            Interview with

      Z o z o
        o f
     Majic 12

       done by MOP of ALCATRAZ

MD: Hi Zozo! Please can you introduce
    yourself to our fellow readers,
and if possible, give us some
    detailed personal info on
    yourself?

ZZ: Well, I'm 21 years old and my real
name is Zoltan Kozak. I'm living
    in Hungary and I'm a student. I
    hope it's enough!

MD: I know, that at the moment you're
studying at the college. Can you
tell us something more, and maybe
    describe your typical college
    days?

ZZ: Well I think a typical college
week can be much better. It's
starting on Monday morning, but at
that time I'm always sleeping at
home. I wake up at 9.00 and at
12.00 I'm leaving Sopron to the
college. On Monday I have only a
3 hour long German lesson. On
Tuesday I have to wake up really
early at 8.00 and I visit a tariff
    lesson. Then I'm free. On
Wednesday I'm free. If I'm lesson
sick I visit an hour at midday.
On Thursday I wake up early again
at 8.00 course the head of the
    transport will celebrate a lesson
and I have to be there. In the
    afternoon I meet my English
teacher and then I'm going home.
You can ask if this is really
true. Yes, I know some dudes who
are missing more times from the
college, sometimes for 2 or 3
    weeks.

MD: All week days you're at the
    college, but during the weekend
you're at home. Do you spend all
your free time in front of your
    machine?

ZZ: Earlier I spent most of my time in
the front of my Amiga, but in the
last 3 months all of my scene
    activities were reduced to play
with Chinese Challenge II and pick
up the phone and have chat.

MD: Tell us something about your
    home-town and Hungary in general,
what do you like, what you hate,
    attractions...

ZZ: Well Hungary is generally OK
nowadays. If you look around it's
    a bit weird (ex Yugoslavia,
Romania, ex USSR). About my home
town. It's one of the most
    marvellous towns in Hungary.

MD: Well, now let's pass on to some
    more standard questions about the
scene. Have you been in other
    groups before Majic 12?

ZZ: No. Earlier I was in love with
Cement Crew, but Majic 12 is the
    continuum of ILC.

MD: Why did you choose the name ZOZO?

ZZ: It just came. Do you think that
    Sunshine Kid or Roller Blaster
    would be better?

MD: Apart from being the Top Secret
editor, what do you mainly do in
    Majic 12?

ZZ: I'm the main organizer in Majic
    12. I swapped a lot and had a
BBS. It shut down because I sold
my HD and my Amiga. I write this
    interview on a borrowed machine.

MD: Are your group mates also your
best friends? Do you have any
    good friends in other groups!?

ZZ: The hungarian members are really
good friends, and I think we are
friends of each others with the
    foreigner divisions too.

MD: And do you keep in contact with
all the members in your group?

ZZ: Not with all. I just keep in
contact with those who write to
    me.

MD: Any BBS numbers!?

ZZ: Yes we have some BBS, but I can't
    give you numbers, just names:
OZ, No Ware Sweden, Mega Blast (I
had to think more than 15
seconds!). We have a new board in
    Norway, the SysOp is Diver.

MD: I know that you've got a modem, so
I would like to ask you a simple
question. Do you think that the
    modem is really destroying the
mail traders, or do you think that
the real problem in mail trading
    is the standard 2-line letter?

ZZ: Well my modem didn't destroy my
mail trading because it was only a
    2400bps modem. 2 line letters -
sometimes I used to write 2 lines
letters, but in the last months I
    kicked all my "hi-bye" contacts.

MD: When you get some `hot` stuff from
a contact, do you really matter
    what`s on the disk/s or what`s on
    the paper21?

ZZ: Both of them were important for
me. Now none of them are
    important for me.

MD: Is it also important to send some
    other things apart from disks
    sometimes?

ZZ: Some photos and chocolates are
    quite OK.

MD: This interview wouldn't surely be
complete if I wouldn't use this
opportunity to ask you some more
facts and things about the making
of Top Secret! All of us know
that Top Secret wasn't always a
Majic 12 production. But this mag
climbed the charts when it began
to be published by Majic 12. What
    do you think?

ZZ: The first 5 issues were published
by the Norwegian members, but at
that time they were not in Majic
    12. They were in Gentry. Then
they joined us and we took over TS
    too.

MD: Everyone says that it is very hard
to be a mag editor, because you're
    always troubled to get enough
support or articles and to have
    everything ready for the release
date. How do you usually proceed
    when planning a new issue?

ZZ: On the former issues I worked a
lot but with the last 2 issues I
just slept the whole day. You can
see the difference in quality too.
I think I've lost my inspiration.

MD: After all the hard work, the issue
    is finished. Do you immediately
continue your work on the next
one, or do you have a long break?

ZZ: I have a very long break.

MD: Everyone is saying that there are
too much mags already around, not
counting the new ones which are
being planned. But is that true?

ZZ: As I check my stuff, I have to say
that most of the former mags are
dead or late, so the mag syndrome
    is over now.

MD: Do you think that if maybe two or
more mags would join forces, they
    would stand better chances to
    produce higher quality? Did you
have any propositions by any other
    mag to join forces?

ZZ: Of course adding two mags makes a
better mag, but then the main
question is that who will release
the mag? Then it's the end of
coop. Only one group mag can
    survive.

MD: I think that at this point most of
the readers would like to know,
    your personal opinion about other
mags. Can you please give us some
brief comments on each of the
    following mags:

ZZ: HACK MAG by D-TECT:
    Looks dead, their text colours
    were a bit strange.

    I.C.E. by CYTAX:
    Quite OK.

    ZINE by BRAINSTORM:
The new routine was OK, but not on
    a standard Amiga!!

    FREEDOM CRACK by VEGA:
    Nothing special.

    CRACKER JOURNAL by DESIGN:
    Shit!

    STOLEN DATA by ANARCHY:
    The last issue was great!

    McDisk by ALCATRAZ:
    Issue 4 is great!

    FOURTH DIMENSION by CRB:
When did you get the last issue?

    GRAPEVINE by LSD:
    It's fine.

    R.A.W. by P.M.C.:
    Lord Helmet rules!

    OUTER LIMITS by POLARIS:
I saw only one issue. good
    Kraftwerk article.

    FREE`n EASY by PARAGON:
    Nothing!

    SCENE LYRICS by GRACE:
I didn't use to read novels in
    English. Anyway some Grace dudes
    are good friends of mine.

MD: Do you know of any other mag.
worth mentioning, but which is not
    listed above?

ZZ: No!

MD: After we've all read your opinion
about all your other rival mags,
how about giving us your personal
    opinion about TOP SECRET?

ZZ: Issue 8 was the greatest. Issues
    9 and 10 were accidents.

MD: Are you in contact with other mag
    editors? What's your relationship
    with them?

ZZ: I'm only in contact with Lord
Helmet. We used to send the
    latest issues to each other.

MD: What's your opinion about all
    these message centres popping
around? Most of them are also
    including articles these days, and
it seems that their future will be
that of a fully fledged mag?

ZZ: Who the hell wants to read
    messages. If I have some
    important thing for somebody than
I phone him or send him a letter.

MD: You were also one of the
    organizers of the MAJIC 12-TRSI
    Easter party. Did everything
finally turn up as you had
    planned? Were there any big
    problems in the organisation in
general? Do you think that the
    CASTLE parties can be considered
    the best organised ones in
    Hungary?

ZZ: There were too few visitors, and
the best part of the party was the
    pre-party on Friday. There were
    about 30 foreigners and Hungarian
dudes at the student hostel and we
boozed a lot. During the party
    there was nothing special. I
slept on Saturday night and at
7.00, when I went back to the
    party most of the Hungarians
started to go home with an early
train, so the party ended at
12.00. After that, we went to a
    restaurant (about 20 freaks) and
    ate the money prizes.
    Grekko/L.A. can't organize
anything! Just look on the map
and after a half hour searching
maybe you can find the party
    village. It's impossible to
reach. The castle is really a
good place, but not for an Amiga
    party.

MD: Can you tell us some of your
    future plans?

ZZ: Well next Monday I will leave
Hungary for a year and I will go
    to Huddersfield/England. It will
be a one year experience there. I
    hope it will be interesting.

MD: MAJIC 12 had really surprised
    everyone, when sometime ago, the
    incredible trio, RACK-AVANTAGE-DR.
    BULLY, began to release their
    fabulous productions. No one
    thought that a Hungarian group
could be so powerful. Did you
really expect the success that was
    awaiting you?

ZZ: Absolutely not. We know that Rack
has a big talent, but our demos
never showed big new surprises and
    things like that.

MD: I have also heard that you are
beginning to work on RAY OF HOPE
    3. Is this true? Will RACK still
do the GFX for this sequel since
he is now spending his days in the
    army?

ZZ: Yes, ROH 3 will be out sometime.
Maybe in autumn. Or I can say
that Ray of Hope 3 will be
released one day after the release
    Mental Hangover II.

MD: What about the current Amiga scene
in Hungary? Are there any hard
    working groups worth mentioning?

ZZ: Not really.

MD: MAJIC 12 and LIVE ACT are
considered to be the two best
    Hungarian groups (I think!).
    What's the relation between the
    two of you?

ZZ: We are friends and that's enough.
