INTERVIEW WITH MAGIC/NAH KOLOR

We  reached one of the best editors in
the scene , to ask him several  things
about diskmags, Internet, the scene in
general.  I  hope  you  all will enjoy
this  interview as I did  while making
it!


ST: Well ,  Magic ,  please  introduce
yourself...

AN: Well I am Magic of Nah-kolor,(20),
and  I am in the  scene from 6 years..
Before that I was on the C= 64..

ST:In which group have you been ? tell
us your scene career..

AN: I was in  Exotic, Unit 4, Xentrix,
Cyanide , Applause , Mirage , Trsi  to
finally end up in Nah-kolor.
And I am in The RAW staff too.

ST: We know that you founded Nah-Kolor
with Dreamer.. may we expect something
great  from  you  guys  in  the   next
future ?

AN: Well......   I   think    creating
expectations  is not a  wise thing  to
do...  But  I  can  reveil  that   the
slideshow of Lazur will   be  released
under Nah-kolor , and that a demo will
be ready for  The Intel  Outside Party
1996.
Personally I am  working  on a best of
Article  disk , and  I  guess  Dreamer
wants a new music disk ;) (Kurwa!)
Ofcourse  we  will  compete in several
competitions this  year  individually.
Like Music compo, or gfx compo.

ST: We  are sure  you  will  :)    You
entered  the charts  as  best  editor,
what  do  you think about the diskmags
scene thesedays ?

AN: Well ,  I  think  that all the old
editors  ( Like  Lord Helmet ,  Mount,
Cybersonik etc. )  are not that active
these  days...  But  there   are   new
diskmagazines  released  this  year...
Though,with the internet hype,it's too
easy to make a magazine nowdays!
(Like No Sense, or the new magazine by
Haujobb).

ST: Yes, for sure.  And about Internet
or IRC.Would you think IRC will change
the scene ? in which way ?

AN: I  could  refer  to  my article in
elsewhere   in   this mag ( Internet 2
Survive) but in short: 'Demogroups are
oldfashioned nowdays' 
Look  at  The Black Lotus  ( the first
Internet based group! ) just take some
talented people  from the net, and you
have  a really breathtaking demo in no
time!

ST: Internet  changed our way of being
sceners... but the old snap mail seems
to keep on. Are you willing to keep on
swapping or will you limit yourself to
Irc Dcc chats?

AN: Well ,  the  internet  parted  the
scene.  You have people who have acces
to  the net , and you have people  who
don't. The people who do, have the big
advantage of daily communication! This
will straighten all problems one could
come across out!  The  groups  with no
acces  to  the  net  will   have   big
problems when they will get to  bigger
( remember Anarchy ?  )   And in  time
motivation  for  communication   fades
away and will die in the process..
Personally I keep swapping because the
guys I swap with either have  no acces
to the net , or I  swap  with them for
4-5 years , so just to keep up the old
habit.

ST: Friendship is still important so ?
I  personally believe  that friendship
is the  best thing of the scene.  What
do you think about this ?

AN: I  think  it's great , although  I
know it will not last forever. Take my
friendship with Dreamer ,  although he
lives in  Poland  and I in Holland  we
meeted  already 4  times in  only  1.5
year! I even  was at  his  place for a
week , and he at my place for 2 days..
In  between I hardly speak with him ..
( he  is a lazy  swapper ) ,  but  the
knowledge of friendship  doesn't  make
me care much!
But we do call eachother sometimes !
I  adviced  him  to  get  an  internet
account, but untill this day he didn't
;(( (Andrew Get on the net!)

ST: Now tell us about the NL scene, is
it   someway   "stopping"   or  is  it
growing ?

AN: The problem  with  Holland is that
not many sceners did something for the
scene in a way it would get bigger..
For  example  Facet  let  some  of his
friends    join   in   Lemon   ( later
Spaceballs )  and they grow to be VIS.
If a lot of people did that in Holland
the   scene   would   be   much   more
interesting.  But  we  didn't  had too
much of these characters.  If you look
at  other countries  they have.  ( But
this is only a theory of mine.. )

ST: Are  there  many  active  groups ?
Can you mention them ?

AN: Well, you have AXIS  (but it looks
like  their  foreign  members  are the
active ones in 1996 ) ,  and you  have
ofcourse   Reality   ( the  SIH  party
orginizers )  besides them and besides
Facet,Astro,Supernao and besides Danny
and me not really....  Maybe  the  new
formed Desire will release something ?
Mirage  is kind of dead, after the big
fight between  Retep & Tomcat , But  I
don't care , as  long as I enjoy being
in a Polish group ;))

ST: Well... Poland.. the scene country
more  active  thesedays.  Do you think
that eastern European  will take a big
part in scene life ?

AN: I will bet all my money they will!
You  see ,  when  I  was  in Poland on
holiday in 1994, I was having fun with
Lazur,Scorpik,Dreamer,Xtd,Norby and so
on.. Who are anno domini 1996 all VIS.
And  I  notice a lot of people who are
getting  more  and  more  known... For
example I  predict that RYGAR  will be
the next one who will break trough (He
is really a good  gfx'er ).  Also  the
Polish  scene  is  very  BIG.   At the
Assembly last year 70% were PC freaks,
at  The Intel Outside last  year  were
amiga only!

ST: And that is really a good thing :)
By th way, What do you think about PC?

AN: I  think  PC  will  be a medium to
look out  for ,  expecially  if  Escom
will not bring out a new Amiga!  Since
I  think  AGA is  already , or will be
outdated soon ( like ECS was  a couple
of years ago).

ST: Yes,  this is sadly true,  but  we
all expect great things from the Escom
Power Amiga...
So ,  what  about  your involvement in
RAW ?  Can you tell us something about
the next issue of RAW?

AN: Actually  I  got involved with RAW
because   the  whole  Upstream   staff
joined up after the dead of Upstream.

ST: So Upstream is defenitively died ?
Rumours   said  that   someone  should
continue the Upstrteam legend...

AN:  I am  not the person autorized to
say that.  You'd  better  ask  Wolfman
or Mount.

ST: Naturally....   What   about   the
misundertandig you had with Uyanik ?

AN: Well,  Uyanik told a lot of things
that  were  not true in Rom 6 , but  I
hope to  clear this misunderstanding..

ST: Magic:  tell us your opinion about
the  parties  nowdays.  Do  you  think
there will be great parties sceneonly,
I mean  with no money involved, not as
it was TP95, or are they going in that
way ?

AN: My  opinion  about parties is that
the   small   ones   have   the   best
facilities.  The big mistake The Party
5 made,  was  that they didn't leave a
good impression on the party visitors.
So,  they  won't  come  back.  If  you
however  leave a good impression  they
will..

ST: I visited the Saturne Party II and
it was great also if not so much money
was  involved  I agree completely with
you.
Do you know anything about the SIH 96?

AN: SIH 1996 is a fact!   It  will  be
held in October 1996 , instead of july
like the previous years. (And Dreamer:
you'll better come, or else!!)

ST: And now tell us about your private
life ....

AN: My private life... Well my private
life  is  just  fine.  Recently  I got
serious  with  Linda  (  a  wonderfull
Brunette )  and  I guess from a social
view I am really Elite. ( To speak  in
scene terms..) Besides amiga, I attend
body building, and I like going out to
disco's or  pubs with my friends.  Two
nights ago I went to Holland No1 Disco
called  'iT'  which  is   located   in
Amsterdam... But on the other hand the
club  scene  is  getting  at my nerves
also..

ST: Eheh...  Discos are everytime more
boring (at least for me.. I've  been a
Dj for years..) :) Anyway you seems to
like that.  What kind of music  do you
prefer to listen to?

AN: I prefer many music styles.
( Except Hardcore , I hate that! )  My
favorites  are  Jamiroqai , soul music
and  expecially music that I copy from
a  mate of  mine called Martijn, since
he  supplies me with  all the new club
sounds from 12" LP's... I also like my
EXPOSURE part 2 CD.. (Also underground
mellow music)
But  without  any  doubt  my No1 music
are all the modules from Dreamer!

ST: And about  movies ?  Which one are
your favourites?

AN: I like  all kind  of movies  which
are not that childish.. I recently saw
Under Siege 2 ,  great movie...   Jean
Claude van Damme  also  catched my eye
in the past.
Besides  this  Science Fiction is nice
too.  Wait for Lethal Weapon 4 !!

ST: It's come the time: If you want to

AN: I want to say hi to the  Raw Staff
( Casper & Co ) , and also to  my many
Polish  friends  like  Dreamer , Qba ,
Scorpik, Trashhead, XTD and expecially
Norby my best matey  in sad times ;)
Also  to  Moppy  &  T-stone...  And  I
want to mention that if you  want  try
something    different ,  try   Polish
Kurwa's coz they are the best!
