The IRIS NEW YEAR CONFERENCE 1992
by Paranoiak - E.O.C 1999
We began this strange kind of
adventure on a sad, cold morning in
December and that was the 27th. The
night was running through it's long
winter life; and suddenly this shit of
clock rang it's bell in my ears...
It's really horrible to awake at 4
o'clock in the morning, and thinking
that al most 900 kilometers
(Montpellier to Paris) are still
waiting for driving. I was in good
mood to drive, but I did not know how
it was going to be... Nevermind, I
awoke my tender wife. LET'S GO! The
road till CRC (one of our coders)
still is as bad as my mind remembers
it. But it was not the worst at
all... The road till Dijon to bring
with us Pets Band, wasn't too long...
The worst is coming, and take it as an
advice, you poor drivers from abroad
or from other french regions......
The Paris suburbs are the hell for a
driver.... 80 kilometers in 3 and
half hours !!!! Desperately we
reached the party in Nesle La Vallee,
and as the promised land seen by
Moses, we entered the great hall of
it. There were so much people, that
we couldn't see our stand place. It
was like a silly jungle of legs, arms
and heads; running, walking, sleeping
and talking. The whole jungle was
entirely clouded in a strange smog of
cigarettes. The most difficult part
was to encounter our members. Why?
Because we didn't have seen them
before. Finally, we reached our
place, and then, it was a great mo
ment of pleasure to meet all these
guys, who are members of our crew.
Names became, at last, faces. I
think, it was one of the best moment
in the party for all End Of Century
1999 mem bers. It was also a big
relief for all of them, asking
themselves if we didn't crash with the
car somewhere on the road... Big
noise,heavy heat, strange smells,
eaten pizzas, disks copies were
everywhere in this room. Almost all
french cool groups were there, but I
regret that weren't any foreign crews,
except some guys from Luxembourg.
Cool famous groups were there, anyway:
Silents, Anarchy, Devils, The Special
Brothers, Dreamdealers, Symbiosis and
so on. Nevermind, I was a little
decieved by the organisation of this
party. The room seemed to be too
narrow, and each time you walked near
the tables, all electrics cables
disconnected them selves, and almost
ten tables were out of power! The
microphone had got some problems,
'cause we couldn't hear anything, as
we were just in below of the scene...
The really good side of this party
was, in fact, all these friends I've
been able to meet there. Some old
swappers companions,or Minitel (french
phone board) delirium guys... It was
really fine to talk with famous guys,
and new Amiga crews. I think that
much more copy parties must be held in
France, just to encounter friends like
them! In fact there were some cool
guys, but also some big stupid
lamers. I don't talk about little
crews, because everybody begins as a
little bird in its nest, I talk about
these guys who said themselves the
best over the world whereas they did
not produce anything. Perhaps they'll
recognize each others, they sent some
stupid sentences against productive
crews during the competition as:
- It's lame !
- We have seen it already !
and so on. I just have to say some
thing about these style of lamers...
First, before criticizing in a bad
way as you've done there,do something!
Perhaps they can't?? It's
very easy to tell anything over anyone
and what they do ; but the respect of
the guys, and the respect of the hard
work they've done, learns to everybody
the humility ! Wars begins in this
way of thinking, and war is stupid.
Ok, I'll stop this kind of talking now
and I hope you'll sorry me about that;
but it revolted me. Now about the
competition.... In fact, after this
long driving time, I was so tired,
that I decided to go in a hotel for
sleeping. I left the party at one in
the morning (december 28th), and then
be back at nine o'clock. The
competition began at half past six,
and I arrived just to see our prods on
the screen. This screen was a so
little one that I don't think everybo
dy has seen all! The comp ran till
11:00 and almost everybody was
sleeping. Once again the organisators
had done a stupidity. They should
have shown all demos during the night
in non stop running, and let the crews
and the others make their own choice.
The positive point was that everybody
could vote for their favorite demos.
As 12 o' clock was reached, almost all
the crews were gone... We were
waiting for the results, but at 13:00
they didn't arrive yet... So, as I'd
got one time again 900 kilo meters to
go back home, we left the party...
Perhaps I'll read the results in
another article, or inside a french
Amiga mag... I will insist on the
fact that the organisation was not a
famous one... Think a little when you
do a party, there are a lot of crews
now in Fran ce, and you must rent a
bigger room. Don't hesitate to rent a
giant screen, and a powerfull system
to talk... And finally don't forget
to put on your tee-shirt a nice badge
to be seen. Of course, I haven't got
anything against IRIS, they're cool
guys. I only give them some little
advices for another party. Perhaps
you're asking yourself if the very
well known APP was there. The answer
is, of course, YES. At the begin ning
of the party it was a real hunt for
the unautorized utilities, and you
should have D-Copy to copy anything,
DEVPAC was also hunted with ferocity.
Nevermind, these inspectors were there
with a particular discretion; and I
didn't see anyone who suffered of
their presence. I will stop with this
article with a good point. The IRIS
NYC 92 was a good party, in the way of
meeting some cool guys... Improve it
a little and maybe it could be great!!
