#2 SATURNE PARTY 2 - REPORT - #1
by ACBS of Ram Jam
Hawdy Ladies and gentlemen, ACBS on
yar screen to talk about da Saturne
Party 2 held in Paris from 22 to 24
April 1994! First of all I'd like to
let all of you know that Paris is the
best city all around da globe. You'd
ask me why ? Just go there and you'll
see! O.K. In a normal Evening of
April me, Executor , Deus and my wife
Sonia took an international Express
train from Genoa straight to Paris.
After a non-sleeping night we reached
the Eiffel Tower, and then by a
strange train (I mean... Local French
trains are really shit.....) we
reached Chelles, a little town 20 km
east of Paris... To reach the Party
place was quite easy Pratically all
around the city there were arrows
showing the exact direction! Anyway
reached the party we discovered that
already Friday morning lots of people
filled the giant room arranged for the
Saturne. The most interesting things
were the big (I can say Giant) screen
and the kind of computers.... I
pratically saw only 1200 and 4000...
500 is Dead! eheheheh Well, we met a
lot of people (720 men payed to enter,
for women was free, and we saw about
50-60 females... not so bad
overall....), we met expecially some
swapping friends, but the strangest
thing was to find the incredible,
abnormal, mad editor of ABNORMALIA.
Yeah, Macno was in Paris for a strange
study between Milan and Paris
universities, so he decided to make a
little trip and met sum people......
Well, There were present almost all
French Groups, but only few
foreigners. Us from Italy, Macno even
from Italy, Darkness from Spain,
Crhiseis from Belgium, Some Vision
german Members , Sting of Alcatraz
from Germany, Mr. King of Scoopex
even from Germany and some Movement
members, also if I think they were
almost all French guys... dunno!
French groups were almost the
following : SATURNE Naturally (Hi to
Heinz, Vodka and all the others great
SATURNES), COMPLEX (Gengis, Clawz,
Eloy and others) MELON DEZIGN (Shmoovy
Shmoov, Mack, Audiomonster etc..),
PARADOX (Monty),DREAMDEALERS
(Napoleon, Sun, Anthony
etc..),MOVEMENT (Nam, Suny etc..),
SCOOPEX (Chris, Dr. Feelgood, Made,
Youri etc..),SANITY (Ra), IVORY, NEW
GENERATION CREW (NGC), INTENSE,
HEMOROIDS, OXYGENE, IRIS, DELIGHT,
MODELS, NOVA, LES SHADOCK, HERETIA,
PHANTOM, SPASM, ISCH CREW, AGOA,
MENTASM, EREMATION, ARKHAM, ARTCORE
and Many others. Some funny compos
took place like a THROW a FLOPPY DISK
Competition, The guy who throwed a
Floppy farest won! Bah... ehhehe..
and then the usuals game and Ping Pong
compos (BTW Macno arrived 2nd.. WOW!)
The first REAL competition was the
Music competition. I expected really
some better modules... I didn't like
anything.. strange really. I think
the half of the modules around
deserved to win, because there was not
one cool module.. all average
products. The second competition was
the Gfx Compo. And it was really
another thing. WOW.. 80 pics, one
better than the other, showed up on
the big screen using SCALA to play the
pics... incredible.. I think at
least 40 pics were really stunning and
wonderful, Anyway the MACK & WALT pic
was really cool, but I think they won
only beacuse they were Melon Members..
The average was so high that it was
really difficult to choose the best
one. All the compos started with
about one hour of delay respect to the
program, So the Intro compos which
should have started around 10 P.M.
Started at Midnight. Nothing Special
anyway everything of an average level,
with no stunning effects and nothing
more than some normal intros. Also
the Paradox one was without any cool
effect, Yes, it was well drawn, well
designed and a cool music, but no
code. So, we reached finally the demo
compo.. or at least we thought so!
In fact when the speaker introduced
the Demo Compo some demos showed on
the giant screen, but they were done
with the SYLICON GRAPHICS!!!!!! Some
took from the LAINMOVERMAN, some
others I never saw before. Really
stunning... but people was getting
tired. The real competition started
at 2.30 a.m. And there were 32 Demos
to watch ! So it started with two
useless stupid productions made by
some independent children, it
continued with 3 or 4 stupid things
almost by Melon Dezign and then
finally started the Demo Compo The
first demo showed was The MOVEMENT
one. and it was 3.30 a.m. At the
4.30 all the demos were shown, but
almost 150-200 people got away or falt
asleep before the end. Another
strange thing was the 1200 used to
play the demos. 3 demos crashed
becuase of read/write errors, but
those disks were all tested.....
maybe it was the hot developed by the
projector for the megascreen....
Well, The awards followed on Sunday at
1 p.m. and the prices were really
cool... about 750 US$ to the 3rd
demo, 1.300 to the 2nd and 2.000 to
the winner... Not so bad... the
whole prize money was of 36.000 FF,
about 7.000 US$... The sleeping room
was simply a gymnasium. We slept only
a few hours, anyway it was quite
comfortable. What can I say more ? A
Pizza dealer was just outside the
party room, but I tried it... It was
a French Pizza... I mean all of you
poor strangers... YOU HAVE TO CAME TO
ITALY TO EAT A PIZZA... otherwise you
won't know what a pizza is..... Also
a little Bar was arranged inside the
party place with cheap prices and cool
(and good) stuff to eat and to drink.
To smoke was forbidden, but there was
a garden inside the building, in which
almost everyone spent some time
smoking cigarettes (and not only
cigarettes...) Overall the people was
quite Lame, I mean to much children
busy to play games or stun theyrselves
watching State of the art..... anyway
also some cool dudes where present
having fun and meeting other people.
I can say SATURNE organized a really
cool party, I'm really looking forward
for theyr 3rd party, hoping some more
foreigners should come (and hoping
that the speaker will talk in English
next time.... I don't know French and
it was really hard to understand
everything!) Well, that's all, my best
compliments to all the dudes which
worked to organize it.. So .. See ya
all next time!

Look in the Demo of the Month section
for this one.
#2ARTIFICIAL PARADISE by NEW GENERATION
CREW
#1
Strange. I really don't know how they
should arrived second. Maybe there
were a lot of NGC members and they
voted for themselves... The demo is
only a Preview (not finished yet) and
the best effect is a really stunning
animation at the beginning, but only
an animation anyway !!! The demo
starts with a really incredible pic
called Joker by Yolan which arrived
Second in the GFX competition and then
follows with that animation. It seems
texture mapping, but it's a fake.
Then it follows with some effects cool
indeed, but no endpart. I'm really
looking forward for the finished
version just to look at.
#2CUZCO by OXYGENE #1
This new group came from the ATARI
FALCON and they did really a cool
DEMO. An incredible Ham Lightsourced
Texture Mapped Cube is for sure the
best effect in this demo and maybe in
the whole democompo. Also a cool
Phong vector and some zoomers all
together with a good graphics. A good
production as it's the first on Amiga
for this french group. The only thing
was the Music. It should have been
done better.
#2IT CAN'T BE DONE by RAM JAM #1
I can't review our demo. Just ask a
copy to a RAMJAM Member and take your
opinion. My compliments to EXECUTOR.
In 10 effects showed in this demo
everything is new. Never seen before
any routine.....
#2MINA OMISTAN by MOVEMENT #1
A cool Music Video. In fact this is
not a demo. I mean only animations of
scanned pics and a cool music. It's
worth to be seen, but nothing more. I
expected a better production from this
famous group.
#2SOHO by NOVA #1
A good demo overall, but the effects
are old and the (cool) raytraced
animation at the beginning it's too
boring. 3 disks for 3 effects.... I
know the design is important and the
graphics too... but this is too much!
#2THE BREATH OF THE MUSE by CHRYSEIS #1
A good demo for this group. They came
from Belgium and they made really an
hard job. The design is simply
wonderful, cool graphics , cool
effects. The matter is that this demo
is too normal. Anyway one of the best
at this demo competition. I think
they had no friends..........
Nothing special in all the other
demos. Normal Demos, normal effects,
and some stupid ideas (like the Melon
one.... How can people vote for theyr
coders ?)

#2 64K INTROS REVIEWS #1
#2COBALT by PARADOX #1
A cool Intro, with cool graphics and
cool design, but without stunning
code. An Average production which won
because the rest wasn't of high
quality. The music was cool, and the
hardest thing should have been placing
all the Gfx and Sfx in only 64 Kb.
Not so bad anyway.
#2WHERE IS MY CONSCIENCE by MELON DEZIGN#1
Really cool design as always for the
Melons. Incredible graphics and cool
sound, but no code at all. Some
animations were the hardest thing.....
I really don't know how it arrived
second. Maybe was the Melon name.
#2INTRO 64K by LES SHADOCK #1
For sure the best for the code. A
cool Texture Mapping world inside a
room. Only one effect, but really
cool. The Graphics and the design
anyway wasn't of high standard.
Anyway a cool production from this
unknown crew.
#2WELCOME TO... by SCOOPEX #1
A cool Intro, for me the best one. A
texture Mapping world, a cool Zoomer,
a nice end part dot effect and cool
sound. The matter was the graphics..
they wasn't so cool as the code. A
strange thing is that the logos in
this Intro are of HELLOWEEN.. only in
the endpart scroller is showed that
HELLOWEEN members joined SCOOPEX.
They hadn't the time to fix it 'coz of
troubles with theyr ASMONE...
#2DISNEY by PHANTOM #1
Some Walt Disney's characters really
well drawn in an useless intro. 2
years old routines etc. etc. Nothing
special.
#2SPACE PIG by NEW GENERATION CREW #1
Some cool pics and some cool effects,
but nothing special. The routines
were old and already known. A good
music anyway.
