@t2,04@^@t8@f09@cPRIME '92 PARTY REPORT

@f00@t1The party took place in a luxuous hall
in Riel near Tilburg during the 1st of
August! As previous PRIMES,the 92
event was a success!About 300 people
showed up and the whole organization
was good. The giant screen was
constantly sup plied with
movies,video-clips,video demos and
even pornos...For the first time,Space
Wars,the new video-demo from Tobias
Richter was showed in a party, and the
one thing we can say is that it has
astonished the whole party place... As
always,there were some problems...
First of all, many dutch lamers showed
up just to fuck the room up...like
Origin with their bloody stickers! It
was so messy that the owner asked a 200
Hfl extra fee! Many famous groups
@^

showed up like Sanity, Alcatraz,
Vision, Rebels, Silents, Desire,
Agnostic Front, Awesome, TRSI, Noxious,
Tech, Adept, Shining, Anarchy and other
more or less known like Animators,
Origin, TEK, Submission, Hardline,
Jetset, EOC 99,... Mirage released
there the brandnew CHIT CHAT but the
democompo also brought some nice
productions! Here are the results:

@t91-@t1ANIMATORS with a strange game
@t92-@t1DESIRE with Menace
@t93-@t1TECH with Digital Intoxication

Facet also released his neat mini
slideshow together with Slash and Hein
of Vision under the name FOCUSED on
@#

@t2,04
@k400,048,06

@^ART... Gothic also competeted with a
nice demo, and everything else was Load
And Destroy productions! By the
way,the spastic team of the party was
EOC 99 cause they got bashed for
Beachtro 3 during the compo as
everybody shouted GELUL IN DE
RUIMTE...it was quite funny!! A little
movie was shot during the party and the
main actors are Facet Conquest,and
Ramona...but if you can't get it,just
look for the party slideshow! There's
no better place to greet the whole
MIRAGE fleet for such a cool party and
for their great work! Special
handshake to Darkman and Kisses to
Ramona... @t4 Conquest of Anarchy

@^@f08@t1@cQuartz Summer Conference 1992

@cby Trixter of Futura

@f00@t4Most people will know that Quartz held
a party here in the UK, on August 8th &
9th, the party was called The Quartz
Summer Conference (QSC for short), Well
this is a report of that party. Of
course this is my view, if you feel
differently, then do your own report!.
This party was something special in
that it was the first real conference
here in the UK, previously, all the
parties have been 1 day events. The
party (officially) started at 10:00am
on Saturday 8th, and ended at 12:00am
(Midnight) on Sunday. It was in the
SouthWest of England in a place called
Somerset. (To people in other
countries, get an Atlas, find LONDON,
and go left (West) from there, until
@^

you hit the West coast, now go down a
bit - and that is aproximately where
the party was. (yeah that bit that
sticks out on the bottom left of the
UK, just below WALES.) We travelled
about 200 miles (322 Km for non-UK
people) from MANCHESTER (North West of
England), we actually got to the party
place about 6:00am which was too
early!, so we found the local town
(Bridgwater - not exactly local), it
had a cafe, so we got some breakfast,
and had some rest... The invitation
sheets (and inftro's) said SUNNY
Somerset - hey guys we didn't see much
sun ! We went back to the party place
at about 9:00am, and it was open, so we
un-loaded our transport and setup in
@#

@t7,02
@^@f00@t4the hall. Only about 2 other groups
were there (or at least there were only
about 2 Amigas set up) at this time, so
we set up ours, we just started doing
our own things, (I was coding on our
intro, Atrocity & Marauder were working
on a tune.), the place started to fill
up a bit, but not much (but the party
hadn't officially started yet!), so we
carried on doing our things until some
more people arrived. Until about
12:00pm (midday) nothing really
happened, except the party place slowly
filled up, oh yeah, and a little who's
sound system is the loudest war between
us and a few other groups. (which was
ended by Quartz, who told us all to
turn our amplifiers down because no-one
else could hear their sounds). As more
people started to arrive, the
atmosphere started to pick up a hell of
a lot, but a lot of the groups who had
just arrived were busy working on their
@^own releases, and so weren't really
that talkative!. About 2:00pm, trading
was well underway (sounds like the
stock-market hehe), but most of the
stuff was existing stuff, not released
at the party, because quite a few
people didn't have their releases ready
just at that time (including us!), and
a lot of people still weren't swapping
yet, then slowly at first, releases
started to appear, then just from those
first few releases, the whole place
went mad with trading all the new
releases (there wern't many at this
stage, but EVERYONE wanted a copy for
themselves), this continued into the
early evening when the GFX competition
started... Well first I'll explain the
voting system: To get a voting-form,
you had a hole punched in your ticket,
the voting form had 3 lines for your
top 3 votes, also it had a Handle and
Group line. There were 2 BIG TV's, a
@#

@t7,02
@^@f00@t4monitor and a portable TV, in a stack
all linked together to the same Amiga,
the entries were shown on these.
Everyone crowded round these screens to
get a view of the entries... During
the gfx competition, a pretty lame
thing happened... a thief stole an
action replay 3 from one of the Amigas
while everyone was looking to the
front... I won't say who it was who
stole it, because it's not my place,
but it was made public at the party, so
if you were there, you'll know (if you
were listening) who stole it, but he
had gone by this stage, and there was
no hard evidence. But of course this
wasn't Quartz's fault, it was the guy
who stole it's fault. After the gfx
comp, and the announcement of the
Action Replay theft, the normal mayhem
restarted for a while... Everyone was
asked if they would donate 50 pence to
the guy who had his Action replay
@^stolen (Kryme/Phobia I think?), about
40 pounds were raised for him. (Which
is still 20 pounds too little, but it's
better than nothing) Normal party
things happened (copying making
friends, talking etc etc...), for a
while.. The RSI demomaker competition
was announced, and they asked for
entries, but guess what - they only got
one!, I think it's because a lot of
groups (including us) would be
embaressed if it got spread!, so the
RSI-Demomaker compo was cancelled. The
next competition was the Music one, the
same voting system was used for this
compo too, I didn't vote in this
competition, because there were 17
tunes, and I was *VERY* tired, I was
sort of listening to some of the tunes,
but not paying attention to any of the
names.... Part of the way through the
music competition, all the power went
dead and the room went black, this was
@#

@t7,02
@^@f00@t4restored in a minute or so, but
apparently the power supply had been
hit by lightning, as a huge electrical
storm rages across England After a very
short and highly interrupted rest, I
felt better, and started listening to
some of the tunes (I was still really
tired), around this time it was
Hydlide/Quartz's tune, I remember
because he was really pissed, and the
other Quartz guys were taking the piss
out of his tune, and then over the
microphone, came "Its Ok everybody,
Hydlide's just been sick in the sink",
then Quartz made another funny
statement - "Hydlide is no longer a
member of Quartz",(This was only a
joke, so don't go writing it in your
news-sections, because he is still a
member) in the background to this
Hydlide could clearly be heard shouting
obsenaties. A lot of the tunes at the
end of the music compo were rave tunes,
@^some people didn't like these (Hydlides
was a Rave tune), as said earlier, I
was sleepy at this time, and so missed
the results, but I do remember Anarchy
winning the Demo Competition, with a
great demo by Paradroid called "Deja
Vu". Some people were going by this
time (even though it was a 2 day party,
there were a lot of BORING people who
left in the first night), some people
were just going out to camp, stay
somewhere etc, but some left. Quite a
few people who had been there earlier,
had gone after a while. In the night
the demo-competition entries were shown
(but not voted on yet), Please note, I
have only given a few coders names, not
the rest of the team who worked on the
demo, also I have forgotten some of the
coders ('coz of bad memory, and I
didn't plan to originally do this
report, so didn't write down the
results) The first was a rather poor
@#

@t7,02
@^@f00@t4(sorry guys, but thats the way I feel)
intro (?) - the intro had a few sine
waves and circles made of dots, on a
copper list colour faded red screen,
and that was about it for the first
entry.. Paradroid/Anarchy's DEJA VU
was shown, and a lot of people already
reckoned that this one would win,
because this had quite a few nice
effects in it, filled circles on normal
filled vectors, etc, generally nice
effects.. Ranx/Quartz had a demo up as
well, this tells the story of a
polluted earth, and a colony of people
who go off to find a new planet to live
on, but theres a twist, they end up
back on earth due to a faulty take
off... this was a good demo, after the
story part, some other effects come on,
like a stencilled colour cycling scroll
etc Majic Mushroom/Quartz had a demo up
too, this has some nice effects like
pixel plasma, sine dots, etc etc EOC
@^1999 - Entered a demo (I think so
anyway), I can't remember too much
about this apart from that it had some
normal standard type effects in it...
After the demo compo-preview, I got
some sleep across some chairs.... I
don't know what time it was when I
finally woke up, because the actual
hall had no windows and the lights were
still on. I can't remember the exact
order of events from here on, so they
may be in a different order to the way
they happened. The Demo competition
started, with the same voting system as
the other compos, where everyone
watched the demos again, yet again, I
don't remember all of the results
exactly:

@t61. Deja Vu           by Anarchy
2. Dynamic Illusions by Quartz
3. Divine Madness by Quartz
@#

@t7,02
@^@f00@t4I missed the football and Tug-of-war
competitions, because we went to get
some (Real) Coke and other snacks from
one of the only local stores... I did
see the disk throwing compo though, it
was held on a big field at the back of
the party place, well you know how this
competition works (everyone stands at
one end of a field, and people take
turns in throwing disks, the disk that
goes the furthest towards the other end
of the field wins - simple) Some people
tried using just standard disks, others
were using branded disks, cutting
pieces off the disk, melting stones to
disks etc etc. Most of the extra
things that people tried made the disks
go no further than usual, the guy who
people thought would win (the one who
had the furthest throw so far) was
pretty well built, and normal sized,
etc, now the last competitor (I think),
was a little guy about 14 years old,
@^and guess what everybody - he won, it
shows that the tecnique matters more
than the muscle power! The party
started to cool down somewhat as the
day progressed, until about 7 o'clock
when there were only about 3 groups
there (Us, Quartz, Digital and
Paradroid/Anarchy!), we left at 7
o'clock to set off on our journey
home....

@t1OTHER THINGS
@t4The    darts    and    9-pin   skittles
tournaments didn't appear to take place
(unless we missed them) The snacks and
cooked foods didn't happen properly on
the Saturday because the caterers
didn't turn up or something, but every
hour, someone would go out to the
MacDonalds a few miles away, and would
take orders from everyone who wanted
food, since this was every hour, it
wasn't that bad. Also Quartz were
@#

@t7,02
@^@f00@t4selling cheap crisps (potatoe chips),
cans of cola (not the real one though),
and cans of Quartz(!) lager. On the
Sunday, there were 2 old women with a
cooker supplying food for us hungry
people, there was standard stuff,
burgers, toast, sausages etc.., also
they were supplying drinks like coffee,
and tea. The bar was in a seperate
door, so you had to go out of the main
hall to the outside, and then in
another door to the bar. In the bar
was the only phone (that we knew of),
pinned up on the phone were some 0800
numbers relating to the party, set up
by Quartz (to non UK people 0800
numbers are toll free numbers), one of
the numbers was a party hotline where
you could get details of who won what
compo, what was happening etc... The
other line was - an abortion helpline
set up by them - hmmmm - I wonder if
they payed to set the numbers up ? -
@^hm phreakety phreak eh? The power
supply was nice and strong, and so we
had no cut-outs (apart from when we
were struck by lightning).

@t1IN SUMMARY
@t4Overall a good fun party, but not
enough people were able to make it,
this isn't Quartz's fault, it's just
that a lot of people were on holiday,
also some people even had tickets, but
their transport failed at the last
minute. Not many lamers were there, OK
there were a number of the SMALL groups
there, as well as the bigger ones, but
I think that nearly every group
released something, from a tiny intro
to a full track-demo. Also because of
the general atmosphere of the party,
people were more open and willing to
talk to each other and make friends,
this is one of the critiscisms of the
Anarchy Party 92 that people had, that
@#

@t7,02
@^

@f00@t4people were only talking to their
contacts and immediate friends, and not
touring and making friends with
everybody... The UK scene has had a
real conference now, even though some
who came were treating it like a one
day party, some people that we knew of
that left earlier hadn't come as far as
we had, but still left on the Saturday
night. I suppose that the more
conferences we have here in the UK, the
more used to them people will become.
If this conference had more people who
were willing to stay for the full 2
days, I think it would have been one of
the best UK parties so far.. Some
groups who were there include (not
every group is listed, because I don't
know of every group there):
@^

@t6Anarchy   (only 1 - Paradroid!!)
Crystal (only 1 I think - Tripwire)
Cybernetix
Damage
Delicious design
Destiny
Dianetix
Digital
Dimension-X (2 - Ghost and Gemini)
EOC 1999
Futura (only 3 out of our 8!)
LSD
Lunatics
Phobia
Plasma
Quartz (obviously!)
Silents (There were about 2 there)
The Lodge

@#

@t7,02
@^
@f00@t4No doubt there were probably more
groups there, but people not wearing
name badges, and groups without posters
and signs, and people we didn't chat to
meant we don't know of everyone who was
there. Two of the DIGITAL guys were
from Germany!! (did you come over
especially for the party ?) As said
earlier, a good party, well worth the 4
pounds entrance price, which is only
one pound more than the entrance price
of most 1 day parties!, all thats left
to say is - see you at the next party
(probably the DIGITAL one in October) -
come over and have a chat if you do
go!, (look out for our new T-Shirts and
posters) Hope you enjoyed this report,
if not - tough - write your own! Just
before I go, I must just welcome our
two new members:
