There are many good diskmags, RAW is the mag I like best. Always good articles and a lot of interesting stuff to read. DP: what do you think about a chart for only Norwegian persons? YO: I think it's good to have a chart for only Norwegians just to see how the Norwegian scene is, nut I'm more interested in a chart where everybody can be in. The scene consists of not just Norway and therefore a global chart is prefered. DP: What kind of music do you listen to and what kind of movies do you enjoy? YO: I listen to all kind of music. Techno, heavy, jazz, rock, blues, just everything. Since I've played guitar myself for approx. 12 years I listen a lot to guitarists like Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, etc. etc. When it comes to movies, I like comedies and thrillers. Some of my faorites are the 3 alien movies, "Spceballs" (ofcourse!-ed.), "Hot Shots" and Steven King movies... DP: Descripe the girl of your dreams. YO: Cindy Crawford... (WHERE!?-ed) DP: Okay, that was the last question and I hope you liked this interview. Now you can give some greets and last words. YO: Well, greetings fly out to: Mantronix and Jas / PHENOMENA Lord Helmet / PMC Toxic / E.O.C. 1999 Vampire / DAI Lizard / ANDROMEDA Psycho-Demon / ALPHA FLIGHT Zycro / T.E.K.
