INTERVIEW WITH SANDMAN OF NIRVANA -=BY SHADOW OF LSD=- Q: Could you introduce yourself? A: I'm Sandman of Nirvana, I am 16 years old and i'm studing Accounting, Economics, Maths, Computers and English. Unfortunely I don't own a car, i'm living in New Zealand and my hobbies are surfing, partying, girls, skateboarding and of course computing! Q: When did you start with computing? A: In late 1989 me and a friend bought an Amiga and then we formed a group called 'The Gods', in our country all the competition was to bring the games in the fastest from Europe, so we were all just mail traders and we found 1 coder, 1 musician and 1 graphic artist. We released compacts and did an intro and few graphics disks. Early 1990 we joined IBB/Piranhas and when the co-op died so we joined IBB. After a while, we decided to leave as the European division weren't releasing enough. We decided to reform The Gods! We became the leading group in our country until the group all split up from internal problems, I soon joined a group called reality, I wasn't in it for very long and then I formed a small group called Hot Tuna whom we did for a few weeks and then joined Kaos. I was in Kaos for few months but wasn't getting on very well with the leader seeing how he was very lazy and I was the only active member! After Kaos I was independant for about a month till I joined Nirvana which was formed from cool guys in Australia and New Zealand! Q: What about the New Zealand scene? A: Our scene is very different! For the first few years, hardly any demos would be released and there would be hardly any decent groups and all the competition was to bring the games in from Europe and the person that brings them in the fastest and spread them the best was considered the best! Only in 1991 quality demos were released like Reality's Kiwi Crap and then many followed with Deceit, Carcass... People seem to have got into modems these days so the mail part of New Zealand is particulary dead. Some of the better groups in NZ would be: Reality, they have done some great demos and release the Kiwi Green series and import a lot of games. Another great group would be Deceit they have the best coder in the country and have recently opened a hst bbs and released the Copper Jelly intro! Theres was also Nightbreed and Nirvana now! Q: What kind of equiptment have you? A: I have an A500 with extra drive, 1 meg and a Modem, I don't own any other consoles apart from a Gameboy. Q: Now only for fun just send us your best five cracker/coder teams, swapper teams, trainer maker and packmakers! A: OK, CRACKERS: 1. Crystal 2. Skid Row 3. Fairlight 4. Vision Factory 5. Nemesis CODERS: 1. Cryptoburners 2. Silents 3. TRSI 4. Anarchy 5. LSD TRAINERS: 1. Energy 2. Supplex 3. Punishers 4. Legend 5. Dual Crew PACKS: 1. LSD 2. Anarchy 3. Rebels 4. Flash Productions 5. Scoopex Q: What do u think of the modemtrading scene? A: I think that the actual world scene is too much modem oriented, sure I have a modem and use it a lot but I think that people advertise their address for mail trading and then they can't swap with because they are on the modem, I think that people should still trade via mail, it's good for sending chocolates and other goodies. As a conclusion I want to say that the quality of productions from demo's to compact disk has improved a hell of a lot in quality, overall I think the world scene is better than ever! I want to thanx shadow for his interview and the cool sending! end.
