INTERVIEW WITH SPACEBRAIN / UPFRONT Interview with Spacebrain of UPFRONT Done by Wolfman / BALANCE (BLC = Wolfman / BALANCE) (SPB = Spacebrain / UPFRONT) Spacebrain is one of the guys who for a short time ago joined the old group UPFRONT with a couple of other dudes. Will these new members breath life to the old group which was quite inactive for over a year, we'll try to find out! BLC: Hi Spacebrain please introduce yourself to the readers. Age, name etc. SPB: Yep! My real name is Thomas Williams and my age is 20 years. My name sounds English, but I'm 'Pæredansk' HeHe... I love good music, good Demo's And GOOD parties !!! BLC: And what is it that you do in UPFRONT?! SPB: I'm Musician and Modemtrader.. Hope some people on the scene wouldn't doubt it?? The last thing I mentioned.. I started doing it for just 3 months ago ..and with great succes together with Deature. BLC: When did you begin to be active in the scene? SPB: I started to buy an Amiga for about 3 years ago (after 4 good years with C64 and Amstrad.) Then I started in Inzzest, the only group I really started to know.. after 9 month we changed name to 'Trivium', but it was a slow group, so I got into Upfront with Deature, Craft and MSC. I have been active on the scene for about 1.5 year. BLC: What do you think about the scene? SPB: I think it's rough, it's hard being taken seriously, but its amazing to see what other peole do ..and thoze great demo's and stuff. BLC: When did you start composing music on the Amiga SPB: I've composed my first music in SONIX (bvadre #@^?), then I got Noisetracker, ran into a couple of VIRUS'es....I didn't knew better, I had to learn not to trust other freaks, when copying their disks! ..and THEN I lost SONIX. I wasn't for long, then I got PROTRACKER,and all further updates. I've used the program for a year and making music in all for about 1½ year. BLC: What kind of music do you like to compose most then? SPB: It's New-wave, Techno/wave-style and different kinds of stuff like that ...Especially music inspired of other great artists (Jarre especially), Mike Oldfield, Depeche Mode, Jan Hammer, Mark Knofler, Pink Floyd, Metallica and so on... BLC: When did you begin to have interest for music? SPB: Oh I think I grew up with it. I never lived a place with no piano, key board, or somethin' like that.. I started to go to a teacher when I was 8 years old. Stopped after 7 years... Playing classic music was to boring to learn.. BLC: What do you think about ripping of samples? Is it fair that people get pissed because someone used their samples? SPB: I don't rip samples of other demo's or tunes from other people on the scene, BUT gametunes can be used ..I better like 2 sample my own sounds from keyboard and CD's BLC: What equipment do you have for your Amiga? SPB: 650 Disks, 2 extra drives (5¼ " incl.), a PHILIPS 8833, An A500 with a lot of extra switches ...I love switches !?.., a Printer and a Modem (With Deature, it's not mine ...but it's my phonebill HeHeHe. ) BLC: Who/what is your favorite? SPB: Musician: Mantronix, Moby And Walkman Graphian: Rookie I guess.. Don't really know! Coder: Spy and a lot of other good coders on the scene. Demo: Hardwired of'coz Musicdisk: Crystal Symphonies I and Mirror (Andromeda) Scene-country: Denmark OF' COZ !!!! The One And Only... BLC: One must admit that UPFRONT has been rather silent in the past year. Do you feel that it will change now that you and some other new members have joined? SPB: I think It will go a lot better in the next future months... Every group needs new members in some time!!! BLC: What can we expect from UPFRONT in 1993? SPB: a musicdisk, a demo and a lot of intros hopefully... BLC: How many members is in UPFRONT? I have heard that there are about 10 coders or so, is that true? SPB: About 18-20 persons... (14 of them are coders !!!) BLC: How do you feel about being in UPFRONT? Is it any different than any other groups you know? SPB: Maybe.. But I was very busy in Trivium thinking of to be sure that the other persons in Trivium were doing anything !! BLC: Okay, everything must have an end and the same thing goes for this inter- view. Anyone you want to say hello to here on the edge? SPB: I really don't now ? ..Maybe Jesper Kyd : I think it is a great tune you made for the next Music Disk Sound Of Silents II ...You may use theze munksounds another time again...sounds great. Brainiac/Nitro where have you been the last half a year ?? Didn't find you at The Party II last year.. BLC: ...and some last words maybe? SPB: I think it's great to watch a lot of other newcoming talented Musicians on the scene...Sorry they got dis- sapointed in the musiccompetition at The Party II, (They should play every module in about 5-6 minutes...but they've only been played for max. 3 minutes) But I hope there will be held a lot of other small parties in the next future time.
