Interview with Boo
 1Gangsta & Boo
   $Interview with Boo of Talent
   !arranged by #Gangsta ! of $Scoopex
  !
Hello and welcome to this interview with Ulf Dahl, better known as #Boo !/ $Talent !. A rather unknown athlete from a cold part of Europe, Norway. So, who is this guy? Let us better introduce himself. It's finally your turn now, Ulf... Give us a quick review of your scene career, and your actual situation, please.
  !
"Boo !: So it's my turn now, eh? After being the interviewer myself, I finally get the lightspot put on me! A new point of view and very exciting I think. Well, I am currently 19 years of age and attends Norwegian School of Management. I joined the scene back in 1988, but I suppose I have always belonged among the group of anonymous sceners...In Talent I am mainly graphician, but I do also compose music when I get tired of drawing which happens very often! ("Too often!", the other Talentists claim...) Besides, I do also try to organize the trolls which is not always an easy task, I can tell! I have been a member of $Talent ! since 1992, and some of you might remember me better as #Mace !, but I changed it to Boo in early 1994. I have drawn for several productions as i.e. " "Panta Rhei !", " "QED 2 !", " "Talentiaden !", " "Showtime !" and the " "42 !" project, which by the way is put on ice. My scene career before 1992 is not that interesting. Believe me!
  " !
"Gangsta !: Well, it sounded interesting indeed. But now for something completely different. You have told me recently that you are now working on a game called " "Xenocide !" for a software company. Could you please tell us something about the game itself and your involvement into that project? And will this game be available on our beloved machine and where else?
  " !
"Boo !: This is yet another of those shoot-em-ups, but one can never get enough of them! Especially in these texturemapped days of Playstation, they have really become something different, and our main aim is ofcourse to make the best one! A quick look in the script - Future, Spaceships, Aliens, Infiltration, Resque you know... But there will ofcourse be some new effects never seen before. Just wait and see! I am working as a freelancer for a game team called " "Monoceros Developments !". In this project I work together with great personalities as #Michael ! (musician), #Anthony ! (musician), #Credo/Anathema !(graphician), and #SuperWonko !/ex. $BDZ ! (coder). Right now, me and my friend Jussi Lof are drawing our butt off on some high detailed backgrounds for the first level. He is drawing the "skeleton" and I clean it all up (smoothing, dithering etc.) And we can promise you some incredible stunning spaceship animations! A playable demo will be out soon I hope. Hopefully so spiced that you are ready for even more!
" !We hope to convince "Manyk ! (limited company), and get the contracts. (The same company who released " "Fears !" from $Bomb Software !.) We will also try to convince Sony to make a version for the Playstation PSX! But ofcourse, it WILL be released on the Amiga (the not-so-great market) and PC.
  !
"Gangsta !: Aha. And how much do you expect to get for your work in this entire game project?
  " !
"Boo !: He, he! As I have been told, we get 50% shared on each, per sales, but currently I don't know how much this is, but if the game becomes a success, this can easily be a lot of money. Especially if we get a deal with Sony! If I told you how much I get then, you would probably fall of your chair... So, it is up to you out there to go and buy it when it's released!
  " !
"Gangsta !: Are you planning to work on even more professional game projects in future?
  " !
"Boo !: Without any doubt! I have a great team, and we communicate very well! But maybe I will make music for the next project, who knows? It's much easier, and not so time taking.
  " !
"Gangsta !: What do you think in general about the scene nowadays and in the nearest future on the Amiga? I know that you recently have started composing modules on PC and also founded a PC division of $Talent ! - are you finally leaving our community, too?
  " !
"Boo !: Funny that you asked me about this, because I am actually writing an article based on this right now (for a certain "competitor ! of " #Seenpoint !"). Personally, I also joined the PC scene because I needed something new and undiscovered. And some extra channels for my music wouldn't hurt either. I think that the Amiga scene is dying slowly, but I have seen a lot of new group names popping up. There are far too few productions released nowadays compared to the past. It might be that I have almost stopped all of my mail trading, and therefore I don't get that much scene productions. We get older, and some groups die, new groups are being born. It's normal! But the death of "Commodore ! has affected some of the sceners. They loose faith - and leave for another certain scene... So far, I enjoy being active on both scenes!
  " !
"Gangsta !: So, when I take a brief look on your memberlist I notice that you mostly have musicians in $Talent !, for instance: #Jukebox !, #Brainbug !, #Don Cato !, #El Loco ! and #Sundance Kid ! and, yeah, also yourself. Isn't there a big competition between all you composers in one group? And what kind of productions can you promise the dear reader?
  " !
"Boo !: Yes, there is competition! As you perhaps didn't know, we have recently got another great musician in the group (the PC division) called #Chromag !! And this doesn't make it any easier... My music won't be released in $Talent ! productions, since we already have got so many great musicians. The problem is to get their work released. Especially these days, when we barely have any active coders at all. Fortunately we get help from outside, making co-productions. And be aware - a big musicdisk together with $Banal Projects ! will be out in the nearest future. The programming will be done by #Epidemic !, graphical design by #Prayer ! and Boo, musical performance by #Ukulele !, #Don-Cato !, #Andy ! and #Brainbug !! We haven't decided the name of it yet, but titles as " "We Made A ! "Musicdisk! !", " "Carpe Diem !" and " "Dreamscape !" have been mentioned...
" !The other Amiga production is almost around the corner in any minute. It is a slideshow from our fantastic Croatian graphician called #Blue ! #Deville !. The slide is ironically entitled " "I Want To Kill Blue Deville! !" and features mostly non-AGA pictures. The programming will be done by #Rayon !/ $Mellow ! (thanks mate!), additional graphics by #Boo !, musical performance by #Jukebox ! and #Don-Cato !. And as you can see - I try to variate musicians!
  !
"Gangsta !: I heard that #Pride !/ $Stellar ! has joined $Talent ! on PC. What do you think about his change from Amiga to PC and what is his precise function on the PC now? We all do know him as a swapper - is this still his preferable hobby?
  " !
"Boo !: Yes, Palle has eventually found peace in his soul. He is now resting at the $Talent ! Institute after 9 great years of Amiga service! I think that he like his new scene very much, although it is not as big as the Amiga one, but he needed something new! After nine years of swapping, who wouldn't get tired? But ofcourse, he misses the Amiga a lot, and especially his friends! No, he is not a swapper on the PC. It's almost impossible swapping disks there. He is now a modemtrader and 3d modeller! Actually, he is attending a 3d modelling school! I bet many of you didn't know that he is an old graphician, too!
" !And as I told you previously, another great personality has joined us on the PC scene. Namely, #Chromag !! He hasn't left the Amiga scene, though, and he is still a member of $Polka Brothers !!
  !
"Gangsta !: We all know you as a skilled musician but in fact you are also a very talented graphician, right? So, with what function would you introduce yourself to someone else? Musician or graphician? And how come?
  " !
"Boo !: You all know me as a skilled musician?! Hrmf! Then I should consider releasing some graphics here.. No, seriously I am mainly graphician. (Believe it or not!) Beside the game, I am also drawing on a compo-picture for The Gathering '96. I will also compete in the 4 channel and multichannel competition, so let's wait and see how things turn out, shall we? I have also drawn for $Anathema's ! coming productions: " "Chip Attack II !" and " "Deadlock !" (diskmag). Probably out when you read this interview!
  " !
"Gangsta !: Of course I have to ask you the one and only question every interviewer has to ask a graphician. What is your opinion about copying and using scanners?
  " !
"Boo !: A certain winning picture reminded a bit of scanned. But the graphician is so skilled that he hides it well! Especially by giving the picture a touch of cartoon. Drawing dragons on breasts, lips and nails that look like plastic, perfectly drawn hair. Yes, you probably know that I am talking about #Danny !'s winner picture. But I think that #Danny ! has already showed that he is one of the best, and he certainly doesn't need to scan, but it saves him from a lot of work. Ofcourse he could have drawn it equally good without using a scanner, but it would perhaps have ended up a bit different. I don't know for sure, so... But if the graphician has already showed that he manages all techniques, I suppose it's not so dangerous that he could scan and fix? But if an unknown graphician wants to reach the charts in a cheap way, I am strictly against scanning! But who can judge? The AGA chipset makes it easier for newcommers... When it comes to copying, I think that it is up to each graphician. There are many graphicians out there who don't have inspiration but have all techniques they need for drawing great pictures, and instead they pick out motives from roleplaying books, magazines, whatever. I don't think that is wrong. Personally, I think that you should try to keep on your own style, and if you succeed, you're a true graphician. If you fail, there's probably something wrong with your style (it may be your motives, colours, smoothing, dithering, whatever...), or you're far too close to another famous personality. If you for instance copy #Ra !'s style, I bet the voters wouldn't enjoy it very much, unless you draw equally good and have better motives which could be very hard to match! #Ra ! hasn't invented the style himself. We could ofcourse recognize his style in the real life painters, but believe me - there are still a lot of opportunities within graphics! Copy - try not to!
  " !
"Gangsta !: Okay, enough of these surely interesting subjects. Would you please tell us now your favourite musician, graphician, demo group and general production on the Amiga?
