Curt Cool / Depth Danish musician/editor/trader/organizer on Amiga English interview on irc by Dire in 1999 Dire: Howdy Frank, welcome to a fast irc what you think is what to type interview. Curt Cool: Hi Nico! Dire: Where do you get your ideas for composing? Curt Cool: Anywhere really - what's most irritating is when I can't remember them when I come home to my computer - if I have to do some project, I often play a bit on my keyboard to find some good harmonies... Helps the inspiration, so to speak... Dire: So you are using a professional machine, are you playing in a real band? Curt Cool: Nah... I'm really quite terrible at playing the keyboard... I would like to sing in a band actually, but I've been far too busy to do anything about it... Professional machine??? Old crap Roland E-15 more like... Still, I intend to do some midi stuff in the future... Dire: You are mainly doing chip music - how is that techique to compose such mods? Where is the difference to mods with digitized instruments? Curt Cool: Well, I haven't been doing all that many chiptunes lately - still, chiptunes is a quite special style in the way that there's not that many opportunities to make fancy effects, so the only things that counts are the melody and the harmonies... A catchy melody is alpha & omega... Dire: How much time do you spend on a song in general? Curt Cool: Depends on what kind of a song it is - anything from 15 minutes to several days - but I believe that the optimal way of working is to make the whole tune in one day, in a continuous flow of work - that way I'm not losing the overview of the tune... Dire: Which system do you prefer - PT? Digibooster? What are the pros and cons? Curt Cool: I'm very much used to Protracker - but on the other hand it's only 4ch - and I still compose mainly in PT2.3d. Still, I would like to do some work in DigiBooster, but though DB is a very impressive program in many ways - the amount of tracks etc. - the amount of hotkeys for the actual tracking is not as big as in PT - I sincerely believe that instead of copying FastTracker (on the pc), the author should try to implement some more of the ProTracker hotkeys - after all, most Amiga composers started their career in PT... Dire: Any greetings or last words? Curt Cool: weeeellll... Dunno... I ought to get a homepage of my own up sometime - that way people could dl my mods... Anyway, greets to all Amiga sceners and everyone who enjoys modules and computer music and... Beer... weed... partying... Amiga... etc. etc... Can't really figure out any silly things to write right now... contact me if you'd like on curtcool@image.dk You can find a lot more interviews (around 40) @ http://scenet.de }
