Interview with TMB Designs/SILENTS TMB Designs was interviewed by SHADE of FANATIC in March 1992. SD: Could you please tell all readers a bit about yourself? (Age, name) TS: Well, my name is Tore (Among friends). I am 17 years old, I am doing graphics for Silents and I live in Norway. I usually spend my time watching films and listening to music. SD: Have you ever had any other machine? Have you been a graphic artist all the time or have you done something else in the past? TS: I've had, and I still have a C64. So when I get the "KICK", I go and play "Snoopy" - The original version. No seriously, I never use the C64 any more, but it is no use selling it, 'cause I would not get enough cover for the Ad. In the deep past, I also tried to make music, but I failed. Though, I've never even tried to be a coder, and I am maybe a bit to lazy (and too intellectual??) to be a swapper. SD: Tell us something about your life in the scene, and what other groups you have been a member of? TS: Do you really want to know this? I have erased my past, and stand without any memories of this dark period of my life. (Ain't that a sneaky way of avoiding the question?!?) SD: Do you like being in Silents, or is there something you want to change? TS: TSL is great, and a great deal of that honour must go to the man putting it all together: Animal. (Way to go Frederik!) If it was something I wanted to change, then I guess it would have stayed inside the group. SD: How do you start a picture, and from were do you get the inspiration to start working on a new one? TS: This is an impossible question, since I never start a picture in the same manner. The only thing that is common to all my graphics is that I always listen to music while drawing. SD: What kind of equipment do you use? TS: A lousy A500, 1084 screen, DF1, printer and big speakers. (AVANCE RULES) SD: What kind of real music do you like? Why? TS: Jimi Henrix, Doors, R.E.M, Sting, Pink Floyd, Miles, PE, almost all kind of music. It depends on the mood I am in. Why? I don't know. There must have been some mistake at that baby clinic! SD: Name you favourite gfx artist. What is it with this guy's work that fascinates you? TS: Hmmm... There is many great ones, but I guess UNO is the best. He's just got this kinda "perfect" style. I do also think that Bustman is number one, (Jaha, Trond!) because of his unique style. (Which some others have tried to copy, but failed. No names!) SD: Do you like parties? What is the best party you have ever been to? TS: I hope we're both referring to copy parties? I think that this is a good way of meeting people, getting impulses, etc. I have not been to many parties, but since I meet many people at the CRB - VLN and DXN party, which now is some of my best friends, I think I'll pick that one. SD: What is your opinion about the scene in general? TS: The scene is maybe getting too big, too many "game bargers", and "all" the legends are quitting or just working half time. There are far too many shitty releases, or maybe I'm getting nephrotic? But I do think that the scene is great anyway, what da hell!!! SD: I have heard some rumours saying that Silents will start cracking. Is this really true? TS: No comment!! SD: Have you ever thought of buying a modem? What do you think about today's modem scene? TS: Nope, no modem, and I will not give any comments to something I do not know very much about. SD: Since you are a true movie freak, what kind of films do you enjoy most, and please name your favourite? Why? TS: I don't know my favourite, but I love Goodfellas, Cape Fear, and I totally adore Shining (The true thrill). Also Deerhunter, 37,5 Le Matin, Le grand bleu are great. I also seem to like Robocop, and last, but not least Hellraiser. SD: What is the future plans for Silents? Will you do the graphics for some of the soon coming prods? TS: Power productions are on their way, but I can not tell anything about them. I will do graphics for some. (Wait and see till the Easter party in Norway!) SD: That's all! Do you want to say some last words, or maybe greet somebody? TS: Yep, if someone happened to read the interview in Top Secret #9, I must say that the picture of me was taken 5 years ago, and it was just a joke from Estrup/STB to send it with the interview, coz I forgot to add an updated photo! Any creative people could try this number: +47-4-520768 (Tore) for exchanging, old summer memories or used stamps. And by the way, thanks for interviewing me. TSL - When Words are not enough
