PHENOMENA & LIGHT'S EASTERCONFERENCE
------------------------------------
By Omega of Rebels

Well, I was asked by this lunatic
Lord Helmet to write an article
concerning Phenomena and Light's
Easterconference '92. And who would
dare refusing HIM?! Not anything
human, I hope. Anyway, here goes:

This Amiga/C64 party started off at
the 17th of April and ended in the
early hours of a mondaymorning
(Grr..) the 20th. As we (?!)
arrived in Alingsas, Sweden at
friday we took a taxi to the place
where the hole event would take
place, a large ice-hockey hall.
(Swe-Fin 5-2 in the finals. Haha!)
Personally I like it better when the
organizers have arranged a school
with some classrooms instead, but, I
thought for myself, I guess it'll
have to do! The noise is always
louder at these parties with a big
hall and the possibilities of
sleeping considerably lower. One
good thing about it is that
information about competitions etc.
is often easier to spread here than
at a conference with small
classrooms.

The place was invaded by
approximately 500 freaks, at the
time we got there, but the numbers
would soon climb up to over 800.
The biggest party in Sweden, no
doubt. (Even IF the entrance was as
high as 150 SEK.) At least half of
them must have been C64-kings and
they sure dominated in number of
releases. Many of the demos on it
were actually better than on Amiga.

At the front there was a large
screen (standard these days!) and a
pair of MEGA loud-speakers. On the
big screen they showed everything
from old classical demos
(COMA/Rebels!!! Wooow!), videos,
sick animations and information
about all kinds of things. There
was a cafeteria with hamburgers,
candy, snacks and egg-sandwiches.
(Hey, it was Easter!) It wasn't
cheap, but if you're hungry you
often don't care. The organizers
had also arranged a Pizza-service so
that you could order food from a
local restaurant at a fair price.
That, we didn't know when we first
bought our 75-kronors pizzas at some
other fancy restaurant... And they
didn't even taste good.
Arrrgghhh...

Trouble with the power seems to be a
tradition on parties all over, so
why break it. Also here, the
inveterated computer-users had to
wait for the power to arrive at
times. I don't think it was too
serious, however. All together the
organizing at this party was just a
bit above average.

So, were there any famous guys
there? Well, I can only speak on
behalf of Amiga's enthusiasts, and
they seemed to have stayed home this
Easter. Present were for example
Phenomena (ofcourse!), Rebels,
Silents, Noxious, Rage and a lot of
other "not-so-famous" groups. A lot
of people were, as said, there with
their Commodore 64.

The result of the C64-democompo
really affected me. I kind of
thought that the scene and all was
dead and buried, but that was
totally wrong. Many groups
impressively showed what they could
do with the ten-year old machine.
And it almost looked like the best
demos on Amiga a couple of years
ago. The graphics were not too bad
either, and the winning picture was
a naked girl sitting somewhere on a
beach with her legs rather spread.
Now, who could help voting for that
picture. None of the young
teenagers present on this party,
that's for sure.

On Amiga it was worse. The winning
contribution was a megademo (Long
time, no see!) that won on it's nice
Raytracing-routine, nothing else.
The quality in this category was way
below average. The organizers chose
ten songs and as many pictures for
the two other competitions on Amiga
and the quality was absolutely
better here than on the demoside,
but nothing revolutionaty.

Read the results some else in this
mag!!!
