INTERVIEW: FRANZ of ITALIAN BAD BOYS BY OPTIMA FOR LSD 1) Could you present yourself and your Amiga group story? I'm one of the 2 founders of the most important Italian group, that's the Italian Bad Boys, and also today i'm a member of this group. i'm 40 (!) years old, I work in computer- graphics, i've made many years ago (glorious 1968!) the superior school, I own a normal car (no Ferrari, sigh), and my hobbies are to collect: Publicity Postcards, Stamps, Comics and Science Fiction Books. Naturally I love the computer graphics! I love animals, and my cat, the tremendous "Petronio", is a full member of our group, the I.B.B. i've been married for many years and my wife is a wonderful woman, because she doesn't make me war for all the time that i spend on my Amiga for my hobby. I live in Rome, Italy, the best world's country! I don't like cigarettes, I don't like alcohol, I'm a monogamist, i'm as a saint... or not? 2) Your groups historical report. Yep! It was the year 1987 and I swapped C64 stuff with another Italian guy called E$G, that lives in Turin, another city of our marvellous Italy. As we were really friends, a day I asked him because we didn't make a group. He was immediately in agreement with me. So i thought one day and i found the name of "Italian Bad Boys". E$g liked this name, and so we officially started this group. For some time we were a group of only 2 people, but those were glorious TIMES, when there were only a few groups, and we were in touch with all them. Do you remember some of this names; HEADBANGER, SINNERS, AMIGO, KENT TEAM, CHAMPS, DOCTOR MABUSE ORGASM CRACKERS, ECC.? Yeahhhh! They were great guys and good our friends! Only a few groups are living today from these times, and we are one of them and we are proud for this! We were some of the pioneers of the underground Amiga scene! Well, after some months other guys, many of them out of Italy, asked us to join our group, and we answered yes to many of them, because they were right guys. I think that our team was one of the first to have members in a lot of world's countries. Our secret? I think that it's only one: We haven't a boss, but we are a full democratic group, where everyone of us can make what he wants. The only rule is that no-one of us must make something that can damage the Italian Bad Boys. Obviously I and E$G, being the founders, are the poles of our group, but we have never given orders to anyone of the other Italian Bad Boys. I think that this is the only way to make a resistant group in the years. Successively other teams asked us to make a co-operation with us, and as we were good friends, we accepted with enthusiasm. so we made co-operation with Digitech, Knighthawks and also with Piranhas. After a long time we friendly loosen these co-operations and decided to remain alone. This because we already had, and have also today, a lot of members, so that, if we want, we could make 3 or 4 new big groups! For all those years we were in peace with all the other guys of the other countries. We had the only real problems with some other Italian guys. Why? Really i don't know! Probably or they were envious of our success, or they want make themselves publicity in this way, or they were quarrelsome, or they were mad. I don't know! But a day I decided to stop every stupid war with these guys, and it seems that my example has persuaded the other members of I.B.B. to make the same thing. So today there is a silent armistice between us and them, and I hope that quickly this armistice becomes a full peace, because I was tired to spent my time to give insults to other guys! That is: Make the love and not the war! Well, only other some words: We are yet a big productive international group and also today after so many years we are one of the teams that stay at the top of the Italian scene and one of the appreciated groups of the world's scene. 3) Your scene history & some news about it. What are the best groups of your country and their work? Today the Italic scene is really better than some years ago when in Italy there was the desert. Today there are some good groups. Someone are good and nice, some others are good and disagreeable. Today the best Italian groups, except us, are; RAMJAM, HALF BRAINS, CENTURIONS, CHRONOS, NCC, ICC, ZERO DEFECTS, DIVINA. These are groups born in Italy, after this there are also some cool Italian guys that are members of foreign groups as Filippetto of Vega, or Tomcat of Nemesis, and so on. Their productions cover every field of the Amiga possibility, so we can see Italian megademos, demos, dentros, music disks, magazines, collections, cracks, etc. As for modem trading, I think that we in Italy are at the top of the scene, as we've all the newest stuff immediately as all the bbs are "0 days warez". 4) Send us some details about your group projects, work and members. Our project are all and noone! In this sense: We live at the day. We don't make long programs. We like the individuality also in a group, and we like the spontaneity, so when one of us thinks to have some good idea, then he calls some other of our group and tells it to them, and if they are in agreement with him, then the project go on! You can think that this is a stupid method, but you then are in error. You think only that at the last Italian Amiga Expo (and copyparty) to Milano, Italy, called "SMAU", we, without big announcements, were the most productive group, with the best productions! We don't have declared projects. The only thing that we continue to make every some month is our fanzine called "The Bad Tongue", and this only because we are always loving it. As our member list it's very difficult count us, because as every month some guy asks to enter with us. I can only say that we are many, many and many! 5) Have you other computers, consoles and why? Uhmmmmm, except my Amiga 3000, where i make graphic, i've an Amiga 500, where I can run all other kind of software. After this i've a C128 and this is because i'm a big sentimental man, and recently i've bought a MS-DOS 386 to see with my eyes what are the possibility of this machine (and the result is that the Amiga is of a superior category!). 6) Send us a chart of of your best crackers, coders, swappers, trainers makers and pack makers. I want first premise that I don't believe to the charts of "The best in..." (for me the Crusaders Eurochart is a big fake, because I know a lot of guys that are really better than many of the guys that are on it and for this they are minus capable?). After this i can answer you: For me the best cracker group is Skid Row, the best coders team is Phenomena (what other?), the best swapper team is all the French guys I know (yes, it isn't a group, but I see that the French guys are the best swappers, so I decide to answer in this way!), the best trainers makers are my friends in Energy and the best packs makers are the Subsoftware. 7) What you think about the actual world scene? I think that it's always the same! many cool groups and guys and also a lot of lamers. Some time someone came on, open his mouth and spike shit as about the "friendship" (as if before this slogan we weren't as all friends and as if after this slogan all these bastards that profit of the friendship to make their dark business were all died!), some time 2 groups can to make war, and some other time they make peace. It's the same world! 8) Do you think there is too much magazines? Really today they are a lot! as every group want make one and this goes against the quality of the products. So we can see only a few really good products. I would give an idea: because many groups that make bad mags don't join together their forces so to make a good product? This because a group can have a good graphic and all the rest is shit, another group can have a good coder (and the rest is shit), another a good musician and so on. However I can add that the old magazines, as Cracker Journal (the oldiest), our Bad Tongue (the second oldiest), Zine, Ice and some other are also today the best! 9) Do you have already write articles for a disk magazines? If not say why. Of course my answer is: yes! I've written a lot of articles for our mag, The Bad Tongue, but there is a lot of time that I didn't write something, because some months ago I had the sickness to write again another article! This is the first time from then that I write something for a magazine (I hope you appreciate it! Ehehehehehe). 10) Tell me the date of this interview and some actualites eveniments which have interested you or shock you. I've written this poor words on the 9 December 1991. I can say that there is a thing that interested and shock me on these last times, but it haven't anything to make with the Amiga world. It's the radical change in the Urss and more generally in the East Europe! I now hope in a better future for all us! 11) Have you a question that you would like that I ask you and what will be your answer? The question could be: What you think is the best thing that the Amiga's given you? The answer should be this: I think that the best thing the Amiga given me was that thanks to this machine i've a lot of friends around all the world, guys that I never saw and that probably never will I see, and we are really friends, as dudes. This is a marvellous thing! 12) A last word? Shit, but when the Commodore will get out a computer that an really speak with us i'm waiting...... End.
