Joru: Hi Pink, are you sitting relaxed and feel fully comfortable in your chair? Pink: Yes, tho i'm abit nervous what whacky questions will come up ;) Joru: So on to the questions, could you tell us a little bit about yourself and your surroundings apart from your membership with Abyss? Pink: Well, it's not easy to seperate myself from Abyss cos everyday i have to work with my group mates in our company called Shin'en. Beside that 'work' i'm still doing alot of music. I produced a game soundtrack (http://www.iridion2.com/soundtrack/) and i'm also working as producer for a band. Browallia: Some nice, funny, happenings or anecdotes from demoparties in the past, you especially remember? Pink: Things i will always remember are those horrible one-hour-left-before-deadline coding sessions when we entered demo competitions. Also Bartmans strange (not to say dangerous, shocking and sometimes simply stupid) behaviour on all party journies throughout europe was always a big laugh. Also painting the floor of a youth hostel in Helsinki with blue colour (don't ask) was a funny thing. Joru: What is your worse memory from the scene? Pink: There aren't any really bad memories. Joru: How has your past using the Amiga influenced your current daily life and thoughts? Do you ever get flashbacks now and then when you hear a special song on radio or tv from when you were coding late? Pink: Just some days ago i drove to my work and then a SID tune was playing on the radio. Then i remembered my passion for doing such music with the amiga (and how many endless hours i spended with it). It's also always funny how many people in my work life still know me from my scene days. Joru: How much money have you spent on your computer/computers, has it been worth it? Pink: I used for a long time my A500 and then an A1200. So I never used alot of money for computers and all of it was surely worth it. You can spend nowadays more on a graphic card then on those classic computers. Joru: Do you wish you never started using computers and in any case why? Pink: No, never. Computers were the only way to express some of my ideas. Joru: How is the relationship between the members in Abyss nowadays? Do you keep in touch with older members? Pink: Some members are still good friends and with some i havent spoked for years. There arent any hard feelings. Joru: You've been involded developing games for the Gameboy Advance, Iridion for example, why Gameboy to start with? Pink: Well, the GBA feels much like an overpowered A1200. I always dreamed in the early 90ties from the games i'm now developing. Programming a game and also doing at the same time the music for it is simply the most fun thing i can imagine (well, in 'work life'). Joru: The Gameboy Advance uses a RISC-processor, how is it like to work with? Pros and cons? Pink: The ARM processor is easy to program. There aren't many pitfalls (as with later 68x00 cpu's). It's very fast and straightforward. Joru: Are you planning on releasing more games in the mentioned market and do you think you will be able to make a living out of it? Pink: Our company released so far four games and we can make our living since 1999 from it (wow, thats already four years ;). We also supplied for more then 150 GBC/GBA games the musicplayers and audios. We are currently developing a new game and keep it all going. Joru: What made you (and Martin "Dexter" Wodoks) develop the AHX-format (Abyss Highest eXperience)? An urge to remind us about our past or was it just a fun thing you had to make real? Pink: Martin was always in love with SID tunes and i was passionate about composing in that style. So i convinced him to make the ultimate SID alike tracker for amiga. It was mainly done for ourselfs and we were amazed how many people used it later. Joru: Personally I love a good steak and potatoes, what about yourself? Is there anyone preparing your dinner when you get home perhaps? =) Pink: I'm more into exotic food. However, i'm still living alone, and so it's rare that i get something cooked. Only at weekends my girlfriend does me sometimes that favour when i visit here :) Joru: Where do you inform yourself nowadays with scene-news? Pink: http://www.ojuice.net/ Joru: To finish off, are you satisfied with the role you've played in the world of computers or is there anything you regret? Pink: I'm not sure if i ever played a role but I had so much fun with my scene work that i don't regret anything. I took alot but gave it back twice. Joru: Anything to add before there is time to let the sun pass the horizon? Pink: It's better to burn out, then to fade away. So keep it going.
