 [SC1S][SF3S]Interview with
 [SK2S][SF6S]
DREAMER/F.C.I.
 [SC0S][SF3S][SK1S]
This time you can read an interview with a musician from group Flying Cows Inc. - with DREAMER. He admits this is his first interview. I was going to send him questions, which he would answer and send this back to me. That I settled with him on the CParty. But as it is in life plans were changed. We were returning together on the train from Starachowice, and that interview was done during this travel from Warszawa to Konin.
 [SF0S][SK2S]
JUST TO GET WARM - SOME INFORMATION ABOUT YOURSELF.
[SK1S]
I'm 16 years old, now I'm in 1st class L.O. and 3rd class secondary music school (next year I will celebrate 10 years in this school!), hobby - everybody knows.
[SK2S]
MUSIC AND AMIGA?
[SK1S]
That's right.
[SK2S]
WHAT CONFIGURATON HAVE YOU GOT? GEEE, I MEAN WHAT CONFIGURATION YOUR COMPUTER HAS?
[SK1S]
I have an A500 with 1MB chip, sampler, a 3,5" disk drive, and a colour monitor.
[SK2S]
IS F.C.I. THE FIRST GROUP IN WHICH YOU ARE?
[SK1S]
Yes. The first until now.
[SK2S]
HOW DOES YOUR COOPERATION WITH THE REST OF THE GROUP LOOK LIKE?
[SK1S]
I have contact only with one member - with Plexa. I send him my modules but I even don't know all the members of F.C.I.
[SK2S]
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN THE GROUP?
[SK1S]
Hmmm... Maybe one and half of year.
[SK2S]
NOW MAYBE WE WILL TALK ABOUT HOW YOU CREATE MUSIC. SAY HOW LONG IT TAKES YOU TO MAKE ONE MODULE - WELL, AVERAGE TIME.
[SK1S]
You know, when I make a module I listen intently to it until I'm bored. I prefer to work longer in order that noone could criticise my work. For example I make one module during all saturday, next day morning I finish it up. But usually it takes more time, because sometimes I haven't much time.
[SK2S]
DO YOU BORROW SOMEBODY'S SAMPLES?
[SK1S]
As everybody can notice - yes I borrow samples. I'm sampling only about 10% of saples by myself. In my home I don't have any samples, I'have only disks with various modules. If I need any samples I know perfectly in which module I should search for it. I'm considerably limited in ripping. Now about my samples, many people think that my samples are of poor quality. For me good quality of my samples is very important and I chose them very carefully. Maybe because I make them louder someone may think they aren't good quality.
[SK2S]
THEN WHY DO YOU DO THEM LOUDER?
[SK1S]
(laugh) It comes from the fact that somebody told me that my modules are too quiet and because of that he doesn't like them. Since that time I have made them louder. But seriously I have a habit that I've 30 samples for example, and when I think that one of them is too quiet I make it louder. Then other sample seems too quiet and I make it louder too, instead of silence all of the others. In this way for 30 samples I louder few and maybe that is why their quality makes doubts. But I want change my habits and already I can promise that my next modules will be OK.
[SK2S]
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU PREFER? I MEAN: WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE TO LISTEN THE BEST AND WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE TO MAKE THE BEST?
[SK1S]
I listen to all kinds of music. And the same with making modules. I'm a firm opponent that techno or serious music is shit. I liste to all kinds of music, it only depends on my mood. I can listen to Kreator endlessly. I've Kreator's tape in one of my tape decks and for one year I take it out only to change sides. I also like very hard german techno, serious music, or contemporary music (Killar). I don't like monotonous modules, I think monotony in music is the worst thing.
[SK2S]
SO PROBABLY BECAUSE OF THAT YOU SO OFTEN UNEXPECTEDLY CHANGE RHYTHM IN YOUR MODULES.
[SK1S]
That is right. Preferably I make modules which appeal only to some people. The best instance is BLACK SACRIFICE 2 or BLACK QUEEN. Also I never compose two modules with similiar rhythm one after another. For instance I make a module Light&Sound, techno, funn, metal. I admit that I sometimes make a module only for the public, to conquer popularity. For instance BETRAYER is made for it, I gave it to compo in Starachowice, but it did not pass - I was sure that this module would not be abandoned, but reality was different.
[SK2S]
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ABOUT YOUR CYCLE LIGHT&SOUND? WHERE IS THAT IDEA FROM?
[SK1S]
I haven't too many samples to which modules from this cycle are simillar. Atmosphere of all cycles was intended, I call these modules "gloomy modules". But as I know cycle LIGHT&SOUND was met with enthusiasm. Those few modules that I write are simply contemporary music.
[SK2S]
ARE YOU GOING TO CONTINUE THIS CYCLE?
[SK1S]
I have already made six modules from this cycle, I'm curently making the next one. I'm searching for a coder who will code a music disk with my music.. Plexa said that he will not code this disk. That will be the music disc with LIGHT&SOUND modules - from second to six. I don't like first one and the last is not still finished.
[SK2S]
WHERE DID YOU IDEA FOR "KILL YOUR MOTHER & FATHER" COME FROM?
[SK1S]
Did you listen to it?!
[SK2S]
OF COURSE!!! WHEN I SHOWED IT TO MY MOTHER SHE LAUGHED!
[SK1S]
This module is a conversion. Of course without text. But I really do not know how you got this module!
[SK2S]
LET'S TALK ABOUT CPARTY. I'M INTERESTED WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THE DEMO WHICH YOUR GROUP HAS SHOWN ON DEMO COMPO. I'M THINKING ABOUT THIS "HARD" DEMO WHICH CAUSED SOME PEOPLE.
[SK1S]
Hmmm... At the beginning this demo was called ANTYDOCENT 2, but later we called it SED RECTOR. It was made by Plexa, so we expected something funny.
[SK2S]
DID YOU ALSO WORK ON THIS PRODUCTION?
[SK1S]
I only sent to Pleksa one picture that was shown on the last part of the demo (Thanx, NORBY!) it is all that I have done in this demo.
[SK2S]
WHAT DO YOU THINK? HOW WILL THE DEMO BE ESTIMATED BY THE PEOPLE?
[SK1S]
I think that people want something different on the demo compo, they don'don't want to estimate only, they want also to have some fun. Because of that when sometimes somebody shows a demo like this nobody should be angry. But in competition this demo doesn't count.
[SK2S]
WHAT WAS YOUR REACTION TO THIS DEMO?
[SK1S]
I laughed some. And when I found the hidden part I looked at this maybe five times nonstop.
[SK2S]
HOW DO YOU ESTIMATE CPARTY IN STARACHOWICE?
[SK1S]
CParty was made as every party is, so rather I can't say anything bad. But in Poznan I felt bether. Maybe because I won there I felt better.
[SK2S]
WHAT WILL YOU SAY ABOUT MODULES QUALITY ON MUSIC COMPO?
[SK1S]
With 15 modules I enjoyed only three: 9 - by SNOOPY, 15 - by SCORPIK and maybe 8 - I don't know who made it. Unfortunately I must say that most of the modules are not of good quality (maybe not at all). [SK2S]
DO YOU THINK THAT SELECTION BEFORE COMPETITION IS NEEDED?
[SK1S]
If you are talking about a compo - yes selection is needed. But it depends how it should be done. The first is who should make the selection. Best if he is a musician but he can't be intrested in the results, he must be objective and impartial. Of course he can't take complicity in a compo. If there are no musicans like this then selection should be done by graphicans or swappers. And one more thing - people shouldn't take part in selection if they don't like one type of music for example techno. Secondly think how the selekcion should look like. Poor mods should be thrown away but it shouldn't be that we must choose 15 mods. If there are more good modules then quantity shoulb be adapted to their amount. What about selection of graphics that right at the begining should be throw all skans and plagiarism.
[SK2S]
FINALLY GIVE US YOUR TYPES. CODER?
