³ ¼The Party 91¼ ¹ The party 1991 held by Anarchy, Crystal and Silents. This party must be one of the most disgussed parties ever held. Party info was spread about half a year before it took place. A lot of changes about who were actually the groups behind this party. Was it really as great as it was pronounced to be??? Well, we (I photon, and the rest of Vixen) arrived at the partyplace at 1400 hours thursday 26/12 after an almost 5 hours long bustrip from Odense DK. When we got in (after paying 100 Dkr) the first thing that stroke me was professionalism. The partyplace was one big hall and a sleepingroom of the same size! In the middle of the hall was a fake wall with tables sticking our to both sides, and tables from each wall too. So every freak sat in the same room, Cool! The arrangers of the party had made one big mistake from the start; they had allowed boozing inside the place, and several freaks couldn't handle the freedom of booze, and in the middle of the night between thursday and friday, it all ended up with a guy (I think he was swedish) smashing a stereorack into the floor splitting it into A LOT of tiny pieces. Also someone called the firedept. and told them a fire had broken out, so the firedept. came. Saw no fire was raging the place, and gave the arrangers a bill on 20000 Dkr. for a false alarm. The one who did it was never found I think, but whoever it was, he/she was a f**king lamer because it was pronounced that there would be no graphics or musiccompetition because of this. Somehow the freaks started to realise that what they'd done was really some shit, and then the party turned into a "normal" party with not much boozing and MUCH phreaking! 2 or 3 hours later the staff said though, that all competitions (except for the surprise competitions) still would be on if people could behave themselves! The party had a lot of visitors. At one time the total amount of people was 1300 people. The most famous guys who showed up was Anarchy, Silents, Crystal, Phenomena, Scoopex, Brainwave, Brainstorm, Cytax, Sanity, Crionics, Crusaders, Rebels, Alcatraz, Kefrens, Static Bytes, TRSI, Triad and many many more! The party was a little quiet concerning releases before the competitions. Only a couple of BBS-intros and similar stuff stuff were released (apart from the competitionstuff!), but I think that very many games was circulating there. The graphicscompetition was the first one to take place. A lot of pictures were shown, and many were really great, and it was hard to decide which one should be the winner, but finally it was pronounced... 1. Iridon of Shining (Maximum Overscan) 2. Cougar of Sanity (Dog) 3. R.W.O. of Kefrens (Hardcoremonster) This decision wasn't bad at all. Next on was the musiccompetition which was very badly organized. I think that 80 pieces of music was delivered to the staff who chose 32 pieces I think which was played on the big stereo. This was actually the big problem. When the music was played you couldn't hear a thing. The backgroundnoise of 600 monitors playing a different tune simply was too much for the big rack, and I found it very hard to pick the three best tunes because in my case you could only vote for the ones whose names you had heard between the tunes. This wasn't very good, and I chose not to vote becuse it wouldn't be fair. Anyway, a lot of people DID vote, and the result was as follow... 1. Tip and Mantronix of Phenomena (Overload) 2. Static of Rebels (Hardcore) 3. Nightlight (Backtracking) Listening to these tunes afterwards, I guess that the disicion wasn't so bad here either (I guess that all freaks who showed up, have a good taste! - but ofcourse I have nothing to compare the three tune with, because I never heard more that a couple of notes from each song!) The final, and most awaited competition was ofcourse the democompetition that took place saturday morning. Many groups participated, like Rebels, Kefrens, Silents&Crionics, Aero, Upfront, Brainstorm, Anarchy, Dual Crew, Razor 1911 and many more. There was many nice and new effetcts in a lot of cool demos, but unfortunately there was also a lot of fake crapdemos (U.L.I. and some more) containing a bunch of realtime bugs! There was no doubt on how the result would be. Everyone knew which three demos would win, but what would the lineup look like! Well, it got to look like this... 1. Odyssey by Alcatraz (Taking up 5 disks) 2. Hardwired by Silents and Crionics (Taking up 2 disks) 3. Voyage by Razor (Taking up 1 disk) 4. ? by Horizon 5. 3D demo by Anarchy (Sunjohn) All in all I think that these results from the competitions was generally fair enough, but for the democompo there was very hard competition on who would win. The demos could be parted in two categories. One where all the serious demos were in, and one where all the funny demos were in like The Julekalendtro, U.L.I. a.s.o. Now to something else. The food! In the invitation it said that there would be a cafeteria open 24 hrs/day, but all there was between 7 pm and 7 am was a little shop in the most far away corner where they sold sodas for Dkr. 10! If you were a little bright, you visited a local supermarket where they sold 1l soda for Dkr. 10. But generally the service here was OK too! The powersupply during the party worked very good, but there was one powercut which proved fatal to us anyway. If I had to point out the best thing about the party, it was when they announced that they would show the latest Kyd/Balle production on the big screen. It turned out to be Global Trash II - a video animation where Jesper Kyd and Mikael Balle of Silents showed their superiority once again! The worst thing I guess was the prices in the shop between 7 pm and 7 am - way to expensive. My conclusion must be though, that The Party 1991 was one of the best parties ever held, and it will be difficult to repeat such a party again. Nice going Anarchy, Crystal and Silents! ³Photon/Vixen.
