    The Icing'96 Party Report

......................................

24 of May.

12.05.. Just spoke with a old friend
of mine on the phone, Orbit / Giants.
Everything is already packed except
for my trustworthy Amiga of coz and
I'm dying here while waiting for the
time to move faster. Wizard /
Giants^Morbid^ Strange and Lillen /
Independent is going with me in the
car and since I have to wait for them
It's no use leaving home untill 16.45
or so.

14.25.. Changed my prefs a bit so now
I'm running workbench in 32 glorious
colors with a Strangelogo in the
background. To bad I 'aint got a
multisynk- monitor. T'would be nice
having a flickerfree hireslace
workbench. Still a few hours left
until it's time to leave, I have to
come up with something to do b4 I go
mad. Leaving alone without my pal's
would get me to the party faster but
then I'd probably be killed when the
party is over.

21.16.. Finally here at the Icing and
my computer is operational at last.
Had to stand in line in about 45
minutes before I got in and could pick
a table. But now everything is just
fine, I had my first coke and some
candy to calm my nerves. The
organizers have still not realised
that people like to see what's what on
the keyboard. The lights are a little
better then last year but not much,
the music the organizers are playing
isn't as loud as last year but on the
other hand the other dewds here have
brought a bit more soundpower this
year. Orbit / Giants and Wizard /
Gts^Str^Mrb are still standing in
line, we arrived here 'bout 20.02.

21.53.. Though I should go and buy a
tshirt ( 4got b4 ), walked away and
almost stright back. There's still a
que with 'bout 40 people standing in
line waiting to get in.

25th of May.

00.50.. Tried to do some constructive
work but apart from a little more for
the game "Destroyer of Hope" and a
.guide of my harddrive demos. The
music in here is simply to loud, I
think I'm going to toast some
sandwitches. My stomach is reminding
me that the last thing i ate was b4 I
left home.

03.25.. Got some new modules, swapped
them 4 Nemac_4+ and Prowizard. I
think I'll have to sleep a hour or two
in a hour or so, I'm starting to get
tired. Must be getting older 'coz I
never used to be this tired at a
party.

05.49.. Been watching four computer
here and got a visit from Coma, got
some new mods and started thinking
'bout a small chippack with his and
Spin Dizzy's mods.

10.02.. Had almost forgotten about
this report. Slept an hour or so in
the sleepinghall b4, some dewds were
snoring ( I hope I didn't ) quite loud
and 'coz o that I had some trouble in
the beginning. Perhaps it's time to
make some breakfast. I don't regret
that I brought my toaster, in just a
few minutes I have a VERY tasty meal.

22.27.. Me and Orbit borrowed a cd32
and made some transfers with the aid
of a communicator. Dataworld ( 2nd at
Tp5 Wildcompo is now almost unpackeed
and ready to run. 'bout 80 Mb of
space is what it takes but hey, I've
got some to spare now. At the moment
the bloody organizers have allowed
some jerkoff to enter the stage with
something that faintly resembles of a
band. They make more noice then music
and I DONT LIKE IT! I just want to
see Dataworld and then get a few hours
of sleep, not listen to some crappy
musicans. The communicator is a nice
gadget but I can't help wondering why
they made it connect to the serial
port instead of PcmCia or even the old
expantion slot on the a500. I never
got more then 3100 chars / Sec, I
usually get 3200+ when trading so I'm
a little suprised by the lousy
transfer rates.

26th of may.

05.09.. Got a few hours of sleep and
have seen Dataworld, it's damn
impressive but still just a lot of
raytraced animations. Darn good
animations though. Tried a cd32
joypad for the first time and now I'm
convinced, when my joystick wears out
I'm going to buy a cd32 joypad. I
think I want to try and get a few more
hours alseep since I'm going to drive
a car tomorrow. It might be a good
idea to be awake then.

10.26.. Still here at the icing,
lot's o stuff is delayed but the
Amigascene jeopardy will prob soon bee
played anyway. There have been a few
brownouts but I must have slept
through them. But I just cant stand
all the nerds here who don't look
where they are going. The cables that
supply the power I need is constanly
being stepped on and the one to the
monitor must have jumped out of the
socket at least a dozen times so far.

11.29.. Musiccompo just recently,
some trouble of coz but I am to tired
to really care. Coma entered with one
of his works. I think he'll come
first to third with it. Anything
lower is out of the question.
Unpacked some of the stuff I got from
Cd's. Some good, some lousy and the
bigger part of it in between.

12.30.. Thought 'bout buying a
cdromplayer, they are selling 6x ones
for 670 Sek here at the icing. Would
be great but I'll wait a while longer
b4 I buy one.

14.35.. Multichannelcompo is
happening right now as I write. The
Scenejeopardy have still not taken
place ( should have been finished
yesterday ). Seems like I still
cannot concentrate on bizniz, I've
tried to write some articles for
Gossip but my mind seems to be blank
at the moment. On the other hand I've
made four battlefields to Worms,
mastered Speedball2 and spent a few
minutes with Settlers again, old but
great.

19.48.. The Amigascenejeopardy have
just finished and Orbit is badgering
me coz he want a partyreport in
Braindamage. 4ch, Multichannel and
64k intro compos have also taken place
in addition to suprisecompos such as
Robyn lookalike, Icingjingle,
Icinglogo and some others. The PeZe
scene jeopardy did not take place coz
the competence among the wouldbe
contenders was ZERO! ( Acctually one
of the questions in the Amigascene
jeopardy ). In the end everyone lost
their points even if I have to agree
with my friend Ant / 3Le that a quote
was from The prey instead/and?
Nexus7. Oh well, it was funny at
least. I can see Tbl from here, their
64k was good and I'm hoping for
another Tint in the democompo later.

20.06.. Someone turned on the lights
at last, but after a few days of
almost complete darkness ( 'xept for
the monitors/tv's and some weak lights
) I already hear complaining but I
rather like it, perhaps people will be
able to see the cables before ripping
out the one to my monitor. I can't
understand why the lights haven't been
throwing their shining light over us
all the time. Perhaps the organizers
think it's to expensive.

20.38.. Someone turned the lights off
a few minutes after they were turned
on. A few more hours left and then
it's time for the democompo. After
that one should be able to get
something more then music and 64k
intros.

21.39.. Someone is looking on a
tvshow with Robert Gustavsson, one of
my personal favourites in Swedish
humor. A small crowd have gathered to
see, I can't really tell from here but
I think the small tv has a larger
crowd then the bigscreen. Of coz
there 'aint much going on on the
bigscreen but anyway. Talked to Ant /
3Le, another of my contacts, he was
one of the dewds in the
AmigasceneJeopardy compo. Nobody won
as I already wrote above. Still
waiting for the democompo, t'would bee
nice with some fresh demos to fill up
the mail with. I brought both
envelopes, my mail and stamps so I
could mail a few letters from here but
I did not count with how fucking tired
I have become almost b4 I even got
hold of some shit to send. I've
started taking mininaps, sleep in my
chair for just a few minutes. It
acctually works, after a few hours
sleep one is still tired but after a
mininap you're still able to think and
act ( Almost ) coherently. Damn but
I've noticed that I've acctually
started to enjoy the noice in here, I
caught myself humming and beating
along on the table while thinking of
what to write next. Soon I'll prob
start turning off the lights at home
and replace them with candles.

22.25.. Acctualy managed to do
something for a change, I wrote a text
'bout How to organize a bad party. I
felt inspired by some troubles here at
the Icing even if this certainly is a
GREAT party. I'm still at two minds
about the best party I've ever been
to, The EuropeanComputerConference'93
was the first and until Icing96 the
best I've ever been to. I'm not THAT
sure anymore even if I still think ECC
was better. My memory might be a
little clouded by age though. When I
see nostalgic demos and old demos on
bigscreen I feel older then I am. It
makes me feel like a relic from the
dark ages, before aga equipped amigas,
cpu's better then 68000 16MHz and
software that required more then one
megabyte of memory. i can still
remember when 90% of all software
could be used with an a500 with 512kb
chipram. After a while you almost had
to have 512Kb "fast" as well. No, I
almost have to get some sleep now, in
13 hour's or so I have to be able to
drive a car 300 kilometers in order to
get home again.

27th of may.

06.35.. Well, nobody woke me up in
time for the democompo so I missed
that one, tried to look at Balance's
demo but got the mezz not 'nuff
memory. Will try with the 3le demo
after I have written this. Got some
sleep at last and I'm now feeling
rather good. Also got myself a Icing
t-shirt, I didn't have time b4 and
when I had time I thought they were
sold out. Oh well, I now have one and
I got it 20 Sek cheaper. I'm going to
print out a Hawk of Strangelogo in
school and iron it on the t-shirt.

07.03.. Checked out two of the demos,
Freak by balance and Tribe 3le. Freak
demands a whole lot of memory, I had
to turn off some of my partitions in
order to see it. 'twas good but I've
seen much better, Tribe on the other
hand was quite good. Not as
impressive as The Gate or Tint though.
I'm starting to get tired again, I can
hardly see whats going on on the
bigscreen anymore. It might bee best
if I try to get a few more hours of
sleep before I try to handle a car.
Braindamage still not ready and both
Wierd and a commercial for Gossip is
delayed. Dunno if either of the three
is going to bee released before this
party is over.

10.30.. I have now seen most of the
demos and I must say that even if
3le's demo was good and they deserve a
high ranking it's plain that they won
becoz they have a lot of friends who
voted for them. Glow by The Black
Lotus was much better and should have
won without a doubt if people voted
for quality. This is the last entry
as it's almost time to start packing.
I must say that it have been a GREAT
party, I feel sorry for everyone who
did not go. Icing is THE best Swedish
sceneevent and I'll certainly go next
year too and I hope to see all of you
there then. Perhaps we'll meet at the
Summer Computer Conference b4 Icing97.

Hawk / Strange^Why greets everyone at
the party, all my contacts and friends
and of coz my trustworthy a1200.
