Interview with Tsunami/Virtual Dreams Done by Colorbird/Razor 1911 C: Thats Colorbird! T: Thats Tsunami ! C: Hiho Tsunami! How about starting this interview by asking you the normal question. Please tell us about your non-scene life, like age, name, weight, fave vodka, sexual preference or whatever... T: Well, my real name is Timo Aila and I'm currently 19. I'm nowadays studying in University of Technology in Helsinki. And if someone really cares, my natural measures are about 180/75. My favourite beer is undoubtedly Danish Tuborg (aahh, just can't wait TP III!) Vodka just suxx, still haven't found any decent tasting ones... Girls are of coz a big interest for me, too bad all non-finnish parties are held in small villages without wild night-life;-) C: So how has your scene career been so far , please tell us about it ? T: Hmmm... At the beginning I tried as a graphician for quite a short moment, but then I started to learn some basics of coding. That was about 2 years ago. The beginning was quite a misery, bcoz I had no books or teachers, but little by little it started to work out. Since then I've been a coder. Teams in the chronological order: Omega, Spaceballs, Black Robes, VD. The only gfx I do nowadays, is test-gfx for my routines. C: You are quite new on the charts and I have talked to several people watching your demos that you are one of the most promising coders right now. What do you say about that ? T: I'm of coz happy, if there are people thinking that way! Hope I will be able make it better every time I release something. It's just up to ideas now... C: You are also selling your own source code for your productions ? Are you not afraid that others may use your sources to become famous ? T: Yes, I'm selling sources of all my -released- routines. And because I've already released those routines, I don't really care if someone else releases the same routine again afterwards. And still they cannot make them better without rewriting the whole routine again, bcoz the latest routines have been optimized to the limits. And it also can be quite useful for beginning coders to get to know all kinds of optimization hints. I don't forbid guys buying sources to use them. It's better this way, than those guys ripping them! C: Are you coding on any game or ? T: Not yet. But I very probably will start some day! C: Could you, if I gave you some name of other coders, please tell us what you think of them and their products ? Chaos/Sanity - A big favourite! Probably the best coder on the scene nowadays. As I'm a coder, I wanna see prods with hardcore coding and that's something he really offers. I just hope that "Broken Promises" will be released some day... I mean that it isn't just a rumour like "World of Vodka". (remember?) Many great prods like Elysium, Jesterday, OF, WOC. It's rather hard to say anything about him as a person, bcoz I've never met him. Laxity/Kefrens - The Desert Dream demo is sure one of the best demos around! But I still think Laxity should be the number 1 as a "demo maker", but not number one as a coder... Since f.exp. DD contains lots of nice routines, but not much really stunning code. You know, routines that make you really think how it's possible to do that. He is among the best ones but still not like Chaos or Hannibal. Very good music in Desert Dream! Lone Starr/Spaceballs - Another good demo maker! State of the Art is probably the best demo to show for a non-scene guys. BUT, like I said, I love to see hardcore code and Lone Starr has shown just one good inconvex routine. How can a guy be rated as one of the best coders according to one vector routine??? If he really is 15 (as he looks like) he's just amazing compared to his age. I think he's one of those coders who consider himself as a best in the Universe. But great ideas he has! Hopefully his coming demo will introduce something new again. Anyway, he's ranked far too high! Dan/Lemon. - Well, maybe he was a good one couple of years ago.. But obviously coders have progressed a lot and Dan is quite outdated now. For example I really don't see, why to release Groovy! Paradroid had just released the same routines (in Rink A Dink) before, and now Dan just made them a bit slower. It would have been quite a good 40k intro, but as a trackmo it was total nothingness. He lacks the optimization. Highly overrated as a coder. Azatoth/Phenomena - Well, not much to say... Just a big congratulation for him, bcoz Enigma works just fine on A1200. Pretty good for a demo that was released about 3 years before A1200;-) Hannibal/Lemon. - A madly working fellow? Has released hell of a lot good productions during the last years. He usually has some nice ideas. I honestly conseder him to be one of the two best coders around! Hoping to see 3D demo 3 in TPIII, is it really a 40k intro? If so, the intro compo will be tuff! C: Who do you think should be on the #1 position as a coder ? T: Whether Hannibal or Chaos, hard to say... We will see the truth on The Party III, at least I hope so. Both of them are going to release something, and since Chaos haven't released anything for a year he might have someting BIG to show. but who knows... C: What are your plans for the future (in the scene) ? T: A 40k intro for TPIII compo. Hopefully I'll have enough time to code that one. And a new issue of 'Suomen Lista'. I'm also planning to buy an A4000/40 soon... If I do, I probably will code a demo for it (maybe with Skull) to really show what Amiga can do! The processor is almost 30 times faster than A500, so that makes possible to realize my bigger ideas. The time will tell... I just have some bigger A500 ideas in petto, but I have no time to code them to TP III intro ---> conclusion: maybe a new prod in the near future. Hope none releases them on TP III! C: Well, thank you for this interview! Is there anything else you wish to say ? T: Can I have that bottle again, please?? Hellos to all friends around the globe. C U all in The Party III! OK?
