AN INTERVIEW WITH MOP OF ESSENCE BY PANTERA OF GODS * Pantera * Mop Good evening Mop, and thanks for letting us interview you. Like most of us know, you are the editor of the disk magazine ROM, published by Essence and The ROM Team. Besides that, we would like to know your deepest thoughts and who you really are. Why don't we begin with the introducing part as always... Age, length, weight... Pretend that this is a contact advertisment for a paper magazine... 24 years, fat programmer, shy editor. That's more than enough to make a Mop. Now, when we know your looks we would like to know if you have any other interests beside the computer... When the ROM master decides to untie the rusty chain that restrics my movements to my editorial chair, I spend my time collecting postcards, and doing the usual things, all you like to do, which I'm not going to tell... I'm sure many of us have wondered how you got into the computer world since you live in the small exotic island Malta. And do you happen to know if there are any other sceners on Malta? Fortunately there are other sceners on this lonely island, but they are far too few for my taste. Sometime in 1989, I decided to buy an A500, noted some addresses from the crack intros of those time, and started my way into the scene. Which are your former groups and give us a short story of each group, why did you leave them, and also a story of your handle Mop... In English it means broom, but in Dutch it's a joke; Unfortunately these are not the reasons of my name's origins. The three letters, M, O and P stand for something, but no one has ever guessed what do they really stand for! In the past I have been a member of Coma and Alcatraz, before having found the EssEncE of computer life. I joined Coma because of Mc Disk. Coma died, and the other members dragged me into Alcatraz where I continued working on Mc Disk, and started Compass. After seeing no more challenge in being in a known group like Alcatraz, I decided to join these poor and miserable beings of EssEncE! You seem to be doing well in Essence these days. What are your future plans for the scene and for the real life. I just plan to continue releasing ROM, and working for the ROM Team's benefit. Apart from that, I would like to get married as soon as possible, and make 2 children. One of the more common questions again... What kind of hardware do you have? A1200 with a 200Mb hard drive, a High Density floppy drive, and a copying machine called A500. You have been in the scene for a quite long time. What do you think of the scene's development through the years? Do you think that it was better in the eighties? Way back, in the very beginning, everything was so simple and straight forward. Design didn't exist, and Mental Hangover topped the EuroCharts. Then groups grew fatter, parties got better, and the scene suddenly turned into a professional activity. How does a typical day look like for you? Do you work or do you study all day long? For 8 hours a day, I have to develope programms for large companies. For 1 hour a day, I have to make ROM. The rest is quite previdible, no? Ever had thoughts of leaving the Amiga scene for another machine? Or just got bored of it? The PC has occupied 8 hours of my daily life. Atari is a boring platform. What else? Why do you want me to leave the scene? We want to hear your favourite... Demo: Arte, Sequential Music disk: Viktoria, Memorial Songs Slideshow: Never Liked Uno Graphician: Cougar, Fade One, Archmage Musician: LizardKing, Interphace, Virgill Swapper: Andy Coder: Not Touchstone! Editor: Map of TESSENSE Party: "ROM IS FINNISHED" celebration Group: Essence, Andromeda, VD Movie: The Mask Actor: Eddie Murphey Actress: Tiffani Amber Food: pasta Drink: Milk Music: Dance Another silly question, if you would win 1 dollar err... 1 million dollars, where would you spend it? In a national ROM advertising campaign. What goals are you trying to achieve with ROM and how much time do you spend writing articles. With ROM, I would like to make the scene consider it's more serious side. Usually I spend 1 hour a day, collecting and editing words into sentences. Now I will say one word at a time, and you must write the first thing that comes to your mind. Liar: SceMology Sun: Cranky Phonecalls Copy: X Friends: only a dozen or so real ones. Write: for ROM? Love: You feel great when you fall in it. Dreams: Virtual? Best: charts Arrogant: SceMarium Rain: not today, please! Scene: underestimated Interviews: time consuming Boring: PC Well, I guess that our readers now know a bit more about you, Noel, after reading this small interview. I want to thank you for the precious time, you spent answering these questions. Now you may write whatever you want... Remember tO Meditate.
