In Focus: Pix of Subspace Interrogatory Performed by Kaosmaster of Darkage Your complete name ? - My full name is Espen Terjesen, more known as Pix/Subspace within the scene. Previous groups you were involved ? - The first group I joined was IRIS. Mj, who was the norwegian organizer, lives half an hour from me (with car that is ;), so we met on occasion. After a local computerparty, I tried my luck, and contacted him for joining. He wanted me in; my first step into the scene. After some time I wanted to join an other group, ATS (now DNF), but this was againt IRIS' policy. This made me leave IRIS. Sadly, things went wrong with ATS, and it split up. The people left in ATS founded DNF which I joined not long after. Things went wrong (of course ;) in DNF too, some trouble appeared with me and one of the coders. I left them, and for a while I was without a group. I almost ended up in SSP, but Visitor, the organizer of Subspace, made me join Subspace, something I've never regretted. I was in Digital Corruption for a period too, but left. Well, that's all there is to it... :) Your first scene debut ( production ) , and reactions by the scene ? - My first picture that was used in a scene production must be the cute little dinobaby pic used in the first DNF demo. I never got to release anything of interest in IRIS, although I made the first 5 intropics for the mag Miracle (one issue released ;). The reactions by the scene were positive, but far from the reactions I get these days. It's really nice to hear that people actually like my work... hehe... Have you ever made profit by your scenic abilities? - No, I've never earned a penny on my graphics. Most sceners tend to join game companies. This is not the case with me. I guess I'll end up doing design or similar, but I'm not interested in making graphics for gaming platforms. The most embarassing time into the scene? - Embarassing, let's see. Hmff... damn, can't recall any particular episodes... sorry... The production that changed your scene life? - Well, not that easy to come up with a specific one, but I guess my intropic for X-Files made me more known that I was. Else, intropics and design for mags... There is somebody (scener) that you will never like to meet? and why? - Hm, no, sorry, there's nobody I don't want to meet. Quite the contrary, theres a lot of sceners I'd like to meet! ;) Maybe we'll meet at TP this year? ;) What does your family think about your career? - I don't think they quite understand what I'm doing, except my sister. She ever read some articles concerning my TG'97 pic. The rest of my family have seen my works, but I guess they don't understand the work behind. Most people thinks it's easier to make good looking artwork with a computer than by hand... well, that's partly true, but not completely ;) Have you ever been arrested by police? - No, and never will. I'm not that kind of character. I'm not violent at all, nor criminal. Your worst production? - Must be some of my earlier works, before I became a real scener. Those pics sucked! :) Luckily nobody have them today.. hehe... Which production you have liked to make ? - I haven't been involved in so many projects, but the one I liked the best, must be Xenophobia, which contains one of my best works; Bullock Goes Cyber, which also was my contribution at TP last year. Which is the worst product you have ever seen in this last 2 years? - Probably the article about Louie being a scanner! I don't know him well, but I can say that I person working at Team17 must have some drawing skills. Besides this, my friend Orome/Talent, has showed me what's possible with a painter program. Silly article indeed. What you criticize about your group ? - Well, it seems like nobody have a clue about what's going on in Subspace. One can ask the coder what we're going to make for TP... "Dunno, don't ask me!"... hehe, well, when we get working we can make some stunning work. It's just a question about wanting and having the enthusiasm. Else, the group is a real friendly and not too serious group, with the potential of making nice productions. Your first sexual experience? - Well, isn't that private? ;) Hehe... well, I'm not that good with girls. It's not like they hate me or anything, it's just that they don't look at me as more than a good friend. Hopefully I'll meet the right one sometime ;) (someone who thinks of me more than a friend ) yeah... ! The most difficult period in your scene career? - The start ofcourse... nobody knew who you were, and you're work sucked. What do you like to do while not scening? - Well, I like to be with friends, listen to music, read books and comics. I also like to go out, although I don't drink. I'm not like those crazy swedish sceners for instance! ;D Which are your favouvorite hobbies? - I like to draw, by hand too, and I'm really hooked on comics. Especially ones as Sandman, Hellblazer and Preacher. I also love music, mainly good old music like The Doors, Led Zeppelin and The pixies, but of course also newer music (Cake, Radiohead, Motorpsycho, REM and more )... Except this I like to relax in front of the TV after a hard school day ;)) How is the most bastard you have ever encountered in the scene business? - Hm, nobody that I can come up with just like that, but there's one kind of character I don't like, and that's the eLiTE dudes. Some are really ignorant and puffed-up. Hm, and certainly the people who criticize graphicians work, when they're musicians, coders and whatever. Which is your most preferedd vicious ? - I'm not vicious at all! ;D There is any VIS of the past that you really do not support? - None that I can come up with. What you would change of your career? - Nothing actually, I've been rather lucky... less than 2 years in the scene, and now I'm getting known. That's more than I expected.
