Rush Hour'98 RokDaZone&Maq Rush Hour'98 - Report
by RokDaZone & Maq/Endzeit
Polish parties. We all know they are
factually happening almost all of the
time throughout the entire year, but -
damned - why don't we ever hear from
them? Luckily we can lift the (iron)
curtain a little at least in the case
of Rush Hours'98. Best regards to
Maq/Endzeit for the information.
The Rush Hour'98 took place from the
25th to 26th April 1998 in
Czestochowa/Poland, a very famous and
touristically interesting polish city.
The whole event was organised by
Freezers, the once quite famous group
which has become quite silent in 1997
actually. Much like it is to be
expected the party took place in a
sportshall in which estimated 400 to
500 visitors, from groups like
Appendix, Endzeit, VenusArt, Floppy,
Amnesty, PhaseTruce and Union, easily
found place in. Even a handful of
italian Sceners have been seen.
"That Sportshall was good," Maq
confirms, "but sanitary condition were
awful! Anyway, the party place was
quite good."
Only irritating factor here that the
partyplace was changed only a couple
of days before the party so that quite
a lot of people first drove to the
wrong location. Well, we had worse
things.
Repordetly the place and the whole
event took advance from the bright and
sunny weather which caused quite a lot
of Sceners to enjoy themselves outside
on the lawn. Maybe smoking parts of
it, we don't know. All in all the
athmosphere was described as relaxed
and friendly.
As usually there is one cardinal
question after a party: What did the
organisers do wrong?
First of all it seemed like they
showed an uncommonly rigid behaviour
for polish parties. People being
found with alcohol were simply kicked
out, the same goes for Sceners
sleeping in the hall(!).
The Competitions
Demo Competition
1.) Napalm / Floppy
2.) Visible World / Mawi
3.) Flea / Appendix
4.) Twich / Vegas
In the Demo Competition we find only
one demo which deserved that name. It
is the winning production made by
Zig/Endzeit & Floppy. 'VisibleWorld'
from Mawi & Venus Arts was a slideshow
with one (really nice) effect and a
lot of great gfx. 'Flea' by Appendix
was another advanced but
disappointingly short release which
rather reminded of an intro not a
demo. 'Twich' by Vegas was a
production coded in AMOS and we know
what to think about those.
Interesting then again that it
featured environmental and texture
mapping routines in assembler.
64kb Intro
1.) Korn / Amnesty
2.) Born Again / Venus Art
3.) Revolution909 / Mawi
?.) Infinity / Reality
?.) Retro / Instinct
?.) Dysentry2 / Victims
?.) Relievo / AVD
?.) Child / Moons
?.) Skizzy / Palimy Trafke
?.) Death Brain / Phace Truce
The 64kb intro competition was - like
we are used to from polish parties- of
a rather high standard. Amnesty took
the first place with an impressive
production called 'Korn'. A surprise
surely the return of Venus Arts.
After only three months in the polish
army, Noe returned with a yet another
high-quality CyberGFX supporting
intro.
These guys are planning huge things
for the future nd for this they search
for another talented 3D-worksman. So
in case of interest rush to join this
surely grand group. The Virtua Art 3D
engine has been already ported to PPC
and with 'Everything Dies remix' and
'Ghost in The Machine special edition'
two PPC-supporting releases have been
presented at RushHour '98.
4kb Intro
1.) Together Remix / Phace Truce
2.) S38ZB4 / Mawi
3.) Thud_Remix / Mawi
?.) CoolMix / Amnesty
?.) srorriM / EndZeit
?.) Babcia / PSB
?.) Sroka / Wfms
Places only known for the first three
ranks. Maq re-released his intro from
the Mekka Symposium which then didn't
competed in the competitions. It
seems people didn't like that idea as
else there is no explaination why he
didn't win the overall very weak
contest. Also difficult to understand
why 'CoolMix' by Amnesty didn't reach
one of the first three ranks. Maybe a
lot of Mawi friends there.
256b Intro
1.) Midge / Appendix
2.) ??? / Wfms
3.) Break in Chaos / ITB^Ind
Aln!/Appendix has made an impressive
256bytes intro called 'Midge'.
Incredible what some people can think
of in a bunch of bytes which is 20
times shorter than this article.
4-Channel Competition
1.) Mark
2.) Moon
3.) X-Ceed/Endzeit
Multi-Channel Competition
1.) X-Ceed/Endzeit
2.) ChildDream / ???
3.) ??? / Bartesek
Graphics Competition
1.) Crazy Man / Kro
2.) Sinner / Madd
3.) Mystic-Influence / Mustafa
Mostly Photoshop-pictures in this
competition, which also goes for the
first place. At least a handful of
hand-drawn pictures of some quality
there.
Raytrace Competition
1.) Nauka / Traitor
2.) Kinder / Traitor
3.) Rflexx / ???
Once more, Traitor has proven that he
deserves the title of he best polish
RayTracer at the moment.
