GERP party report by Malmix/Nature Here's a small report from the Amiga centric demo party GERP 2016 held between the 2nd and the 4th of September. The party was held at 'Kulturhuset Valhall' (culture center) in Skovde and arranged by the groups Traktor and Nature, both having their headquarter's in this otherwise frequently rated as Sweden's most boring town. Around 80 people showed up to the event. A majority of the visitors were Swedes, but some international guests also showed up. Among them were Bifat/TEK who by his presence became the first non-nordic visitor in the close to 15 years old history of GREP/Gerp parties! The demo group Insane was represented with around ten members and scooped nice party ranks and prices in all Amiga-related competitions. Among the visitors, there were also members from groups such as Tulou, Ephidrena, Loonies, Pacif!c, UpRough, Planet Jazz, Focus Design, Scoopex, The Gang and Nukleus. The Friday offered social cozy'ing and creative fiddles on products. The day ended with "fast music"-compo where the goal was to compose a 4-channel module with a set of premade samples during one hour. The result widely spread with quality and funny entries. Winner was Corpsicle/Insane (who got a free beer for his nice contribution). The Saturday started off with breakfast for those who hadn't already filled their stomachs with hotel breakfast. Chucky/The Gang repaired hardware with a glowing and glueing passion so the capacitors rained all over the place. One or two beers were consumed and the nice party atmosphere of course reached its peak during the evening when it was time for music- , graphics- and demo compos. Focus Design defended their Amiga-demo title well deserved with "Aulun Baulund" and for the third time got their name carved (dymo-printed) into the trophy. Bitflipper from Insane and Rebels won graphic compo with a magnificent Amiga 500 picture. The music compo were dominated by a handful of musicians namely Wasp/Pacif!c, Obbe/Traktor, Mygg/Insane, Tecon/Planet Jazz and Alpaidus/Insane who all achieved good ranks in at least two categories. Most successful was Wasp winning chip music compo and also winning the 4-channel compo in coop with Obbe. Two modern demos (even if released on 30 years old hardware) were released in the "other platform" compo. Panda Design won with their c64-demo with social media as topic and Five Finger Punch snatched the second best with a Spectra video-demo with Pokemon Go topic. The Sunday morning also started off with a small breakfast before the prize cermony. After that it was time to go home. All in all it was a great party and it is pretty likely that it will take place again next year. See you then, all demo-maniacs! Malmix
