He's proved to be something more than
just a new talent, and his works
already made him 'earn' two
consecutive 'Picture of the Month'
awards in these very same pages, a
result that nobody had achieved
before. Yet, who is he? Let's find
out! As always, a 'The Charts'
exclusiveness:

        Madame and Monsieur...

             S L A I N E

                 O F

              N. G. C.

I'm 20 years old, infographist
professional. I've been in several
groups like Delight, Majic12, Extreme,
Digital eleven, Pure metal coders,
Flj, Agile, Ivory, Eden...ect..ect..
and now NGC .
I like smoking, tasting beer and
women, painting, marllboro, cannabis,
hirondelle, Nippon country.

You have won the last two editions of
our 'picture of the month' symbolic
award with 'Marble Head' first and 'La
Tete a Toko' then, what's your opinion
about charts? and above all, why you
are still not present in any charts,
although you've released at least two
great pictures like those?

Oh, I like charts but evidently charts
don't like me! I don't know why but
life is life. I have released 5
pictures on different parties, but it
has never happened what I wished.
Anyway, I'm oly 20th in the last
Eurocharts and I really hope to jump
soon higher in the people's spirit.

Could you please tell something about
the making of both those pictures?

             MARBLE HEAD

25 days point by point inspiration of
Ciruelo. Changed 2 model of him and
making little harmony.

            LA TETE A TOKO

10 days of artwork. 50% copy of
Dimacio (painting artist) hard work
coz : I changed all textures in the
head and I drew my own style in the
head.

-------------------------------------
This is an artist! Originality is the
word to be used for Slaine. With
pictures like "Marblehead" and "La
Tete A Toko" he has showed the scene
that it is still possible to make
something totally new that differs a
lot from conventional scene graphics.
I cannot tell exactly how he makes his
pictures but one thing is for sure:
He doesn't draw pixel by pixel... He
rather uses textures that are applied
on the picture which is then modified
in some magic way?
I suppose he makes his own motives -
something that makes this guy close to
ingenious. Though, I heard and saw
fragments of some mess that occurred
at the The Party IV. There was a
argue between an organizer and a
person that had some kind of hardcopy
of Slaines' "La Tete A Toko" picture,
but I didn't really get what it was
all about. However, it appeared that
the person (probably Slaine) with the
picture on paper tried to convince the
organizer that the picture aimed for
the competition was all right.

Was Peachy the right winner of the
Party4 gfx-compo? If not, who was the
right winner?

No! Peachy wasn't the right winner!.
I think it was: Joe / s!p
Technic texture model : great!!

How you rank yourself in the todays
graphical scene and who's actually the
best graphician in the french scene?

Hmm, french scene, I really don't like
me and I don't like them! Pretentious
people! Not intrested! and very very
professional (ah ah ah)
Regarding who's the best graphician, I
don't know... I'm an old graphician
on the scene, but only an artist and
not a judge. There are too many
unknown people on this world and who
probably are better than us.

Among all the pictures you've drawn,
which you think is the best one and
why?

MARBLE HEAD: Only 10 days. More
technics. More precisions. More
speed in realization.

--------------------------------------
SLAINE has been around wearing his
characteristic bowler hat for some
time now. He first reached the big
audience with his picture for the
Saturne Party 1994 where he had used
his special hires lace stencils. Like
his next two high standard pictures
Marble Head (Assembly '94) and Tete
(TP94) he paints with textures as
basis. It gives much more solid
objects where Slaine's light effects
form the shapes. The style is unique
because you can experiment and create
instead of working hard with every
pixel. Marble Head and Tete are in a
very similar crystal clear style
(partly because of the high
resolution) that despite the simple
backgrounds are amazing pictures.
Slaine is one of the best if he goes
on like this.

We never seen a logo from you, don't
you like to draw logos?

I did and I'll do logos, but I dont
like a lot to draw them. You spend a
lot of time for 'nothing'.

Is there a graphician with whom you
would like to draw a picture together?

Yes, and I already did it with two
artists, Yolan/NGC and Thanatos/(old)
PMC

Is there a picture done from another
artist, that you'd liked having
pixelled?

Yes! CELIS by Archmage/Andromeda

The quest for artists -using scanners-
has always been an actuality in the
scene.
Now, just imagine yourself not to be a
part of the scene and therefore not
involved in any kind of scene
activities. If you should necessarily
choose a name among these five
artists, regarding the eventual use of
scanners or other similar hardwares,
who could be the one that you think
would probably hide a handy scanner
inside his drawer?

Always regarding those five artists,
just mention for each of them a
quality that they have and that you'll
be glad to 'stole' them.

Tell us the names of some past
graphicians that you admire and why.

UNO for all : It was THE FIRST and
the best.

Tell us the names of some today
graphicians that you admire and why.

I really admire Archmage of Andromeda.
No copy (only virtuality reality),
colors, fun. Excellent artist. Not
enough seen and appreciated.

Any projects? Shall we expect other

-- I'd say Slaine is a very underrated
artist. He has brought something new
that has newer been seen before, but I
guess his time will come rather soon
as more and more people probably learn
about his works of art.
