WOTW in focus The (W)arrior (O)f (T)he (W)ind __Elef Tsiroudis alias WOTW was a very well known musician in the early days of the Amiga scene (1991-92), especially for the masses of chiptunes he produced and which were used regularly in lots of cracktros and other small productions around, especially in old Supplex times. __His scene history also includes groups like The Science Frontiers, Scanners, Gothic, Dual Crew and The Silents, something that shows us this musician can truely be considered an oldschool being... To end his group biography, we should not forget his brief stays in Essence, Haujobb and his groups at the moment, Razor 1911 and Class (Both on PC). __WOTW has released many known tunes. The list starts with magtunes for magazines like Raw (Issue 3), Eternal (Issue 2), Generation, ChitChat (Issue 10), World Charts (Issue 9), AM/FM (Issue 11) and The Jungle (Issue 4), crossing demotunes like the ones used in the Essence trackmo A.S.S. (Antediluvian Sloppy Spectacle) or in the TSL Germany production "Transpiersky", not to forget several tunes released under the label of Essence for intros and his chippack Talktime (Which unfortunately never saw anything but the first issue) __Please tell us your current groups, on which platform they work and on which platform you use to create your tunes. __At the moment I am in 2 PC groups; Razor 1911 and Class. I still do my tunes with Protracker 2.2B on my Amiga 1200! I think I will start working with FT2 on the PC and THX on Amiga soon... __You left the scene some time ago in order to concentrate on your real life job. What was the reason for you to return to this big "playground" entitled scene? __During the time I left the scene I realized my dream. I had the fortune to make my hobby my real life job. At the beginning it was quite hard not being in the scene, I must admit. My time in the scene was very nice and leaving all my friends behind wasn't very enjoyable. Years passed by and one day as I surfed on the world wide web, I stumbled upon the TRSI page... My heart started to beat very fast and a lot of good feelings came back to me. That's when I decided to re-enter... __Apart from your scene activities our newsreporter somehow got to know that you are also involved in a couple of serious dance/techno projects and have already released a couple of records. Tell us more about it! How did this start? What was your biggest gig/success till now? Can you name any labels where we can get hold of your work? __In 1993 I bought my first Synth (Yamaha SY85). Months later I asked a friend if I could do a techno track for him. So I took the first steps into producing technotracks. I liked it and I bought more and more equipment. In 1994 I released my first 12inch with Christian Morgenstern, who was also in Essence, on our own label. We immediately had big success with this vinyl and did a couple of Live-Acts (also abroad). After that record i started my own label called Shokoy Records, which is based on minimal techno. Today 18 records have been released and the label became really famous in the underground. Till today, I've released 12 records on labels like Dos or Die, EMI, Wash Circles etc. Alot of tracks were played on big radiostations like HR3 Clubnight, Radio RPR and so on. Also my tracks were licensed to over 40 Samplers like D-Trance, Trancemaster, Rave Mission and Tunnel Trance Force. A video will follow our actual single if it'll reach position 10 in the DDC charts. __Have any of your songs been played on TV/radio? Are you able to live of the profit from these jobs? __Yes I live quite well on the money I earn. Of course, I haven't earned my first million yet, but I hope I can realize that in the next 2 years. __When you are able to work with huge amounts of tracks in 'real life', you return to the "crappy" 4ch world on the Amiga. What is the thrill for you to act like this? What do you find so interesting, to leave all technical possibilities behind and start Protracking again? I mean, most people would have expected multichannel stuff from you... __Oh, nice question! Well I believe that someone who grew up in the scene will always remember those times. The break I've had over 5 years was very long and the fact that a lot of older people still are in the scene caused me to start my activities again. 4 Channels are very funny. It's always a pleasure to do a great piece with only 4 channels. __Do you use any of your professional equipment in order to get your 4 channel tunes more catchy? In case you do, tell us about the equipment you are able to use. __No I don't use that equipment for my ProTracker-mods. Maybe I will use it for my contribution to the musiccompetition at the next Party in Denmark. I don't want to compose any real mods because they take a lot more time, and I can't afford that. __Alot of guys still love your old chiptunes. The "WOTW-Introtune" series surely was one of the finest and LONGEST series ever made, with a huge amount of various tunes. Still, you gave all of those modules the "WOTW" style many musicians were trying to copy at that time. Do you still compose those modules? What do you think about chiptunes in general today? __I don't know whether many others musicians tried to copy my style. If that's the fact I am very happy about it. I will still keep that style because the scene started with such tunes and I will also keep the dirty texts in my mods! Hahahahaha. Chiptunes are great, nothing more to say! __What are your plans for your scene future? Do you plan to release another chippack or maybe a musicdisk? Or do you see your music in a nice demo, shown on a huge competition screen? __I will soon release a chipcollection with Nuance and a lot of new introtunes for several cracking groups. __In which way, if it has, has your attitude towards the scene changed during the last years? __My aim is not to enter the charts, I only want to have fun and meet a lot of old friends, and to release again hundreds of new chippies heheheh. The scene is now my hobby! __You know some of the old sceners that are still around, and which you have known for QUITE some time. Still, alot of guys claim that the scene ain't what it has been before. What is your statement concerning the overall AMIGA scene impression? __The scene isn't what it was in the past. There is no real scene anymore. It all goes over the internet. In the past you wrote nice letters to your contacts you met, often on private parties, and the relation among the sceners was more intensive than today. Anyway, it always depends to the time when you joined the scene. I think I will have a great time again and that counts. __Okay, now you got some space left for advertisments of any kind, greetings and other stuff that pops up in your mind right now. So, feel free and take your time.. __First of all I will greet some of my old and real friends like: You Dascon, Virgill, Warhead, TSM, Irata, Peachy, Free Agent, Logo 7, Hetero, ATM, Sun, Jason, Vention, Conquest, Pride, Facet, Jazz, XXX, Raven, Kris, Moxy, all in Mirage, Chromag, Angeldawn, D-Sign, all in Essence, Damian, Lynnx, Bass, Mel o dee, KR'33, Shade, Surfing, Icarus, Cyclone, Control, and to the rest of you lovely guys!!!!!!!
